A taxonomic study of Habenaria in Korea was carried out based on the extensive examinations of floral morphologies and distribution. As the results, we classified the genus in Korea into the following 5 species; H. linearifolia Maxim., H. cruciformis Ohwi, H. radiata Splengl., H. chejuensis Y.N. Lee & K.S. Lee and H. flagellifera Makino. H. cruciformis is recognized as a distinct species distinguished from H. linearifolia, H. sagittifera Rchb. f. and H. schindleri Schltr., and we clarified its morphological differences from the species. H. linearifolia f. integrilova Ohwi which has been seperated by shape of lateral lobe of lip was merged into f. linearifolia oin this study. Furthermore we investigated the distribution of Habenaria in Korea based on the herbarium specimens and field surveys. The result shows that H. radiata is rare in the middle part of the Korean Peninsula and H. chejuensis and H. flagellifera are restricted in Jeju Island, so the conservation on the habitats of these species is required.

Background: Climate change significantly influences the geographical distribution of plant species worldwide. Selecting indicator species allows for better-informed and more effective ecosystem management in response to climate change. The Korean Peninsula is the northernmost distribution zone of warm temperate evergreen broad-leaved (WTEB) species in Northeast Asia. Considering the ecological value of these species, we evaluated the current distribution range and future suitable habitat for 13 WTEB tree species designated as climate-sensitive biological indicator species. Results: Up-to-date and accurate WTEB species distribution maps were constructed using herbarium specimens and citizen science data from the Korea Biodiversity Observation Network. Current northern limits for several species have shifted to higher latitudes compared to previous records. For example, the northern latitude limit for Stauntonia hexaphylla is higher (37° 02' N, Deokjeokdo archipelago) than that reported previously (36° 13' N). The minimum temperature of the coldest month (Bio6) is the major factor influencing species distribution. Under future climate change scenarios, suitable habitats are predicted to expand toward higher latitudes inland and along the western coastal areas. Conclusions: Our results support the suitability of WTEB trees as significant biological indicators of species' responses to warming. The findings also suggest the need for consistent monitoring of species distribution shifts. This study provides an important baseline dataset for future monitoring and management of indicator species' responses to changing climate conditions in South Korea.

Daphne L. (Thymelaceae) comprises about 95 species distributing worldwide from N Africa, N India, SE Asia to E Asia and the coast of the Mediterranean of Europe. In Korea, five species of this genus have been described. In this study, we included four species (D. genkwa, D. pseudomezereum, D. kiusiana, D. jejudoensis) from Korea, excluding cultivated D. odora. The morphological characters through local surveys and the re-classification of the specimens collected in the Korea National Herbarium (KH) were carried out and distribution maps for each taxon were also prepared. The major characters include habit, trichomes in winter bud, leaf, and twig, phyllotaxis, inflorescence, size of calyx lobe and trichomes in the calyx tube, etc. The distribution map showed that D. genkwa is mainly distributed in the coastal area of Hwanghaenam-do, Pyeongannam-do, Jeollabuk-do and Jeollanam-do, whereas D. pseudomezereum is distributed in the limestone zone of Gangwon-do, Jeollabuk-do, and Gyeongsangbuk-do. Similarly, D. kiusiana is mostly found in Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Jeju-do. In addition, D. jejudoensis is known to be distributed in forests of Murueng, Andeok, and Seonheul-ri in Jeju-do, but recently, new habitat is discovered in the island forest areas of Jeollanam-do. However, some of these individuals showed the characteristics of D. kiusiana, thus before come to any conclusion detailed taxonomic review of D. jejudoensis and D. kiusiana is required.

This study was carried out to identify the vascular flora of Mt. Bonghwa in the Baekdudaegan Mountain range, located on the border between Namwon City and Jangsu Country in Jeollabuk Province and Hamyang Country in Gyeongsangnam Province and use them as basic data for the conservation of plant diversity and prevention of the spread of alien plants. Specimens deposited at the Herbarium of Korea National Arboretum (KH) were reexamined, and 15 field surveys were conducted from April 2020 to July 2023. The result revealed a total of 466 taxa, consisting of 97 families, 279 genera, 409 species, 16 subspecies, 32 varieties and 9 forms, Of which, eight taxa were endemic plants, and one taxon, Aconitum coreanum (H.Lév.), belonged to the vulnerable (VU) on the national red list species. Moreover, there were 57 floristic target species, including 1 taxon of grade V, 9 taxa of grade III, 14 taxa of grade II, and 33 taxa of grade I, whereas there were 24 taxa of alien plants and 1 taxon of ecosystem disturbance species. In the usefulness survey, 353 taxa were for food, 3 for textiles, 71 for medicinal use, 21 for ornamental use, 108 for pasture use, 2 for industrial use, 7 for miscellaneous use, and 11 for timber plants.
The tribe Neillieae, a small group of about 18 species in the Rosaceae, comprises three taxonomically difficult genera, Neillia, Physocarpus, and Stephanandra. The tribe, characterized by lobed leaves with persistent or deciduous stipules and ovoid, shiny seeds with copious endosperm, is strongly supported as a monophyletic group by a variety of lines of molecular evidence. Due to the high amount of morphological variation across the three genera and the species in tribe Neillieae, conflicting classification schemes and numerous species have been proposed over the past three centuries. However, no comprehensive systematic study of the group, including all species across their geographic ranges, has ever been undertaken. As part of a taxonomic revision of tribe Neillieae, a revision of Physocarpus based on the morphological examination of herbarium specimens, including types, and field observation is presented. Artificial keys, comprehensive nomenclatural treatments, descriptions, distribution maps, and lists of specimens examined are provided. Six species in Physocarpus are recognized. A lectotype is here designated for the following species: Opulaster pubescens, Opulaster ramaleyi, Spiraea opulifolia var. parvifolia, Spiraea opulifolia var. tomentella, Physocarpus michiganensis, and Physocarpus missouriensis.
The Acer wilsonii complex including A. wilsonii, A. tutcheri, and A. confertifoilum is distributed in southern China. Morphological variation was examined to delimit the species and to determine whether recognition at the specific level was warranted. Univariate and bivariate statistical methods, based on data taken from herbarium specimens, were used to examine morphological variation between and within species. This study showed that A. tutcheri differed from A. wilsonii by its rather short inflorescence, small leaf blades, and three leaf lobes with distinctive serrate leaf lobes. In contrast, there was virtually no separation of taxa with respect to the paniculate-corymbose or short paniculate inflorescence between A. confertifolium and A. tutcheri, suggesting that A. confertifolium morphologically resembled A. tutcheri and is a rather smaller form of it. Circumscription of Acer wilsonii has been quite troublesome, because the important holotype and isotype specimens contained different species under the same number and were misleading with respect to the correct application of the name. Furthermore, lobation is very weak within ser. Sinensia, but diversified inflorescences usually occur in China. A three lobed leaves species, A. wilsonii, represents the reduction in lobation without any modification of panicle inflorescences and seems to be closely related to A. sinense. However, A. tutcheri, which shows a reduction in panicle inflorescence with four petals and sepals, may not be closely related to A. sinense. Three lobed taxa may not correctly reflect the true relationship within ser. Sinensia. The designated lectotype of A. wilsonii, line drawings of representative leaves of related species, a key, and distribution maps of these taxa are presented.
This study was conducted to clarify not only the phytogeographical distribution but also species characteristics of Korean-native Anacardiaceae. 6 species of I genus were ascertained from herbarium specimens and field survey of natural population. Rhus verniciflua have been mainly cultivated in Wonju region, Kangwon-do and Hamyang region, Kyeongsangnam-do, could be cultivated in all parts of Korea, especially more in cold area. R. trichocarpa was distributed in all parts except for some far-islands of South in Korea. Petiole was especially reddish. Fruits are matured in June-July, and have stiff trichomes. R. sylvestris was widely distributed in the subtropical-temperate and temperate zone, and mainly distributed in the seashore and islands under 36$^{\circ}$ in Korea. Leaflets and petiole was reddish, and fruits were glabrous. R succedanea was only distributed in Jeju-do and several islands which is subtropical zone in Korea. Leaflets were lanceolate to oblong, characterized by little trichomes. R.chinensis is a ubiquitous tree which is widely distributed in the temperate zone, in Korea, and ranged perpendicularly to 800-900m. Inflorescense was characterized by apical site. Fruit was covered with dense short hairs and sometimes milky latex. R. ambigua was only distributed in subtropical zone, native in Kwang-do and Sangbaek-do, Yeochon-gun, Chunlanam-do in Korea. Especially, this species was a vine, trifoliolate and most poisonous. Leaflets were coriaceous, glabrous, and revolute type.
Four to $17\%$ of the seeds of ginseng (Panax ginseng Meyer) collected from seemingly healthy plants carried Colletotrichum panacicola Nakata et Takimoto whereas the seeds from the plants with anthracnose sympotoms carried $42\%$ of the same fungus. Prevalent organisms isolated other than C. panacicola from seeds of both kinds of plants were Fusarium, Alternaria, Phoma, Trichoderma and others, ana in that order on acidified potato sucrose agar. C. panacicola also was isolated from 18 months old herbarium specimens. The fungus in the infected tissues also survived during the Korean winter months either on the soil surface or in the soil at 10 and 30 em in depth. When conidial suspensions of C. panacicola were inoculated on detached ginseng leaves, anthracnose symptoms occurred from 25 to $35^{\circ}C$. No symptoms occurred at temperatures below $17^{\circ}C$. Direct sunlight increased significantly the number of anthracnose lesions over those obtained in leaves inoculated in darkness or in 400 lux of fluorescent light. The lesions decreased as age of the leaves increased or as the number of conidia applied decreased. Optimum temperature for mycelial growth and conidial formation of C. panacicola was $25^{\circ}C$. Optimum pH for the mycelial growth was at $pH\;2.8\~4.6$ while the most conidial formation occurred at $pH\;5.2\~5.8.$. When fungicides were applied in the field to ginseng plants with a conidial suspension of C. panacicola, the most effective control of the anthracnose disease was by spraying with difolatan, and followed by maneb, zineb, captan and phaltan; Bordeaux mixture and ferbam were significantly less effective but significantly better than the inoculated control plants.
Korean Peninsula Flora Database (KPF database), developed by T.B. Lee Herbarium of Seoul National University comprises ca. 65,000 accessions of vascular plants collected from Korean peninsula from 1850 to 1945. Among these, material from North Korea (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) is represented with ca. 33,000 accessions. The largest part of this material [ca. 4287 accessions (13%) from North Korea] originates from five Japanese and one American collectors, such as Imai, Hanjiro, Mills, Ralph Garfield, Furumi, Masatomi, Nomura, Naohiko, Saito, Tatsumoto, and Okuyama, Shunki from 1909 to 1942. These data are the third largest holding (13%) of North Korean collections after Komarov, V.L and Nakai, T. A part of scientific report about the results of these expeditions had been published before, but the present publication set it sights on giving a first overview of the itineraries and the materials collected by five collectors in North Korea. Among these, Saito has by far the largest collection with 1,730 specimens, followed by five collectors in order with 1,067, 532, 510, 368 and 370 accessions by Mills, Nomura, Okuyama, Furumi, and Imai respectively.
