  • This study proposes a converter that makes battery charging, discharging, and zero voltage control possible. The proposed topology consists of an LLC converter and a half-bridge inverter, and all power semiconductor devices are applied Si-MOSFETs. The topology is designed with an LLC switching frequency of 100 kHz, a half-bridge inverter switching frequency of 50 kHz, and a battery voltage of 5 V. The advantages of the charging/discharging operation of the 5 V battery voltage and the zero voltage control of the battery are verified. In addition, by using a two-stage topology, the battery can be charged, discharged through current control, and discharged to zero voltage. With the proposed topology, the current can be maintained even when the battery voltage drops to zero.

  • This paper takes a half-through steel truss arch bridge as an example. A seismic analysis is conducted with nonlinear finite element method. Contrast models are established to discuss the effect of simplified method for main girder on the accuracy of the result. The influence of seismic wave direction and wave-passage on seismic behaviors are analysed as well as the superstructure and arch ring interaction which is mostly related with the supported bearings and wind resistant springs. In the end, the application of cable-sliding aseismic devices is discussed to put forward a layout principle. The main conclusions include: (1) The seismic response isn't too distinctive with the simplified method of main girder. Generally speaking, the grillage method is recommended. (2) Under seismic input from different directions, arch foot is usually the mostly dangerous section. (3) Vertical wave input and horizontal wave-passage greatly influence the seismic responses of arch ring, significantly increasing that of midspan. (4) The superstructure interaction has an obvious impact on the seismic performance. Half-through arch bridges with long spandrel columns fixed has a less response than those with short ones fixed. And a large stiffness of wind resistant spring makes the the seismic responses of arch ring larger. (5) A good isolation effectiveness for half-through arch bridge can be achieved by a reasonable arrangement of CSFABs.

  • The Wheatstone bridge is an important electrical circuit that is widely used to measure extremely small resistance changes in strain gages. The strain gages are attached to the structure or specimen whose deformation is to be detected. The Wheatstone bridge finds one of its major applications in the areas of static and dynamic strength tests for various engineering materials. In the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) system, for example, the bridge circuit is required to measure the dynamic strains of the incident and transmitted bars along which the stress wave propagates. In this article, the principles of the Wheatstone bridge circuit are in detail explained for easy reference during laboratory experiments associated with rock dynamics. Especially, the circuit arrangements of the quater, half, and full bridges are presented with their basic uses.

  • Since the switching device of current-fed bridge-type topology suffers from him-off voltage spikes associated with larger energy than that of voltage-fed topology, a high-efficiency non-dissipative snubber is considered essential. However, the complicated operation and the capricious performance according to various conditions make the design of the non-dissipative difficult. In this paper, the non-dissipative snubber employed in the current-fed half-bridge converter operating at a duty ratio above 0.5 is completely analyzed and the design considerations are discussed. Some design examples and the experimental results are provided to confirm the analysis and design presented in this paper.

  • In this paper, a secondary resonance half-bridge dc-dc converter with an inductive output filter is presented. The primary side of such a converter utilizes asymmetric pulse width modulation (APWM) to achieve zero-voltage switching (ZVS) of the switches, and clamps the voltage of the switch to the input voltage. In addition, zero current switching (ZCS) of the output diode is achieved by a half-wave rectifier circuit with a filter inductor and a resonant branch in the secondary side of the proposed converter. Thus, the switching losses and diode reverse-recovery losses are eliminated, and the performance of the converter can be improved. Furthermore, an inductive output filter exists in the converter reduce the output current ripple. The operational principle, performance analysis and design equation of this converter are given in this paper. The analysis results show that the output diode voltage stress is independent of the duty cycle, and that the voltage gain is almost linear, similar to that of the isolation Buck-type converter. Finally, a 200V~380V input, 24V/2A output experimental prototype is built to verify the theoretical analysis.

  • In this paper, we propose the battery charging device for electric bicycle using photovoltaic power. DC voltage from the solar cells is low, it needs to be step-up by the power conversion device. The power conversion device applied to this paper is phase-shift full-bridge converter. This converter steps-up from 12${\sim}$22[Vdc] to 36[Vdc] for charging the battery of electric bicycle. Phase-shift full-bridge converter(PSFB) can obtain twice as much DC voltage compared with half-bridge converter, thus it has lower current stress less than half-bridge converter. It is simulated and tested the battery charging device using photovoltaic power.

  • A new multilevel PWM inverter using a half-bridge and full-bridge cells is proposed for the use of stand-alone photovoltaic inverters. The configuration of the proposed multilevel PWM inverter is based on a prior 11-level shaped PWM inverter. Among three full-bridge cells employed in the prior inverter, one cell is substituted by a half-bridge cell. Owing to this simple alteration, the proposed inverter has three promising merits. First it increases the number of output voltage levels resulted in high quality output voltages. Second, it reduces two power switching devices by means of employing a half-bridge cell. Third, it reduces power imposed on a transformer connected with the half-bridge unit. That is to say, most power is transferred to loads via cascaded transformers connected with low switching inverters, which are used to synthesize the fundamental output voltage levels whereas the output of a transformer linked to a high switching inverter is used to improve the final output voltage waves; thus, it is desirable in the point of the improvement of the system efficiency. By comparing to the prior 11-level PWM inverter, it assesses the performance of the proposed inverter as a stand-alone photovoltaic inverter. The validity of the proposed inverter is verified by computer-aided simulations and experimental results.

  • The circuit effects due to the transformer primary side series equivalent inductance in the Zero Voltage Switching Pulse Width Modulated Half Bridge DC/DC Converter and its impact on the effective duty are analyzed. The steady state equations and the small signal model of the converter are derived incorporating the effects of the complementary control and the utilization of transformer primary side series equivalent inductance. The open plant dynamics are analyzed on the basis of the model derived. The model predictions are confirmed by experimental measurements.
