Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the hand acupressure and lumbar strengthening exercise on young adult women with back pain. Methods: The study used a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subjects consisted of 37 female young adults (19 persons in the experimental group and 18 persons in the control group). The hand acupressure and strengthening exercise for lower back were developed by the investigator and a hand acupressure expert. The experimental group was exposed to this program 5 days a week for 4 weeks. The visual analog scale, back muscle strength, flexibility, and quality of life were used as measurement instruments. The data were analyzed with frequency, t-test, and repeated measures ANOVA using SPSS 18.0. Results: In this study, the hand acupressure and strengthening exercise showed siginificant effects on the back muscle strength, flexibility, and quality of life in the experimental group compared to the control group. However, back pain score was not significantly decreased after the program. Conclusion: The study suggests that this program can be applied for the women with low back pain in order to enhance the back muscle strength, flexibility, and quality of life.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of hand acupressure in relieving constipation among patients with paraplegia. Methods: Data were collected from a total of 52 participants with paraplegia from a spinal cord injury. Data were analyzed by chi-square test and t-test using SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: The numbers of bowel movements per week increased in the experimental group who have received hand acupressure increased as compared with the control. Satisfaction with defecation of the experimental group improved as compared with the control. The level of constipation in the experimental group decreased compared to the control. Conclusion: We found that hand acupressure is effective in relieving constipation among patients with paraplegia from a spinal cord injury.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of Korean hand acupressure on pain and abdominal bloating of patients receiving laparoscopic surgery. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental design using a nonequivalent control group pre-post test. The experimental group and the control group were 39 patients each who were hospitalized at gynecology ward of a hospital located in Gyeonggi-do. The experimental group received Korean hand acupressure therapy on the meridian point: A5, A6, H3, H7, I38 for 48 hours immediately after the surgery. Pain and abdominal bloating were measured at 5 times. Data were analyzed using SPSS/Win 18.0. Results: The experimental group showed lower pain score than the control group (p<.001). While there was no significant difference in abdominal bloating (p=.528), the time effect was significantly different (p<.001). Conclusion: The findings indicate that Korean hand acupressure reduces pain and abdominal bloating of laparoscopic surgery patients.
Purpose: This study was to identify the effects of the hand acupressure therapy on sleep quality and mood state of adults having insomnia. Methods: The study was a one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects for this study were 15 insomniac adults. All the subjects were assessed for their sleep quality and mood state using PSQI(Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) and POMS(Profile of Mood States). The pellet stimulating hand acupressure therapy was applied using New Seoam Press Pellets 1 Ho for 4 weeks. Data were analyzed by the SPSS 12.0 version program with descriptive statistics and wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: The mean total score of PSQI was 6.67 and the POMS was 6.68. There were significant decreases in subject's total PSQI score(p=.000) and in total POMS score(p=.008) after the therapy. Conclusion: These results suggest that pellet stimulating hand acupressure therapy is effective for sleep quality and mood state of adults having insomnia.
This research is to figure out the influence of hand holding and Nea-Guan acupressure to anxiety and pain that local anesthesia patients feel in out patient operation room. Non equivalent control group pretest-posttest time series design was adopted and the data had been collected from Jul. to Oct. 2013. Total 78 local anesthesia patients of out patient operation room in the H Hospital were allotted by control group, experimental group 1( hand holding) and experimental group 2(Nea-Guan acupressure) which consisted of 26 patients each. Hand holding and Nea-Guan acupressure in this research was validated to relieve the anxiety and the pain of the local anesthesia patients in operation and can be adopted as an efficacious nursing interventions.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of Hand Acupressure Therapy on lower back pain, hip joint range of motion, and depression in postpartum women. Methods: Data was collected from March 21 to May 1, 2022 from 40 postpartum women. 𝛘2-test, independent t-test, repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Scheffe's test were performed using SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: Compared with the control group, the lower back pain score of the experimental group that performed Hand Acupressure therapy was lower, and the angle of joint range of motion was increased. Postpartum depression scores were also shown to decrease, and all of these results were statistically significant. Conclusions: Based on this study, it was confirmed that Hand Acupressure therapy can be used as an effective non-invasive intervention for back pain, joint range of motion, and postpartum depression, and suggested the implications and direction of further research.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of hand acupressure in relieving shoulder pain among male manufacturing workers. Methods: A nonequivalent control group was employed using a nonsynchronized design. Data were collected from two manufacturing plants located in metropolitan area U. The data were analyzed with a ${\chi}^2$-test and an independent t-test to perform a homogeneity test, and with repeated ANOVA measures to perform an hypothesis test using the SPSS 21.0 program. Results: Hypothesis 1 that "the experimental group provided with hand moxibustion would score lower for low shoulder pain than the control group" was supported (F=306.05, p<.001). Hypothesis 2, that "the experimental group provided with hand moxibustion would have a wider range of motion than the control group" was also supported with increased flexion(F=7.73, p<.001), extension(F=7.89, p=.001), abduction(F=21.23, p<.001), and horizontal abduction(F=20.89, p=.028). Hypothesis 3, that "the experimental group provided with hand moxibustion would score lower for quality of sleep than the control group" was not supported (F=56.10, p=.091). Conclusions: Hand moxibustion is effective in relieving shoulder pain for male manufacturing workers, in relieving low shoulder pain and increasing the range of motion.

Acupuncture and acupressure apply needles or pressure to anatomical points for therapeutic benefit. The over 350 mapped acupuncture points in the human body can each treat various conditions, but anatomical variations make precisely locating these acupoints difficult. We propose a computer vision technique using the real-time hand and face tracking capabilities of the MediaPipe framework to identify acupoint locations. Our model detects anatomical facial and hand landmarks, and then maps these to corresponding acupoint regions. In summary, our proposed model facilitates precise acupoint localization for self-treatment and enhances practitioners' abilities to deliver targeted acupuncture and acupressure therapies.

The aim of this study is to examine the change of Electroencephalogram (EEG) and concentration by practicing acupressure at the GB20 on normal humans. We selected 36 children and divided them into GB20 group and SP6 group. Electrode was measured in Fp1 and Fp2, and EEG was measured before and after practicing acupressure at the GB20 and SP6. Sensorimotor rhythm (SMR) increased significantly at the GB20 group (p=0.043). M-$\beta$ wave increased significantly at the GB20 group (p=0.022). H-$\beta$ wave increased significantly at the GB20 group (p=0.040). $\gamma$ wave increased significantly at the GB20 group (p=0.021). $(SMR+M-\beta)/\Theta$ ratio increased significantly at the GB20 group (p=0.023). $\beta/\Theta$ ratio increased significantly at the GB20 group (p=0.020). On the other hand, $\alpha$ and $\Theta$ wave did not have significant changes. Through this experiment, we conclude that acupressure at the GB20 on normal humans could increase the ability of concentration.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to show effectiveness of Acupuncture treatment on gastrointestinal dysfunctions after Cesarean section by analyzing randomized controlled clinical trials. Methods: We searched randomized controlled clinical trials related with acupuncture treatment on gastrointestinal dysfunctions after Cesarean section through national and overseas database and analyzed them in detail. Results: 6 articles were included according to our selection criteria and 1,084 women were involved. 3 studies used TEAS (Transcutaneous Electrical Acupoint Stimulation), 2 studies used Elastic band and 1 study used Acupressure by hand. Their results were statistically more effective than control groups. The most frequently used acupoints were Neiguan (PC6), Zusanli (ST36) followed by Sanyinjiao (SP6), Hegu (IL4). Conclusions: There was significant difference in the effectiveness of the intervention including Acupuncture treatment. Based on analysis, it could be an effective way for the treatment of gastrointestinal dysfunctions after Cesarean section in clinical practice.
