Optimal design and performance test of thermally controlled superconducting switch (열 제어형 초전도 스위치의 최적화 설계 및 특성 평가)

  • We had designed thermally controlled superconducting switches using a general nonlinear optimized algorithm with constraints and tested its performance. Objective function was to minimize the total volume of the superconducting switch. And constraints were to have designed resistance in normal status and temperature. In order to compare performance of the optimized superconducting switch, we made another one which had geometrically different parameters but had same structure and resistance value when the superconductor part is normal status by heater. Objective function converged very rapidly. As result, volume of the adiabatic part and total volume of the switch were reduced to more than 70% and 30% respectively. Also, even if same heater power was supplied with NiCr wire heater, the optimized superconducting switch had very fast On-OFF switching performance comparing with unoptimized switch.

NO Gas Sensing Characteristics of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes and Heating Effect (단층 탄소나노튜브의 일산화질소 가스에 대한 감응특성과 열처리 효과)

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNT) were synthesized by arc-discharge method. To fabricate CNT sensor, CNT powder was dispersed in ${\alpha}$-Terpinol($C_{10}H_{17}OH$) solution. The CNT tilms were fabricated by screen printing method on the interdigitated Pt/Pd alloy electrode. The microstructure of CNT film was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In order to investigate the gas sensing characteristics of the film, the CNT film was experimented to measure NO response and recovery time. The CNT sensor with a heater was compared to that without a heater. And this sensor shows better reproductibility and faster recovery time than another CNT sensors. We suggest the possibility to utilize a CNT as new sensing materials for environmental monitoring.

  • PET POY(pre-oriented-yam) were treated by false twister to high bulky. False twister have many processing parameters velocity ratio(VR), belt cross angle$(\theta)$, 1st heater temp. and K(twisting tension/untwisting tension). we analyzed the effect of properties of textured polyester yam on processing condition. Initial modulus, thermal stress, No. of snarl is decreased by 1st heater. In VR=1.97, Dry and wet shrinkage is increased but is decreased by 1st heater in VR=1.564. K/S and cristallinity tend to increase by decreasing VR.

  • Urea-SCR system, the selective catalytic reduction using urea as reducing agent, is a powerful technique to reduce nitrogen oxides(NOx) emitted from diesel engines. However, a tank of urea(32.5 wt%)-water solution can be frozen in low ambient temperature levels of below $-11^{\circ}C$. The purpose of this study is to understand freezing and melting phenomena of the urea-water solution, and its can be applied to get the urea-water solution from frozen it within 5 minutes after cold start. Factors considered were the type of heater and the urea tank shape. From the results, it was found that melting volume of cartridge heater B during 5 minutes of heating period was 83ml when supplying electric power of 150W. Horizontal heater B, which was put in the narrow bottom space of the tank T1, had fast melting characteristics.

  • CHF characteristics of nano- fluids were investigated with different volumetric concentrations of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles. Pool boiling experiments indicated that the application of nano-fluids, instead of pure water, as a cooling liquid significantly increased the CHF. SEM (scanning electron microscope) observations subsequent to the pool boiling experiments revealed that nanoparticles were coated on the heating surface during pool boiling of nano-fluids. In order to investigate the roles of nanoparticles in CHF enhancement ofb nano-fluids, pool boiling experiments were performed using (a) a nanoparticle-coated heater, prepared by pool boiling of nano-fluids, immersed in pure water and (b) a nanoparticle-coated heater immersed in nano-fluids. The results demonstrated two different roles of nanoparticles in CHF enhancement using nano-fluids: the effect of nanoparticles coated on the heater surface and the effect of nanoparticles suspended in nano- fluids.

Micro-Fabrication and Thermal Characteristics of a Thermal Mass Air Flow Sensor for Real-time Applications (고응답 열식 질량공기유량센서의 제작 및 열거동 특성)

  • A thermal mass air flow sensor (MAFS), which consists of a micro-heater and thermo-resistive sensors on the silicon-nitride ($Si_3N_4$) thin membrane structure, is micro-fabricated by MEMS processes. Two thermo-resistive temperature sensors are located at $100{\mu}m$ upstream and downstream from the micro-heater respectively. The thermal characteristics are measured to find the best measurement indicator. The micro-heater is operated under constant power condition, and four flow indicators are investigated. The normalized temperature indicator shows good physical meaning and is easy to use in practice. It is found that the configurations and heating power of thermal-resistive elements are the dominant factors to determine the range of the flow measurement in the MAFS with higher sensitivity and accuracy.

  • This study presents a numerical model to analyze dynamic thermal behavior of a hot chuck designed for flip-chip bonders. The hot chuck of concern is a heater which has been specifically developed for accomplishing high-speed and ultra-precision soldering. The characteristic features are radiative heat source and the heating tool made of a material of high thermal diffusivity. A physical modeling has been conducted for the network of heat transport. A simplified finite volume model is deviced to simulate time-dependent thermal behavior of the heating tool on which soldering is achieved. The reliability of the proposed numerical model is verified experimentally. A series of numerical tests illustrate the usefulness of the numerical model in design analysis.

Development of LED Traffic Light Lens with snow removing function (제설 기능을 갖는 LED 신호등 렌즈 개발)

  • It is necessary to develop an LED traffic light lens having a snow removal function capable of clearly providing a traffic signal to the driver even when a traffic light is blurred due to heavy snow and wind in the winter season. This study is focused on the research and development of the traffic light lens in the process of developing the LED traffic light with the snow removal function. In the developed traffic light lens, instead of attaching the film heater, the coated nichrome wire was wound into a coil shape and inserted directly into the groove in the lens. The developed heater system facilitates the insertion of the heating wire with high elasticity into a curved lens and can provide a sufficient heat without deformation of the PC lens. The proposed traffic lights were tested in various external environments and the test results showed that complete snow removal is possible without tunnel effect.

The Effect of Annealing Treament with Aluminum Oxide as Medium Layer and Platinum Heater (매개층 알루미늄산화막과 백금 발열체의 열처리 효과)

  • The electrical and physical characteristics of aluminum oxide and Pt thin films on it, deposited by reactive sputtering and DC magnetron sputtering respectively, were analyzed with increasing annealing temperature(400~80$0^{\circ}C$) by four point probe, SEM and XRD. Under $600^{\circ}C$ of annealing temperature, aluminum oxide had the properties of improving Pt adhesion to SiO$_2$and insulation without chemical reaction to Pt thin films and the resistivity of Pt thin films was improved. But these properties of aluminum oxide and Pt thin films on it were degraded over $700^{\circ}C$ of annealing temperature because aluminum oxide was changed into metal aluminum and then reacted to Pt thin films deposited on it. In the analysis of the thermal charateristics of Pt micro-heater fabricated on Si07/si substrate, the temperature of Pt micro-heater is up to 41$0^{\circ}C$ with the power dissipation 1.8 watts.

  • In this paper, first the thermodynamic model is presented to one of the super heaters and sprays of the Nekka power plant and then its unknown parameters are identified according to the registered data of the power plant. SCO control method is introduced to control the external steam temperature of super heater. Finally the conventional method in power plant for controlling external steam temperature of super heater is compared with new method and their performances are presented..
