A Study on the Synthesis of Potassium Hexatitanate Whisker by the Slow Cooling Calcination Process (서냉 소성법에 의한 육티탄산칼륨 Whisker의 합성에 관한 연구)

  • Fibrous potassium hexatitanate whisker with the size of $ID=0.5{\sim}1{\mu}m$ and length=$100{\sim}1000{\mu}m$ (aspect ratio=100~1000) was produced through the reaction between titanium dioxide and potassium carbonate using the slow-cooling calcination followed by water leaching treatment. The optimum condition for the production of fibrous potassium titanate was calcination temperature of $1100^{\circ}C$ for 5hrs, $TiO_2$ mole ratlo to $K_2CO_3$ of 4.5 and slow-cooling rate of $0.5^{\circ}C/min$ to $860^{\circ}C$. Fibrous crystal are grown by the association between the solid potassium titanate and liquid phase during the slow-cooling process. The Proper water leaching condition for removing of K component was leaching time of 10hrs in boiling water. Pressurizing of the mixture of $K_2CO_3$ and $TiO_2$ to be calcinated became effective on the growth of fibrous crystal.

Factors Influencing Protoplast Isolation and Culture in Three Capsicum Species (세 가지 고추속 식물의 원형질체 분리 및 배양에 미치는 요인)

  • Protoplasts were isolated from cotyledons, hypocotyls, and mesophyll tissues of three species of Capsicum species (C. anuumm, C. bacatuum, and C. chacoense). Combination of Cellulysin (1%) and Macero-zyme (0.25%) in 0.65 M sorbitol was found to be the most effective for the digestion of cell wall, regardless of the Capsicum species. Antioxidant MES (2-[N-Morpholino]ethanesulfonic acid) in the enzyme solution helped protoplasts overcome browning. After 5 days of initial culture, Cell division occurred in modified K8p medium containing 1~5 mg/L zeatin, 0.5 mg/L IAA, 0.1~0.5 mg/L TDZ, and 1 mg/L 2,4-D under continuous dark condition at $25^{\circ}C$. Semi-solid agarose culture method was more effective than liquid culture, and it also protected the cells from browning caused by polyphenolic compound released during protoplast culture. A total of 4000 calli were obtained from protoplast culture of different capsicum species. All of these calli were transferred to the 100 combinations of regeneration media using various plant growth regulators; TDZ, IAA, 2ip, BAP, NAA, and zeatin. These calli derived from protoplast of three species of capsicum were, however, not differentiated into shoots.

Antitumor Effect of Young Radish Kimchi Prepared with Young Radish Cultivated in the Soil Containing Sulfur on Sarcoma-180 Tumor Cells Transplanted Mice (유황처리 열무로 제조한 열무김치의 Sarcoma-180 암세포에 대한 고형암 성장 억제효과)

  • Young radishes (YR, yeolmu in Korean) were cultivated in the soil with and without sulfur. Young radish kimchi-general (YR kimchi-G) was prepared with YR commonly cultivated in the soil without sulfur. Young radish kimchl-sulfur (YR kimchi-S) and young radish kimchi-sulfur with lime mortar (YR kimchi-SL) were prepared with the YR cultivated in the soil with sulfur an4 sulfur added lime mortar on it respectively. Antitumor effects of methanol extracts from the YR kimchis were investigated in sarcoma-180 tumor cell transplanted mice. The solid tumor growth was significantly inhibited by the YR kimchi-SL prepared with YR grown in the soil with sulfur (p < 0.05). The treatment of the methanol extracts from YR kimchi-S and -SL increased the glutathione S-transferase activities and glutathione contents in the livers, compared to thlose of YR kimchi-G and the control. One of the antitumor effects by the YR kimchis was due to the increased the glutathione levels and the glutathione S-transferase activity which is phase 2 enzyme. These results also suggested that the antitumor effects of YR kimchi can be enhanced by using YR cultivated differently in the presence of sulfur that can help to produce sulfur-containing compounds in YR.

Physical and Electrochemical Properties of Gallium Oxide (β-Ga2O3) Nanorods as an Anode Active Material for Lithium Ion Batteries (리튬이온전지용 산화갈륨 (β-Ga2O3) 나노로드 (Nanorods) 음극 활물질의 물리적.전기화학적 특성)

  • $\beta-Ga_{2}O_{3}$ nanorods were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition method using nickel-oxide nanoparticle as a catalyst and gallium metal powder as a source material. The average diameter of nanorods was around 160 nm and the average length was $4{\mu}m$. Also, we confirmed that the synthesis of nanorods follows the vapor-solid growth mechanism. From the results of X-ray diffraction and HR-TEM observation, it can be found that the synthesized nanorods consisted of a typical core-shell structure with single-crystalline $\beta-Ga_{2}O_{3}$ core with a monoclinic crystal structure and an outer amorphous gallium oxide layer. Li/$\beta-Ga_{2}O_{3}$ nanorods cell delivered capacity of 867 mAh/g-$\beta-Ga_{2}O_{3}$ at first discharge. Although the Li/$\beta-Ga_{2}O_{3}$ nanorods cell showed low coulombic efficiency at first cycle, the cell exhibited stable cycle life property after fifth cycle.

Immunostimulating and Anticancer Activities of Hot Water Extract from Capsosiphon fulvescens (매생이 열수추출물의 면역 및 항암 활성)

  • To investigate the immunostimulating and anticancer activities from hot water extract of Capsosiphon fulvescens, tumor cell toxicity, sarcoma-180 growth inhibition activity, complement system-activity, intestinal immune system and oral toxicity were performed. The extract of Capsosiphon fulvescens was prepared by hot water and precipitated by using ethanol. Partially purified extract (CFE) was obtained after dialysis and ultrafiltration. The polysaccharide compositions consisted of xylose(19.1%), fucose(15.3%), mannose(4.2%) and galactose(7.9%). The tumor cell toxicity of CFE slightly showed at high concentrations of 10-30 ${\mu}g/ml$, but inhibition ratio against mouse solid tumor was more increased for CFE of 40.1-59.4% than the control. Blood leukocyte counts increased to a maximum of 83% including liver, spleen and thymic of mouse. Immunoglobulin A binding amounts showed a high level of CFE of $2,454{\pm}113.8-2,670{\pm}133.1{\mu}g/mg$ in comparison with the control of $2,092{\pm}123.0{\mu}g/mg$. Acute toxicity of CFE was not detected at the concentration of 2,000 mg/kg in normal mouse.

  • In 2017, the government of Duterte, in the second year of the ruling, more strongly promoted peace and order policies and expressed independent diplomacy as the chairman of ASEAN. He continued to fight against drugs and tried to increase his political legitimacy through the punishment for corrupt officials. He also declared martial law in the Mindanao region because of the dissolution of the Maute group, a Muslim terrorist organization, and strengthened counterterrorism cooperation externally. In addition, as to Communist militants, he took the initial reconciliation gesture and promoted peace negotiations, however, concluded the peace tide and started the suppression operation due to a series of bloodshed. He still has a strong drive in peace and order issues, backed up by high support rate, but it is becoming a factor of anxiety as the socioeconomically underprivileged and minority groups are increasingly alienated. As the chairman of ASEAN, Duterte has a certain distance from the United States, which is a firm ally, but has turned to increase familiarity with China and Russia, which can take substantial economic benefits. Through diversifying the external economic support and increase of tax revenue, the priority task was to establish the infrastructure. Although the Philippines, which has a high economic growth rate, has a strong expectation that it can establish a solid infrastructure, tax reforms should be successfully completed in order not to repeat the previous failures, which has traditionally increased foreign debt burden by relying on external resources. It seems that it is necessary to find the meeting point of the foreign policy of Duterte and new Korean government's New Southern Policy, and to find possible economic cooperation policies to improve Philippine infrastructure.

Analysis on the Efficacy of Cosmetic Application of Lijang Snow Tea (Nekemias grossedentata) (리장 설차 (Nekemias grossedentata )의 화장품적 적용 효능 분석)

  • In this study, we analyzed the cosmetic applicability of extract from snow tea, native to Lijiang, Yunnan-province, China. After confirming the species as N. grossedentata through DNA analysis of Lijiang snow tea, experiments were conducted using representative tea, green tea, and a representative control group for each efficacy analysis. Both teas were extracted using 70% (v/v) ethanol aqueous solution. The polyphenol content in the Lijiang snow tea extract (gallic acid equivalent, 23.9 ± 3.2 mg/mL) was higher than that in green tea extract (16.4 ± 2.3 mg/mL). In contrast, the antioxidant (Radical scavenging, IC50 104 ㎍/mL), tyrosinase enzyme inhibitory (whitening agent, IC50 40.7 ㎍/mL), and Escherichia coli growth inhibitory (preservative) activities (IC50 2.85 mg/mL) were analyzed based on the solid content in the extract, and it was confirmed that the activities of Lijiang snow tea extract were superior to those of green tea extract (radical scavenging, IC50 234 ㎍/mL. It also showed similar efficacy to previously used active substances such as antioxidants (vitamin C, IC50 108 ㎍/mL), whitening agents (vitamin C, IC50 80㎍/mL), and preservatives (methylparaben, IC50 4.35 mg/mL). However, green tea was found to be better in collagenase inhibition activity (anti-wrinkle). Through this study, the cosmetic application potential of Lijiang snow tea is high.

  • This study examines potential growth and different perspectives on green-walls, which are being re-evaluated recently. The aim is to identify the viewer preferences concerning the walls by collecting a wide spectrum of information to create an interior design related comprehensive and intellectual database. Also based on this proposition, choosing a green surface of indoor wall as a specific example stimulus, identifying a relationship betweeationsviewer's preference factors. The relationship will formulate detailed and absolute qualities, which will reach potential areas that the green walls can be widely applied in. As a result of a factor analysis, the viewers classified into the 3 factors as is pleasant, gorgeous and rich about the stimulus. Preferred key factors, which are closely related to emotional image language, were; cool, tidy, comfortable and beautiful. The common factors in preferred design stimulus, in order of importance are color>elements>image/form/plants. Specific levels of design factors according to relevance are contrast>furniture> modern>central/creeper foliage plants. In the meantime, this study is leading the process of quantitative measurement of green-walls to a new design direction and it is critical to consistently experimenting to back up the theory with solid evidence.

Relationship Between Composition and Type of Fertilizer and Seedling Growth II. Nutrient Concentration of Seedling Components (비료의 성분 및 종류와 묘목과의 관계 연구 II. 묘목의 부위별 양분 농도에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to design new fertilizers for forests, seedlings of Pinus densiflora, Larix leptolepis Betula platyphylla var. japonica, and FQuercus acutissima were treated with different fertilizers, and nutrient concentrations in seedling components were analyzed. In general, nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) concentrations in seedling components increased after N and P application. Potassium (K) concentration in seedling components of Pinus densiflora and Quercus acutissima increased after N, P and K application. However, there were no significant changes in calcium (Ca), sodium (Na) and magnesium (Mg) concentrations. Nitrogen and P concentrations in seedling components increased with the amount of solid combination fertilizer and UF combination fertilizer. Potassium concentration for Pinus densiflora and Na and Ca concentrations for Larix leptolepis also increased with the amount of combination fertilizers. However, nutrient concentrations in seedling components showed no significant changes with different combination fertilizers.

Superconductor Preparation by use of YBa2Cu3Ox powder and BaPbO3 Additive (YBa2Cu3Ox 분말과 첨가제 BaPbO3를 이용한 초전도체 제작)

  • In this paper, as an attempt to improve the preparation conditions of $YBa_2Cu_3Ox$ superconducting bulk samples, the properties of $YBa_2Cu_3Ox$ superconductor depending on the particle size of YBCO powder and $BaPbO_3$ as an additive have been investigated, and a study on the effects of additive to the density, grain alignment, and porosity of samples that affect the critical current of superconductor has been performed. In order to prepare superconductor, $YBa_2Cu_3Ox$ powder synthesized by sol-gel method, showing a size distribution of 0.2~1 ${\mu}m$ was used. The $BaPbO_3$ added to promote grain growth and to decrease porosities and weak links between grain boundaries of $YBa_2Cu_3Ox$ superconductors. In the samples prepared by sol-gel synthesized powder with 10, 20, and 30 wt% conductive $BaPbO_3$ additives, the sample with 20 wt% $BaPbO_3$ obtained the highest critical current of 4.74 A, showing 20 wt% higher critical current than that with solid state synthesized powder.
