Purpose: This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal dimensions of individuals with skeletal class II, division 1 and division 2 patterns during the pre-peak, peak, and post-peak growth periods for comparison with a skeletal class I control group. Materials and Methods: Totally 124 lateral cephalograms (47 for skeletal class I; 45 for skeletal class II, division 1; and 32 for skeletal class II, division 2) in pre-peak, peak, and post-peak growth periods were selected from the department archives. Thirteen landmarks, 4 angular and 4 linear measurements, and 4 proportional calculations were obtained. The ANOVA and Duncan test were applied to compare the differences among the study groups during the growth periods. Results: Statistically significant differences were found between the skeletal class II, division 2 group and other groups for the gonion-gnathion/sella-nasion angle. The sella-nasion-B-point angle was different among the groups, while the A-point-nasion-B-point angle was significantly different for all 3 groups. The nasopharyngeal airway space showed a statistically significant difference among the groups throughout the growth periods. The interaction among the growth periods and study groups was statistically significant regarding the upper oropharyngeal airway space measurement. The lower oropharyngeal airway space measurement showed a statistically significant difference among the groups, with the smallest dimension observed in the skeletal class II, division 2 group. Conclusion: The naso-oropharyngeal airway dimensions showed a statistically significant difference among the class II, division 1; class II, division 2; and class I groups during different growth periods.
The purpose of this study was to investigate nutritional component changes (chlorophylls, vitamin C, and minerals) in two Korean spinach cultivars (Cheongrok, Ddangddali) according to different growth periods, as well as differences in the components of three plant parts (leaves, stems, and roots). Chlorophyll, vitamin C, Na, and Hunter‘s color a/b values reached maximum levels in the spinach leaves after 35 days of planting, while these components did not significantly change in the stems and roots during the growth period. Chlorophyll and vitamin C contents were higher in the leaves than in thestems and roots. On the other hand, moisture content was higher in the stems than in the leaves and roots, and Fe content was highest in the roots. The vitamin C content of this fresh harvested spinach was 2.5 times higher compared to the existing data (Food Nutritive Value Table 2005).
This paper investigated the causal relationship between IT investment and economic performance with the office, computing and accounting machinery (OCAM) and gross domestic product (GDP) statistics from the United States for the period 1961 to 2001. Due to non-stationary aspects of the series, found by unit root tests, it was deemed applicable to apply growth models using the first difference of the series. The results indicate that IT investment growth at the country level do not only cause economic performance growth, but are also caused by economic performance growth. While IT investment growth affect economic performance growth over shorter time periods, economic performance growth affect IT investment growth over longer time periods. As a result, this study reveals IT investment growth have the preceding effect on economic performance growth, and then economic performance growth impact subsequently on IT investment growth.
Among 31 water-born microbial strains isolated from various sites in Korea, strain DJ-4 was selected as a test organism for toxicity measurements in that its growth was completely inhibited by the presence of 668.4 mg/L of chloroform and 297.5 mg/L of toluene in the liquid LB medium whereas others did not. It was observed that lag periods and specific growth rates of DJ-4 batch vial cultures were prolonged and decreased, respectively, by phenol, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, p-xylene, perchloroethylene, trichloroethylene, and chloroform at the concentrations between 3.6 and 417.8 mg/L. There changes were found to be linear with respect to the concentrations of the toxic compounds. From the first-order regression equations, 50% effective concentrations (EC50${\mu}$ for concentrations of toxic compounds causing 50% decrease of specific growth rates and EC50lag for 50% increase of length of lag periods) were calculated for each compounds. By comparing DJ-4 EC50${\mu}$ values with Daphnia LC50's from a literature for benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, and trichloroethlyene, it was concluded that microbial specific growth could be a new, fast, and reliable parameter for toxicity tests.

The water in the crop cultivation shows difference according to the variety of crop, cultivations period and climatic condition. The growth and development, quantity and fruit enlargements are affected by soil water conditions. In previous study, leaf area and photosynthesis are decreased by lower soil moisture. Other research reported that excess moisture condition at vegetative and reproductive growth period in cultivation of soybean caused highest reduction in crop growth rate (CGR) and dry weights of plant parts. In particular, the damage was bigger during vegetative growth stage than reproductive growth period. Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merill) is useful and popular crop throughout the world. It is very popular crop in Korea, China, Japan and other Asian countries. Soybeans used in various way including soybean sprouts, paste, soymilk, oil and tofu. Two soybean cultivars grown in four different irrigation conditions were determined for physiological responses. In this study, we examined leaf area (LA), leaf dry weight (LDW), specific leaf area (SLA), root dry weight (RDW) and shoot height (SH) in different water conditions. 50mL/9day irrigation periods showed the lowest contents in LA, LDW, RDW, SH. Water deficit caused increase of leaf Water saturation deficits (WSD), Cheongjakong 3 and Taekwangkong showed increase of leaf water saturation deficits (WSD) in drought conditions and leaf water potential and stomatal conductance were decreased. Photochemical efficiency was decreased in 50mL/1day irrigation condition while, there was decrease of growth and development in 50mL/9day with drought.
To clarify the proper and safe duration of maturation periods for sawdust-pig manure composts, leaf lettuces were applied with pig manure composts fermented for 15, 30, 45, 60, 75 days and 1 year (control) and cultivated in a plastic house with or without additional PE film tunnel. The changes in physiochemical properties of soil and leaf lettuce growth were measured. Shorter duration of maturation periods enhanced the generation of N $H_3$ gas from the composts and resulted in significant decrease in seed germination, growth and yield of leaf lettuce. Under with and without PE tunnel conditions the concentration of N $H_3$ from compost over 3.8 and 2.1 mg/100g composts, respectively induced growth reduction. In proportion to the increase of maturation duration saw-dust containing pig manure exhibited decrease in C/N ratio, N $H_4^{+}$-N, N $H_4^{+}$N $O_3^{-}$ ratio but increase in N $O_3^{-}$-N contents. In case of applying pig manure compost without PE film tunnel condition the minimum maturation period of pig manure composts for safe leaf growth was 60 days, while minimum 75 days of maturation was required when applied with PE film tunnel. tunnel.
This paper conducts a Structural Dcomposition Analysis on the structure of factors contributing to the output growth of Korean Maritime and Port Industry during year 2000~ year 2017. Some of results are as follows. The output growth rates of the industry (yearly average 4.3%) was far lower than the average growth rates of Service as well as of Manufacturing Industries (yearly average 9% and 6.8%, respectively) due to the lower output growth of Maritime Industry. Among the growth contributing factors, change in domestic demand for final goods is the first contributing factor, and then change in technology, change in export and import substitution for intermediate goods are followed in order, but import substitution for final goods decreased its output. However, in each respective sub-periods of pre-global financial crisis and post-global financial crisis, change in the export, especially change in the export of Maritime Industry is the dominant determinant of output change in the Maritime and Port Industry in opposite ways. In the periods of the former the increase in the export of Maritime Industry overwhelmingly led the output growth of the Maritime and Port industry, but in the periods of the latter the decrease in its export was the culprit of lower output growth of the industry. On the other hand, among all industries of service and manufacturing sectors, Wholesale and Retail industry is the leading industry in contributing to the output growth of the Maritime and Port Industry, and Transportation Equipment industry is the leading industry among all manufacturing industries.
We studied temperature sensitivity characteristics of soil respiration during periods of rising and falling temperatures within a common temperature range. We measured soil respiration continuously through two periods (a period of falling temperature, from August 7, 2003 to October 13, 2003; and a period of rising temperature from May 2, 2004 to July 2, 2004) using an open-top chamber technique. A clear exponential relationship was observed between soil temperature and soil respiration rate during both periods. However, the effects of soil water content were not significant, because the humid monsoon climate prevented soil drought, which would otherwise have limited soil respiration. We analyzed temperature sensitivity using the $Q_{10}$ value and $R_{ref}$ (reference respiration at the average temperature for the observation period) and found that these values tended to be higher during the period of rising temperature than during the period of falling temperature. In the absence of an effect on soil water content, several other factors could explain this phenomenon. Here, we discuss the factors that control temperature sensitivity of soil respiration during periods of rising and falling temperature, such as root respiration, root growth, root exudates, and litter supply. We also discuss how the contribution of these factors may vary due to different growth states or due to the effects of the previous season, despite a similar temperature range.
In order to clarify the best cultural conditions of Rhizopus niveus the effects of aeration, pH and various nutrients, such as different carbon and nitrogen sources, vitamins, and growth substances, on the mycelial growth were studied through liquid culture, and amylase activities of the fungus at different cultural periods were measured. Soluble starch, xylose and galactose are excellent sources of carbon for growth of the fungus. Sorbose and lactose are utilized slightly for growth. peptone, ammonium sulfate and alanine are excellent nitrogen sources for growth, tyrptophane nad potassium nitrate are utilized slightly for growth and sodium nitrite is not utilized. Thiamine nad gibberellin are excellent growth substances for the fungal growth, and biotin, nicotinamide and indole acetic acid (IAA) are also effective. Rhizopus niveus grows better at rotatory culture than at stationary culture and earlier growth of the fungus increases remarkably at rotatory culture. Optimum pH than at pH3. Growth increases linerly with an increase of soluble starch content up to 100g per liter medium, but 5 grams of ammonium sulfate per liter is the optimum nitrogen concentration for growth, if Pfeffer's medium is employed. Amylase activities of Rhizopus at different cultural periods showed that the maximum amylase production takes place after the cell population has reached its peak in the culture. Dextrinogenic amylase production has reached maximum at stationary phase, and maximum saccharogenic maylase production takes place in the pahse of negative gorwth acceleration.

Carcass weight and backfat thickness are two of important elements in determining the carcass trait in pigs and are studied on animal genetics, nutrition, and endocrinology. Growth factors stimulate or inhibit the proliferation and differentiation of various cells. In particular, insulin-like growth factors (IGFs), transforming growth factor (TGF)-$\beta$, and epidermal growth factor (EGF) are involved in the growth and maintenance of muscle. Also, dehydroepiandrosterone-sulfate (DHEA-S) and cortisol are known to be related to the obesity and subcutaneous fat depth in pigs. Therefore, this study was performed to relate growth factors (IGFs, TGF-${\beta}1$, and EGF) and hormones (cortisol and DHEA-S) concentrations at antemortem and postmortem periods to carcass traits including carcass weight and backfat thickness. Blood and m. Longissimus were collected in pigs at antemortem (30 days before slaughter) and postmortem periods. After slaughtered, carcass weight and backfat thickness were measured. Growth factors and hormones in serum and m. Longissimus were measured by radioimmunoassay or enzyme-linked imuunosorbent assay. Before antemortem period, serum IGF-I and -II concentrations were positively correlated with the carcass weight and backfat thickness in gilts, and the concentrations of TGF- ${\beta}1$ and cortisol in barrows show the correlation with only carcass weight. Also, the positive correlations of muscular IGFs and TGF-${\beta}1$ at postmortem 45 min with the carcass weight and backfat thickness were detected. Consequently, these results suggest that the serum and muscular endocrine factors are involved in the carcass weight and backfat thickness in pigs.
