The purpose of this study was to investigate walking standard time and joint powers of the lower extremities on the changes of illuminations in the elderly women. Ten older women ($70.90{\pm}3.28$ years, $154.70{\pm}3.47$ cm, $53.80{\pm}5.39$ kg) with normal vision and no gait disabilities participated in this study. All the experiments were performed on a level walkway from low to high lighting (six conditions). A 3-dimensional motion capturing system, force-plate, and EMG were used to acquire and analyze walking motion, force, and muscle activity data; the sampling frequency was 100 Hz, 1000 Hz and 1000 Hz respectively. To test the differences on walking standard time and joint powers of the lower extremities between the six lighting conditions, one-way repeated ANOVAs were evaluated. The following results were drawn: First, mean standard time was about 1.3 sec/stride, and velocities were smaller with lighting increasing except 100 Lx. Second, the joint power patterns of ankle and knee were not consistent, but only hip joint power was a greatest in 6 Lx and a smallest in 400 Lx. Third, standard times(100 Lx<300 Lx, 400 Lx) were statistically significant, and hip joint max powers (100 Lx>others) were also statistically significant. But ankle and knee joint max power were not statistically significant. These results showed that standard times from low to high lighting were not consistent, and hip joint of 100 Lx has a greatest rotational torque. We suggested that gait strategies of them as to changing illuminations were not consistent and findings may represent a lack of adaptability in the elderly women.
Purpose: This study investigated the influence of attention-demanding tasks on gait and measured differences in the temporal, spatial and kinematic characteristics between young healthy adults and elderly healthy adults. Methods: We recruited 16 healthy young adults and 15 healthy elderly adults in this study. All participants performed two cognitive tasks: a subtraction dual-task (SDT) and working memory dual-task (WMDT) during gait plus one normal gait. Using the LEGSys+ system, knee and hip-joint kinematic data during stance and swing phase and spatiotemporal parameter data were assessed in this study. Results: In the elderly adult group, attention-demanding tasks with gait showed a significant decrease in hip-joint motion during the stance phase, compared to the normal gait. Step length, stride length and stride velocity of the elderly adult group were significantly decreased in WMDT gait compared to normal gait (p<0.05). In the young adult group, kinematic data did not show any significant difference. However, stride velocity and cadence during SDT and WMDT gaits were significantly decreased compared to those of normal gait (p<0.05). Conclusion: We determined that attention-demanding tasks during gait in elderly adults can induce decreased hip-joint motion during stance phase and decreased gait speed and stride length to maintain balance and prevent risk of falling. We believe that understanding the changes during gait in older ages, particularly during attention-demanding tasks, would be helpful for intervention strategies and improved risk assessment.
Purpose: This study sought to study the effects of cross-legged sitting posture on joint motion. It also examined the correlation between the changes in the joint range of motion, musculoskeletal symptoms, and facial asymmetry. Methods: The Acumar Digital Inclinometer (Lafayette Instrument Company, USA) was used to measure the range of motion (ROM). We measured the flexion and extension of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine using a dual inclinometer, and measured the ROM of the shoulder and hip joint with a single inclinometer. The Likert scale questionnaire was used to investigate musculoskeletal symptoms and facial asymmetry. Results: The data analysis was performed using the Jamovi version 1.6.23 statistical software. After confirming the normality of the ROM with descriptive statistics, it was compared with the normal ROM through a one-sample t-test. Correlation matrix analysis was performed to confirm the association between facial asymmetry and musculoskeletal symptoms. The result of the one-sample t-test showed a significant increase in the thoracic spine extension and right and left hip external rotation (p<0.001***), while most other joints were restricted. As per the frequency analysis, facial asymmetry was found to be 81.70%. Conclusion: The independent variable, namely cross-legged sitting posture led to an increase in ROM. The study also suggests that facial asymmetry and musculoskeletal symptoms could occur. Therefore, to prevent the increase and limitation of ROM and to prevent the occurrence of facial asymmetry and musculoskeletal symptoms, it is suggested that the usual cross-legged sitting posture should be avoided.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of Hand Acupressure Therapy on lower back pain, hip joint range of motion, and depression in postpartum women. Methods: Data was collected from March 21 to May 1, 2022 from 40 postpartum women. 𝛘2-test, independent t-test, repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Scheffe's test were performed using SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: Compared with the control group, the lower back pain score of the experimental group that performed Hand Acupressure therapy was lower, and the angle of joint range of motion was increased. Postpartum depression scores were also shown to decrease, and all of these results were statistically significant. Conclusions: Based on this study, it was confirmed that Hand Acupressure therapy can be used as an effective non-invasive intervention for back pain, joint range of motion, and postpartum depression, and suggested the implications and direction of further research.
Purpose: Isolated acetabular fractures can occur as a result of a high energy impact on the hip joint. Surgery is required for most patients with an isolated acetabular fracture in order to alleviate pain, restore joint stability, and regain hip function. This study was conducted in order to examine the course of hip function in patients after surgical treatment of an isolated traumatic acetabular fracture. Materials and Methods: This prospective series of consecutive cases included patients who underwent surgery for treatment of an isolated acetabular fracture in a European level one trauma center between 2016 and 2020. Patients with relevant concomitant injuries were excluded. Scoring of hip function was performed by a trauma surgeon using the Modified Merle d'Aubigné and Postel score at six-week, 12-week, six-month, and one-year follow-up. Scores between 3-11 indicate poor, 12-14 fair, 15-17 good, and 18 excellent hip function. Results: Data on 46 patients were included. The mean score for hip function was 10 (95% confidence interval [CI] 7.09-12.91) at six-week follow-up (23 patients), 13.75 (95% CI 10.74-16.76) at 12-week follow-up (28 patients), 16 (95% CI 13.40-18.60) at six-month follow-up (25 patients), and 15.50 (95% CI 10.55-20.45) at one-year follow-up (17 patients). After one-year follow-up, the scores reflected an excellent outcome in 11 patients, good in five patients, and poor in one patient. Conclusion: This study reports on the course of hip function in patients who have undergone surgical treatment for isolated acetabular fractures. Restoration of excellent hip function takes six months.

According to development of medical science and engineering, people has made efforts to solve tile discomfort of body accident as well as the life span. Many cases that reduce pain of a hip joint or limitation of motion using Revision Total Hip Replacement are getting increased. However it has not proved which material is the most appropriate. Scientists are still studying about materials of the artificial joint. In accordance with advance of science, the materials are Betting better. Recently, when Revision Total Hip Replacement is performed, typical materials are Ti-alloys Ceramics. We have studied materials of artificial joints and analyzed which one is better for human's body.

PURPOSE: This study investigated the effect that an elastic therapeutic taping treatment given to patients with chronic ankle instability had on the vertical ground reaction force, center of pressure, and range of motion in the ankle, knee and hip joints, during a Cross-cutting movement from landing. METHODS: This study analyzed 12 able-bodied adults and 12 patients with chronic ankle instability classified by using the Cumberland tool in the motion analysis laboratory, Hanseo University. The experiment was conducted under two conditions elastic taping and no treatment. In order to analyze the difference between the groups. An independent t-test was performed at p>.01. RESULTS: Plying an elastic therapeutic taping to the patients with chronic ankle instability significantly decreased the range of joint motion in the inversion of the ankle joint, the flexion of the knee joint, and the flexion and internal rotation of the hip joint during a cross-cutting movement from landing in comparison with the able-bodied adults p<.01. This restriction in the range of motion decreased the center-of-pressure trajectory length of patients with chronic ankle instability p>.01. CONCLUSION: An elastic therapeutic taping treatment given to patients with chronic ankle instability causes ankle stability to increase during a cross-cutting movement from landing.

The propose of this study was to investigate the effects of squat exercise using a reformer on muscle strength, range of motion, and gait in hip joint replacement patients. This study was conducted on 20 patients hospitalized at a rehabilitation hospital in G City. As an intervention method, the experimental group performed squat exercises using a reformer, and the control group performed squat exercises, 7 times a week for 2 weeks. In the within-group comparison of the reformer group, there was a significant difference in hip flexion, extension, and abduction strength (p<0.05). There were significant differences within the group in the range of motion of hip extension and abduction and gait in the Reformer group (p<0.05). In comparison between groups, significant differences occurred in hip extension strength, hip extension, abduction range of motion, and gait (p<0.05).
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in gait parameters and symmetry between walking speed by using the Froude number and preferred walking speed. Method: Fifty adults (age: $21.0{\pm}1.7years$, body weight: $71.0{\pm}9.2kg$, height: $1.75{\pm}0.07m$, leg length: $0.89{\pm}0.05m$) participated in this study. Leg length-applied walking speed was calculated by using the Froude number, defined as Fr = ${\upsilon}^2$/gL, where v is the velocity, g is the gravitational acceleration, and L is the leg length. Video data were collected by using eight infrared cameras (Oqus 300, Qualysis, Sweden) and the Qualisys Track Manager software (Qualisys, Sweden), with a 200-Hz sampling frequency during two-speed walking (preferred walking speed [PS] and leg length-applied walking speed [LS]) on a treadmill (Instrumented Treadmill, Bertec, USA). The step length, stride length, support percentage, cadence, lower joint angle, range of motion (ROM), and symmetry index were then calculated by using the Matlab R2009a software. Results: Step and stride lengths were greater in LS than in PS (p < 0.05). The right single-support percentage was greater in LS than in PS (p < 0.05). The hip joint angle at heel contact and toe-off were greater in LS than in PS (p < 0.05). The hip and knee joint ROM were greater in LS than in PS (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Based on our findings, we suggest that increased walking speed had a significant effect on step length, stride length, support percentage, and lower joint ROM.
