We studied the feeding habits of Sebastes thompsoni based on 421 specimens obtained in monthly collections between January and December 2005 in the coastal waters off Busan, Korea. S. thompsoni was a crustacean feeder, and consumed mainly shrimp and euphausiids. Its diet also included small quantities of amphipods, cephalopods, and fish. It showed distinct ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. Smaller individuals (14-17 cm standard length (SL)), mainly consumed euphausiids. The portion of these prey items decreased with increasing fish size, and larger individuals (>20 cm SL) consumed mainly shrimp such as Leptochela sydniensis.
Feeding habits of Pseudoblennius cottoides collected from the eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay from January 1994 to December 1994 were studied. Pseudoblennius cottoides was a carnivore which mainly consumed fishes, caridean shrimps, and amphipods. Its diets included small Quantities of tanaids, copepods, isopods, mysids, and polychaetes. It showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. Fishes were heavily selected as the body size of P. cottoides increases. Fishes and caridean shrimps were major prey organisms for all seasons.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the dietary habits and food intake by age, based on the nutrition counseling data of medical health examination. The subjects were 5,511 adults(3,139 males and 2,372 females) who took comprehensive medical test in Gyeonggi area, and they were evaluated from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007. Survey samples were divided by age groups : 30>, 30~39, 40~49, 50~59, 60~69, 70{$\leq}$ years. The subjects were composed of 57% male and 43% female. The results showed that the dietary habits of ${\geq}$50 group were relatively good. On the other hand, in 30> yrs group had more dietary habit problems, they had irregular meals and the ratio of skipping breakfast was high. And they frequently had meals out. regularity of meals, eating breakfast was higher in ${\geq}$70 yrs groups than in other groups(p<0.001). frequency of overeating was higher in 30>, 30~39${\geq}$yrs groups than in other groups(p<0.001) and speed of eating meal were fast in 50~59 yrs groups than in other groups(p<0.01). For foods with high cholesterol and fat, it was shown that the older the subject, the fewer the frequency of consumption(p<0.001). For kimchi and salty foods, food intake showed a negative relationship with age(p<0.001), whereas for fresh vegetables and high-calcium fish, it showed a positive relationship(p<0.001). All in all, it was shown that as the people get older, their dietary habits tend to get more appropriate. In conclusion nutrition education based on their dietary habit by age should be taught, so that people have a healthy dietary habit and food intake for the rest of their life.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences and the influencing factors of health habits such as smoking, drinking, and exercise on job stress among IT workers. Methods: A questionnaire was distributed to total of 300 people (30 persons per business place) at 10 IT work sites performing computer and information system tasks, and 275 data points were analyzed. The survey items were general characteristics, occupational characteristics, employment type, physical burden, amount of drinking, smoking, exercise, and job stress. Results: The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, non-regular workers showed higher smoking, exercise, and job stress than did regular workers by employment type, but exercise was not significant. Regular workers had a higher rate of drinking than non-regular workers. Second, the factors affecting alcohol drinking were gender and age, and factors affecting smoking were gender and employment type. Third, factors affecting job stress were annual income, long working hours, physical burden, and employment type. Conclusions: It is necessary to consider employment patterns in smoking, drinking, and job stress management. In addition, it is necessary to deeply analyze what affects the health behaviors and job stress of IT workers and explore ways to mitigate them.
This study was undertaken to investigate dietary status, food habits, and nutritional knowledge of university students majoring in judo (n=239) and to evaluate the effect of dietary behavior on their athletic activities. Mean daily dietary intakes (3,854.0 kcal) were similar to mean daily energy consumptions (3,975.5 kcal). Average daily intakes of most vitamins and minerals were higher than Korean Recommended Dietary Allowances except for the intake of vitamin A. Self-confidence on judo affected dietary behavior of the subjects: Subjects who had more self-confidence on judo showed more interest in good nutrition and concerned more about foods which could promote their athletic activities. Many side effects were manifested after sudden weight control for judo competition during school days. Therefore, it is suggested that good education on nutrition is necessary not only for athletic students, but also for coaches and trainers of the students. Ten weeks of education on nutrition significantly improved both food habits and nutritional knowledge of the subjects. Food habits were positively correlated with self-confidence on judo. Therefore, it is suggested that improvement of food habits through good education on nutrition would be helpful to improve athletic activities of the students.
This study investigated how acculturation varies with demographic variables and is related to dietary habits among Korean Americans. The respondents were 162 Korea Americans aged at least 18 years old residing in the Greater New York metropolitan area. The level of acculturation was measured using a modified Suinn-Lew Asian Self-Identity Acculturation(SL-ASIA) scale. Acculturation was operationally defined to be composed of 6 factors, which are language, media use, friendship, food, pride, and ethnic self-identity. Each factor in the level of acculturation was identified by how it is related to demographics and dietary habits in the method of correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regressions analyses. The reliability of the modified SL-ASIA scale was high as measured by Cronbach alpha of .92. The level of acculturation was related to place of birth, age, length of residence in the U.S., and education. The younger, the longer they had lived in the U.S., and the more they were educated, the more acculturated. Acculturation could be predictable for 52% of its variance with all demographic variables. Among the 6 factors in the level of acculturation, five of them, language, media use friendship, food, and ethnic self-identity were correlated with dietary habit changes after immigration and type of meals. All 6 acculturation factors could predict 21% of change in dietary habits. the information from this study can be used to describe usual describe usual dietary habits according to various aspects of acculturation to better understand the dynamics among acculturation, demographics, and dietary habits.
Objectives: The study was performed to examine the dietary behaviors and life stress of middle school students in the Gyeonggi area. Methods: A total of 580 middle school students (295 males, 285 females) in the Gyeonggi area participated in the study between July and August in 2011. The study was a questionnaire-based survey that included dietary habits, dietary behaviors, and life stress. Results: For dietary habits, the score for drinking milk was higher in male students than in female students, whereas the score for eating fruits was higher in female students compared to male students. There were significant differences in foods eaten and preferred under stress between male and female students. Male students showed significantly less changes in the number of meals, amount of meal intake, number of snacks, snack intake, frequency of overeating, and appetite during stress than female students. Life stress score of students largely came from academic factors, and female students showed higher stress levels in personal and surrounding environment factors than male students. Life stress score was significantly lower in students with high and moderate levels of dietary habits than in students with a low level of dietary habits. Total score for dietary habits and scores for eating adequate amounts of foods for each meal, considering a combination of food groups at each meal and eating green and orange vegetables, were significantly negatively correlated with life stress score. Life stress score was significantly negatively correlated with meal regularity and positively with the level of overeating. Conclusions: This study may provide basic information on dietary habits and life stress according to gender and the relationship between dietary behaviors and life stress of middle school students, and it suggests gender-based nutrition education programs to solve undesirable dietary habits and dietary behaviors in students with higher stress.
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between intake experience of mother's milk intake/baby food intake, present eating habits, and atopy symptoms in elementary school students in Chungnam province. More frequent intake of mother's milk was associated with less atopy symptoms. Subjects who had good attitudes for baby food in the past had less unfavorite foods. In addition, subjects that ate fruits and vegetable-baby food had better eating attitudes for a balanced diet. Unbalanced diet was associated with worse behavior characteristics. Frequency of eating breakfast affected behavioral characteristics. As this study had regional and size limitations, it is necessary to further investigate the relationship between past intake experience of mother's milk/attitude towards baby foods and present eating habits/physical growth. Based on these results, past intake experience of mother's milk/attitude towards baby foods might affect present physical growth/development and eating habits of subjects.
The purpose of this study was to develop an educational program to promote oral health habits and to analyze it's effects among elementary students. The study was a "one group, pre-test, post-test design", which included 158 3rd grade students from three elementary schools in Seoul. The effects were measured after each group had received a 40 minute program each week for three weeks. The program consisted of a lecture, 1:1 tooth brushing demonstration and practice, and viewing the oral health DVD. The students were given a questionnaire with 26 questions at the beginning and at the end of the study (6 questions about their toothbrushing habits, 5 oral health related habit questions, and 15 oral health related knowledge questions). All students received an oral-health practice pamphlet at the beginning of the program. The students who participated in the program had higher levels of oral health knowledge (t=27.23, p<.001), better toothbrushing habits (t=13.72, p<.001), and oral related habits ($X^2=34.22$, p<.001) after receiving the structured oral health educational program.
This survey was carried out to Investigate the effect of the daily average nutrient intakes, self-consciousness of nutrition knowledge and health on the nutrition knowledge and food habits between college women and their own mothers, Questionnaires were completed by 214 college women who do major in nutrition and by 173 their mothers. The college women scored significantly higher than that of their mothers In the nutrition knowledge. And their mothers scored significantly higher than that of college women in the food habits. Most of the subjects belonged to 'Fair' food habit group, which was considered to be relatively good. The correlation of the scores between nutrition knowledge and food habits of the college women and their mothers was low. The daily average nutrient Intakes of all women were higher than the recommended dietary allowance except for that of Iron. There was a significant and negative correlation between the nutrition knowledge score and daily average nutrient intakes in college women. But there was not a significant correlation in the nutrient intakes in their mothers. And also there was a significant and positive correlation between food habits score in their mothers but there was not a significant correlation score in college women. The higher the women had a self-consciousness of health, the higher their mothers had a food habit score, but they had daily average nutrient intakes were lower than their daughter's(college women), And the women that had a self-consciousness of health were healthier, daily nutrient intakes in their own mothers were higher in the food habits scores than that of the college women. The main curriculum for a good food habits is that it is important that one has a responsible nutrition education.
