  • The purpose of this study is to investigate citation behavior in internet news to research papers of 10 domestic economic institutes and to suggest institutes' impact quantitatively with h-index and various modified indices. Content analysis of 878 news articles that collected from NAVER news site was performed. First, as citing behavior, cited numbers of research papers, preferred news media, speed, source entry accuracy, centrality, subject section, and length by the institutes were examined. Next, impact indices for institutes were calculated by cited numbers using h-index, g-index, $h_s$-index, and $g_s$-index, and the ranking of 10 research institutes were determined by each impact indices. As a result, institutes belonged to upper ranks showed little variation among the different indices. On the other hand, institutes belonged to middle and lower ranks showed variations in impact indices and experts' survey.

  • This study identifies the characteristics of recent citation-based indicators for assessing a single paper in the context of their co-relationships. Five predefined indicators were examined with three variants of h-index which are convened in this study; the formers are PageRank, SCEAS Rank, CCI, f-value, and single paper h-index and the latters are $h_S$-index, h1-index, and $h_S$1-index. The correlation analysis and cluster analysis were performed to group the indicators by common characteristics, after which the indicators were calculated with the dataset from KSCI DB. The results show statistical evidence that distinguishes h-index type indicators from others. The characteristics of the indicators were verified with citation frequency factors using correlation analysis. Finally, the implications for applications and further studies are discussed.

  • This research was conducted on the conservation area of Baekdudaegan, Kangwondo under the purpose of evaluating bio-diversity according to the changes of spatial scale, using GIS data and spatial filtering method. The diversity index was calculated based on the information of species of The $5^{th}$ forest type map using Shannon-weaver index (H'), evenness index ($E_i$) and richness index ($R_i$). The diversity index was analyzed and compared according to the changes of 12 spatial scales from Kernel size $3{\times}3$ to $73{\times}73$ and basin unit. As for H' and $R_i$, spatial scale increased as diversity index decreased, while $E_i$ decreases gradually. H' and $R_i$ was highest; each 1.1 and 0.6, when the Kernel size was $73{\times}73$, while $E_i$ was 0.2, the lowest. When you look at according to the basin unit, for large basin unit, 'YeongDong' region shows higher diversity index than 'YeongSeo' region. For middle basin unit, 'Gangneung Namdaecheon' region, and for small basin unit, 'Gangneung Namdaecheon' and 'Gangneung Ohbongdaem' region shows high diversity index. When you look at the relationship between diversity index and Geographic factors, H' shows positive relation to curvature and sunshine factor while shows negative to elevation, slope, hillshade, and wetness index. Also $E_i$ was similar to the relationship between H' and Geographic factor. Meanwhile, $R_i$ shows positive relationship to curvature and sunshine factor, while negative to elevation, slope, hillshade, and wetness index. macro unit diversity index evaluation was possible through the GIS data and spatial filtering, and it can be a good source for local biosphere conservation policy making.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of using the buffer index curve as a criterion of silage quality evaluation. The buffer index (or buffer capacity, $\beta$) value is the amount of 0.1N NaOH consumed in titrating from the beginning to the end of the chosen pH step. This value equals the slope of the titration curve at the chosen pH range (${\beta}={\Delta}NaOH/{\Delta}pH$). There were two patterns of buffer index curve. Poorly preserved silages had a peak at pH 5.0, whereas with well preserved silages the peaks tended to rise to the pH 3.75 or 4.00. Well preserved, wilted silages with high pH also appeared to have peak values at pH 3.75 or 4.00. There was a high positive correlationship between the concentration of lactic acid and peak value of good quality silage (r = 0.994, p < 0.01). Also a high positive correlationship (r = 0.899, p < 0.001) was found between the sums of concentration of acetic and butyric acids and the peak values of poor quality silages. The results of these experiments verified the value of the buffer index method as a criterion of silage quality evaluation.

  • We show that if M is a $II_1$-factor and a countable discrete group G acts outerly on M then Jones' index $[M:M^G]$ of a pair of $II_1^-factors is equal to the order $\mid$G$\mid$ of G. It is also shown that for a subgroup H of G Jones' index $[M^H:M^G]$ is equal to the group index [G:H] under certain conditions.

  • This paper introduces a new bibliometric measure called Quality Factor, which assesses multiple facets of faculty research performance. The computation of Quality factor is based on a combination of publication count, citation count, h-index, and Impact Factor. In order to analyze the relationship between Quality Factor and other bibliometric measures (publication count, citation count, h-index, g-index, Impact Factor), the study collected publication data of 189 Korean Library and Information Science professors from 2001 to 2014 to produce the rankings of the faculty by each bibliometric measure and computed Spearman's rank correlations between the rankings. The overall results showed Quality Factor to be correlated to citation-driven measures (citation count, h-index, g-index), but the scatterplot as well as rank-interval analysis showed Quality Factor to be distinctive and more discriminating than other measures.

  • The Perfectionism Index (PI) is an indicator that is recently proposed to distinguish influential researchers from mass producers. In this study, Near Perfectionism Index (NPI), an improved indicator of Perfectionism Index, can be a solution to the problem of PI that indiscriminately gives a penalty to all low-cited papers regardless of publishing time or other issues. NPI improved the method to give a penalty to tail complement area considering the citation distribution curve. It prevents the improvement of the h-index from adversely affecting the researcher's influence indicator. This study uses NPI to evaluate information and library science journals in Web of Science database. It successfully distinguishes between influential journals and mass producers unlike journal h-index or average citation frequency which could not differentiate influentials from mass producers.

  • F-doped SiOC : H thin films with low refractive index were deposited on Si wafer and glass substrate by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) as a function of rf powers, substrate temperatures, gas rates and their composition flow ratios ($SiH_4,\;CF_4$ and $N_2O$). The refractive index of the F-doped SiOC : H film continuously decreased with increasing deposition temperature and rf power. As $N_2O$ gas flow rate decreased, the refractive index of the deposited films decreased down to 1.3778, reaching a minimum value at rf power of 180W and $100^{\circ}C$ without $N_2O$ gas. The fluorine content of F-doped SiOC : H film increased from 1.9 at% to 2.4 at% as the rf power was increased from 60 W to 180 W, which results in the decrease of refractive index.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the degree of cargo concentration at Korean ports using Theil's Entropy and to compare the results with those of Gini coefficient, Hoyle(1983), and Hirshmann-Herfindahl models. The entropy indices were compared with other models after measuring the cargo concentration for the period of 1981-2000 among the 18 Korean ports. The core results of empirical analysis are as follows: first, the empirical results of entropy indices show the following trends: all the ports(concentration except 1996's slight deconcentration), ports in Western area(deconcentration in 1990s and slight concentration in 2000), ports in Southern area(deconcentration in 1980s and 1990s except concentration in 2000), and ports in Eastern area(continuous trends of concentration). However, competition power will be decreased if concentration is increased, because of the character of entropy index. The empirical results of 4 indices except Hoyle model show the comparatively same directions in terms of trends. This study found out the similar results among the following models: All the ports(entropy index & Gini coefficient & H-H model), ports in Western area(Entropy index &Hoyle model), ports in Southern area(Entropy index & Gini coefficient), and ports in Eastern area(Entropy index & H-H index). The policy planner of Korean ports should find out the determination factors of concentration and deconcentration of each ports and decide the investment priority, size and scope for balancing the development of regional ports.

  • The journal impact factor(JIF) of the Thomson Reuters(ISI) has been widely used to assess the impact of journal as well as its quality. However, the JIF contains its critical limitation, in which it does not measure the impact of journal but the average impact of articles in journal. Besides significant number of problems of the JIF has been noticed. Furthermore, given the limited coverage of domestic citation index database in comparison to those of international citation index, it is necessary to apply a more appropriate index with a high level of discriminating power. This study, therefore, aims to introduce some practical methods to measure the impact of domestic journals by using the Hirsch-type indices. As the Hirsch-type indices has been often used for overcoming the limitations of the JIF in worldwide, we hope that our research outcome offers an effective alternative to gauge the impact of journals more accurately. Consequently, using the variations of the h-index($h_s$-index, $f_s$-index) or the sum of issue level(issue based h-index, issue based f-index), we argue that it would improve the discrimination capacity of the Hirsch-type indices significantly and that we can measure the impact of domestic journals more clearly.
