Common Innovative City in Gwangju and Jeonnam Province: Location Selection Process and Regional Development Effects (광주.전남 공동혁신도시 입지선정과 지역발전 효과)

  • Central government of Korea devised the balanced national development as one of important agenda of government administration, and set up special act for balanced national development. According to special act, a plan to transfer public institutions to local areas was publicized on June 24, 2005. Thus 175 public institutions located in the capital area will be transfered to 11 local governments, and innovative cities will be built in local areas until 2012. However, Gwangju and Jeonnam province adopted not two individual innovative cities but one common innovative city in cooperation with two local governments. This study focuses on the characteristics of location selection process of common innovative city in Gwangju and Jeonnam province. Discussion about construction of common innovative city was started in need of new model for common development of two provinces, and most of peoples agreed a plan to establish on common innovative city within Jeonnam area near Gwangju area. Gwangju Jeonnam Regional Innovation Council, in particular, played an important role in the process of location selection and initial discussion about common innovative city. In addition, Common innovative city to be built in Naju city will be provided positive regional development effects in several dimensions. In result, it has been evaluated as a successful model of innovative city to be constructed with transfer of public institutions to local areas.

  • This paper suggests the strategy for attracting FDI in Gwangju and Jeonnam region using the secondary data collected by homepage of Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Gwangju City, and Jeollanam-do. The strategy for attracting FDI in Gwangju and Jeonnam region is as follows: First, the local governments of Gwangju and Jeonnam must progressively attract FDI by adjusting to the Korean government's regional industry policy direction. Second, in order to attract FDI consistently, the local governments of Gwangju and Jeonnam must enhance the ability of local officials to attract FDI. Third, in order to attract FDI effectively, the local governments of Gwangju and Jeonnam must build a complete system to support FDI. Fourth, in order to attract FDI effectively, the local governments of Gwangju and Jeonnam have to apply different investment incentives according to FDI effectiveness. Fifth, the local governments of Gwangju and Jeonnam must consistently support foreign companies in order to induce FDI expansion by foreign companies which have already invested in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions. Finally, in order to attract FDI consistently, the local governments of Gwangju and Jeonnam must improve the negative images and living environments of the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions.

  • The purpose of this study was to survey the actual condition about field learning materials in Gwangju and Jeonnam area. The questionnaire was developed to examine teachers' perceptions and actual condition of a field teaming related science subject at 145 elementary schools in Gwangju city and Jeonnam province. The results of this study were as follows. First, the rate of school in performing field teaming related to 'strata and fossils' in science class was $6.8\%$. Second, the place of dianosaur track fossils in Jeonnam province, which was suitable for field teaming 'strata and fossils: were well known by $75\%$ of teachers. Also $68\%$ of teachers have not visited those places. On the basis of this result, the followings are proposed. First, field teaming materials and place should be developed in each school district. Second, field teaming strategies should be developed in various level. Third, some programs to study how to teach in the field teaming and experience the various field places should be suggested to preservice teachers as well as inservice teachers.

Potential Job Seekers' Preferences on the Local Jobs: A Case of the POSCO Outsourcing Partner Cooperation in Gwangyang City (지역 일자리에 대한 잠재적 구직자의 선호도 분석: 광양제철소 협력사를 사례로)

  • The Gwangyang City of Jeonnam Province, is one of the steel cities representing the Korea. Gwangyang Steelworks are the core of the local economy, and 59 firms of POSCO Outsourcing Partner Cooperation(POSPA) have been employed 9,300 to 9,500 peoples, and have been acted as an central incubator for job creation. POSPA, however, are suffering from the retirement of company in young age group, in their 20s and 30s. The purpose of this study is to analyze potential job seekers' perceptions and job preferences for POSPA are suffering from job openings. In order to this research purpose, it used questionary survey, and sample groups were divided into three areas, the Eastern Jeonnam Province, Gwangju, and the Seoul metropolitan area. Potential job seekers' perceptions for POSPA was low, and perceptions on firm and job opportunity information was lower. This characteristics were the same as those of respondents living in eastern South Jeolla Province. Potential job seekers, however, showed high preference for finding job at POSPA. A place-based policy considering the local labor market is needed to resolve the mismatch between the difficulty of finding a labor and the difficulty of finding a job.

Relationship between Educational Beliefs and Teaching Efficacy of Early Childhood Teachers (유아교사의 교육신념과 교수효능감의 관계 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between educational beliefs and teaching efficacy of early childhood teachers. The subjects were 291 early childhood teachers in Gwangju City and Jeonnam Province. The research showed that teachers' educational beliefs were significantly associated with teaching efficacy for the teachers who have more than five-year-teaching career. In addition, teachers who had maturational educational belief showed higher scores in general teaching efficacy throughout all educational level. Moreover, teachers who had maturational educational belief and interactional educational belief showed higher teaching efficacy scores in public and private kindergartens and private childcare centers.

  • This study was conducted to find out the relationship between knowledge and attitudes about COVID-19 and infection control performance among college students in paramedicine. The subjects of the study were 154 university students attending a 3-4 year paramedicine located in Gwangju Metropolitan City, Jeollabuk-do Province, and the collected data were frequency, percentage, sum, average and It was analyzed by standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA(Scheffe), Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, and Multiple Linear Regression. The order of attitude and knowledge about COVID-19 affected the infection control performance of college students in the paramedicine. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and apply regular or non-regular curriculum and multidisciplinary curriculum that can improve knowledge and attitudes about COVID-19 in order to improve the infection control performance of paramedic students.

Comparison of Service Usage of Outpatients at Korean Medical Clinics by Regions and Gender (한방의료기관을 이용하는 외래환자의 지역 및 남녀별 치료질병의 우선순위 비교)

  • This research has academic significance in that it uses the data from "Research on Usage of Korean Medicine Service and Medicine" to analyze the differences in usage of Korean medicine service by regions and genders on a national scale. The items analyzed were the sociodemographic characteristics, preferences of forms of Korean medicine service by gender and province. The results showed that there were statistically significant differences by marital status, education, occupation, and income (p<.01). Men used service for back pains (23.0%), muscle injuries (20.7%), back sprain (16.5%), ankle sprain (11.2%), and arthritis (10.5%). Women used service for back pains (26.5%), arthritis (18.7%), muscle injuries (12.9%), back sprain (12.1%), and indigestion problems (10.1%). There were statistically significant differences among men and women (p<.01). In the comparison analysis by cities, back pain was the biggest reason (p<.01), but there were differences from city to city; In Gwangju, back sprains (24.4%) and ankle sprains (16.1%) were first and second reasons, while In Ulsan, back sprains were the first reason (29.8%). By province level, back pains were the biggest reason for men, but there were differences by provinces (p<.05); In Chungbuk and Jeonnam, muscle injuries were first (23.7% and 23.9%, respectively). In conclusion, there were differences by cities and provinces in usage of Korean medical service, as well as by gender.

중ㆍ고등학생의 제 7차 기술ㆍ가정 교과 내용에 대한 인식

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the recognition of middle and high school students on the 7th technology home economics curriculum. This study was carried out to understand the difference in the level of needs. interesting on the 7th technologyㆍhome economics curriculum and application on the life to maximize the effect of technologyㆍhome economics education by the socio-demographic factors. For this purpose, survey was conducted 437 students in the middle school and high school in the Gwangju city and Jeonnam province. The survey was consists of items related with socio-demographic factors in 9 questions. The curriculum of technologyㆍhomes economic consist in the level of application and general tendency and level of needs in 47 different unites. The major findings of this study are as follows. 1. The understanding of internet application. me and family relation, nutrition of youth were showed high perception in order in the level of needs on the technology home economics curriculum. 2. The internet application, home life practice and me and family relation showed high perception in order in the level of interesting. 3. The internet application, home life practice and me and family relation showed also high perception in order that helps living life. And the understanding of architectural principles and industry and characteristics of materials showed low perception.

The Impacts of Social Support and Self-Efficacy on Career Decision Level among Female University Students (여대생의 사회적 지지 및 자기 효능감이 진로결정 수준에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of social support and self-efficacy on career decision level among female university students. Data was collected by questionnaires from 380 students at 3 universities in Jeonnam province and Gwangju city, Korea. The results were as follows. First, the average levels of social support, self-efficacy and career decision were over middle point(2.5point). The best of them was self-efficacy. Second, the lowest level of them by grade was commonly freshman female students. But there were no significant differences by major except for soczzzzzial support. Third, the effective sub-variables of social support which have influenced on career decision level were self-esteem support and evaluated support. Forth, the impactive sub-variables of self-efficacy which have influenced on career decision level showed general self-efficacy. Fifth, the significant sub-variables of social support which have influenced on self-efficacy were self-esteem support and material support. This study suggested that the high levels of self esteem social support and general self-efficacy led students to improve in career decision level. Here showed that the effect by grade or group on study was more clear than that by major.

A Survey on the Health Status of North Korean Refugees in a Region (일 지역 북한이탈주민의 건강 실태)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this survey was to investigate the health status (food intake, exercise, smoking, drinking, stress, social support) of North Korean Refugees in Gwangju metropolitan city and Jeonnam province. Method : Data were collected by self-reported questionnaire from 61 North Korean Refugees from March 20 to April 20, 2005. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics using SPSS win 12.0 programs. Results: In current health status, 42.7% of the subjects were in poor health. In exercise status, 32.8% of the subjects practiced exercise regular basis but only 13.1% did it 3-4 times per week. In smoking status, 26.2% of the subjects were current smokers and 81% were nicotine dependent. In drinking status, 37.7% of the subjects were current drinkers, 48% were problematic and 17% were alcohol dependent. In stress status, 42.7% of the subjects were in psycho-emotional, 49.2% in physical and 19.6% in behavioral stress. The mean score of social support was 24 out of 54 points showing a little low relatively. Conclusion : These findings showed that the health conditions of Saeteomins were poor relatively. Therefore, health care programs should be started for these Saeteomins in order to improve their health status.
