In order to investigate the relationship among physical status, eating habits and life style, this survey was carried out by questionnaire in 1996. College students(413 cases) who resided in Chuncheon answered. The results are as follows: 1) The means of height and weight were $173.9\pm{5.0cm}$, $64.5\pm{8.3kg}$64.5$\pm$8.3kg in male students and $160.9\pm{4.5cm}$, $51.1\pm{5.8kg}$ in female students. 2) Under 20 of BMI(Body Mass Index) were 23.0% of male students and 58.3% of female students. 6.7% of males and 3.0% of females were over 25 of BMI. 3) There was a significant relationship between the type of favorite snacks and gender. There was a significant difference of BMI according to the level of the frequency and the amount of drinking alcoholic beverages. 72.6% of subjects took exercise regularly. But the BMI of subjects taking regular exercise and watching the weight tended to be higher than that of subjects not doing so. 4) Most students(78.5%) skipped breakfast, which was higher in the self-boarding students in than any other. It was because of the lack of time that they skipped their meals. This study suggests that a comprehensive nutrition education program is needed for college students in self-boarding houses and dormitories to improve their eating habits about skipping meals, and especially for female students to prevent inappropriate weight control.
The purpose of this study was to investigate vocal hygiene habits and Korean Voice-Related Quality of Life (K-VRQOL) among classical singers. A total of 128 classical singers filled an online voice and K-VRQOL questionnaire, and the results were analyzed. In order to investigate the characteristics of K-VRQOL according to age groups, and the presence or absence of a history of voice problems, we conducted a two-way ANOVA. The results are as follows. Of the 128 classical singers, 28 (21.9%) with a history of voice problems said that excessive conversation, singing practice, and yelling were the causes of their voice problems. The symptoms of voice problems were fatigue, loss of range, hoarseness, and breathiness. In addition, classical singers were less likely to smoke, or to drink alcohol or caffeine. The K-VRQOL was highly correlated with all sub-domains. There was a statistically significant difference according to age groups (p<.05) and history of voice problems (p<.01). There was no correlation between age groups and history of voice problems. Voice management is important because classical singers can ruin their voice by speaking, and the risk of voice disorder is high. Voice problems affect quality of life. In future studies, it is necessary to obtain information on the subjective voice characteristics of classical singers by examining the relationship between their voice hygiene habits and VHI, SVHI, and K-VRQOL.
Objectives : This study aimed to explore the influence of food intake and oral health behaviors on dental caries in juveniles. Methods : A total of 2,129 juveniles completed a questionnaire survey to identify the presence of permanent teeth caries, behaviors relevant to oral health and food intake based on the fourth National Health and Nutrition Survey. Results : Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that higher occasions of intake of carbonated drinks significantly cased dental caries in the meanwhile oral health behavior and the number of toothbrushing was in reverse proportion to dntal caries. The risk of dental caries was higher in the group of lower frequency of toothbrushing and intake of carbonated drink. Conclusions : Carbonated drinks intake and the number of toothbrushing is closely related to dental caries. So it is very important to develop oral health education program in order to improve eating habits and toothbrushing habits in juveniles.
The purpose of this study was to develop the website-based program for individual meal planning. The program consisted of the basic information of clients, dietary habits, analysis of nutrient intakes and menu planning. The first part of the program consisted of general information such as general characteristics and anthropometric data of clients. The second part was designed to investigate the dietary habits, food intake frequency, nutrition knowledge, and drinking and smoking habits of the clients. The third part consisted of analysis of nutrient intakes including three major nutrients, calorie intake by foods and alcohol, and ratio of individual fatty acid intake. Nutrient intakes was evaluated by comparing with dietary reference intakes. In the final part, the program included the menu planning by using standard recipe. This system was also designed to insert, remove or change the food items or amount according to the user need. It is expected that the development of a meal planning system based on the internet can facilitate the professional dietary counseling, and thus help to improve the health of people.
Changes in the alcohol-soluble free amino acids during germination of a spring grain, Wanju and two winter grains, Sedohadaka and Nonsankwa No.1-6 which are differing in their degree of spring (winter) habits, were investigated by thin layer chromatography. The results obtained are as follows. 1. Throughout the germination period, 25 ninhydrin positive components; 22 amino acids including two amides and 3 unknown spots were detected. It is interesting to note that identification of histidine was confined to Wanju and Sedohadaka but Nonsankwa No.1-6, which has the lower degree of spring habit. 2. Except the quiescent seeds, the major components were generally composed of the acidic and neutral amino acids together with glutamine and asparagine. 3. Proline was contained in higher quantity except from the stage of quiescent seeds, but the outstanding difference among the varieties was not recognized. Whether this component is related to the mechanism of spring habit in barley or not is a problem to be studied more. 4. In all the varieties, most of the changes in amino acid levels during germination were usually in the same direction and of the same pattern under the temperature controlled not to be varnalized. In view of the results above, the changes in the amino acid levels seem to be more affected by the changes of growing circumstances and the subsequent metabolic activities of certain enzymes than by the characteristics of varieties themselves.
This paper proposes a smart phone authentication method based on user's behavior and habit that is an authentication method against shoulder surfing attack and brute force attack. As smart phones evolve not only storage of personal data but also a key means of financial services, the importance of personal information security in smart phones is growing. When user authentication of smart phone, pattern authentication method is simple to use and memorize, but it is prone to leak and vulnerable to attack. Using the features of the smart phone pattern method of the user, the pressure applied when touching the touch pad with the finger, the size of the area touching the finger, and the time of completing the pattern are used as feature vectors and applied to user authentication security. First, a smart phone user models and stores three parameter values as prototypes for each section of the pattern. Then, when a new authentication request is made, the feature vector of the input pattern is obtained and compared with the stored model to decide whether to approve the access to the smart phone. The experimental results confirm that the proposed technique shows a robust authentication security using subjective data of smart phone user based on habits and behaviors.
Background: Most fish undergo prey switch from juvenile to adult. It is thought that slightly different feeding habits occur among adult fishes due to growth, spawning, habitat change, and so on. Therefore, the diet of the John Dory Zeus faber (≥ 24 cm TL) was studied in the coastal waters of Korea by analysis of stomach contents, with comparison by season and size class of diet composition and prey diversity. Monthly samples were taken from February 2017 to January 2018. Results: The results showed that the John Dory was a piscivorous predator, and pisces had occupied 82.3% of IRI%. Trichiurus lepturus and Trachurus japonicus were important preys in all size classes and seasons. Diet composition differed among the size classes and seasons (Chi-square test, P < 0.05). As body size of Z. faber increased, the occurrence of benthic fish (Glyptocephalus stelleri) tended to increase. The seasonal prey composition also changed depending on the abundant species of each season. Conclusions: Z. faber is a piscivorous predator. The consumption habits of Z. faber appear to different results by their size and seasons. This study suggests that Z. faber could be considered an opportunistic predator.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the dietary habits and nutrient intakes of the elderly living in Songnam area. Responses from 318(153 men, 165 women) elderly individuals aged from 58 to 92 were analyzed. The results of this study are as follows. Regular dietary habit scores of the elderly women were worse than those of the men. Balanced dietary habit scores turned out to be the lowest among the various measured indices. The dietary assessment data showed that the energy intakes of males and females were 86.8% and 83.1% of the RDAs, respectively. The nutrients taken less than RDA on the daily basis were protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A and vitamin B$_2$. Nutrient intakes were gradually decreased as the age increased. Energy intakes of males and females from carbohydrate were 70% and 73% respectively. Vitamin A, vitamin B$_2$, and calcium were the most deficient nutrients on the basis of the intake percentage of RDA. Therefore, to improve nutritional status of the elderly, it is recommended that intakes of vitamin A, B$_2$ and calcium-rich food should be increased. Also suitable dietary guidelines and educational programs seem to be necessary for promoting health conditions of elderly people in Songnam area.
Purpose: The aim of the research was to define the effects of lifestyle habits, smartphone addiction, and mental health on irritable bowel syndrome in college students Methods: The data was collected through convenience sampling of 185 college students. To draw conclusions from the data, we used statistical analysis of independent t-test, χ2 test, Fisher's exact test, and multiple logistic regression using SPSS/WIN 24.0. Results: There were significant differences in gender, grade, major, mental health, and smartphone addiction according to the presence of irritable bowel syndrome. Variables identified as influencing factors were gender (OR=4.03, CI: 1.42~11.49) and mental health (OR=1.05, CI: 1.01~1.08). Conclusion: In order to alleviate and improve the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, it is necessary to assess and continuously manage mental health, such as stress, anxiety and depression of college students, which are the factors that could be intervened.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of obese children's life style habits in order to contribute to the prevention and management obesity. The survey group included B,D, and J elementary school children. Out of 731 children, 380 were in the obese group and 351 were in a control group following the 1985 Korea Pediatric Association Height and Weight Standard Chart. Through a self questionnaire, a description of background, exercise including play behavior, diet intake, eating behavior and, environment were obtained. The results included that children's obesity is related to parents' obesity and, girls in both control and obese groups participate less in exercise than boys. Also, aspects of the amount of diet intake and speed of eating was significantly more (p<.001) and faster (p<.05) for the obese group. Furthermore, outdoor playing time for the obese group was significantly more than the control group (p<.05). Looking at the results, it is necessary for both school and home to actively involve themselves in guidance and providing an environment that modifies life style habits to prevent childhood obesity.
