We prepared orthorhombic $LiMnO_2$ by emulsion drying method. The thermo-gravimetric measurement and X-ray diffraction studies indicated that the orthorhombic $LiMnO_2$ phase was formed above $800^{\circ}C$ by oxygen evaporation process from $LiMn_2O_4$ and $Li_2MnO_3$. In this process, we could control the ordering of $LiMnO_2$ with heating rate. It was observed that electrochemical properties depended on the ordering of this material; the ordered one exhibited good capacity retention, whereas the disordered one suffered capacity fading upon cycling, especially in the 3 V region. Transmission electron microscopic (TEM) study showed that this difference is related with difference in the stress relieving effects in the samples.
In an effort to optimize tissue culture responses of tall fescue, the effects of basic medium and carbon sources on seed culturability and genotypic difference of plant regenerability were investigated. The MS basal medium was superior to $N_{5}$ 6/ and $B_{medium}$ in enhancing callus growth and plant regeneration. To determine the effect of carbon sources on plant regeneration, the seeds were cultured on medium with 30 g/L sucrose and maltose, respectively. Medium supplemented with 30 g/L sucrose resulted in regeneration of shoots from 50% of the calli. The genotypic difference in plant regenerability was obvious among five cultivars of tall fescue tested. \\`KY31\\` and \\`Hokuryo\\` showed to have higher regenerability with the frequency of 33% and 51%, respectively.
Application of the Rheocatch Hotwire Monitoring System for food biotechnology process was evaluated. The growth of microogranism, E coli (JM 83 and Sigma) and Corynesccfertun glutamicum, were monitored. in the fermentor. The cell growth could not be detected the temperature differences between the hotwire and samples($\Delta$T) as indicated by the monitoring system during the fermentation processes. The cell concentration of less than 2g/dl was not sufficient to generate the measurable temperature difference in the fermentor. In order to calibrate the Rheocatch Monitoring System, the temperature difference as a function of solute concentration (microbial cells, sodium cholide, sucrose and dextran) was studied. The relationship between $\Delta$T and the concentration of microbial cells, sucrose and dextran can be expressed in a power series. Further studied with dextran indicated that viscosity and/or kinematic viscosity increase exponentially with an increase in $\Delta$T This is regardless of the concentration and molecular weight of dextran. $\Delta$T linearly increases with the logarithm of molecular weight, while the logarithm of viscosity and the logarithm of kinematic viscosity increase with the logarithm of molecular weight.
In order to clarify regeneration processes and mechanisms of the disturbed Pinus densiflora forest, responses of Pinus densiflora to gap formed by disturbance were analysed by growth of saplings and mature and growth equations were obtained from branch growth of mature trees and height growth of saplings, and age distribution of saplings and young trees recruited within gap was analysed in relation to gap age. Height growth of saplings within gaps was accelerated after gap formation. Such abrupt increases of growth of saplings after the gap formation might be resulted in the difference of growth of saplings between gap and non-gap areas. In fact, height and diameter of saplings in the central part of gap were larger than those of saplings in marginal parts of gap and non-gap area. However, density of saplings was not different in both parts. In addition, growth of annual rings of mature trees bordering on gap also increased after gap formation. Branch growth of mature trees bodering on gap was 6.3 - 6.5 cm /year and the mean radius of gaps created by death of only one canopy tree was about 3 m. Therefore, for those gaps to be closed by branch growth it will take 46 years. Growth of saplings within gap showed exponential equation. Fifty years will be required for the saplings to enter the forest canopy by the exponential growth equation. Therefore, gap created by only one tree might be closed by branch growth of surrounding canopy trees in advance of being done by height growth of saplings. But gaps created by death of trees more than 2 will be closed by the growth of saplings. Among the regenerating saplings and young trees within gaps, individuals established in advance of gap formation were more than those established after the gap formation. From these results, it was assumed that the disturbed Pinus densiflora forests in these sites were regenerated by height growth of saplings recruited in advance of gap formation.
The temperature hump is found to be most efficient in suppressing parasitic nucleation. With the temperature humps, there are found to be observed in undersaturations along the transport path for convective-diffusive processes ranging from $D_{AB}$ = 0.0584 $\textrm{cm}^2$/s to 0.584 $\textrm{cm}^2$/s, axial positions from 0 to 7.5 cm. With decreasing Ar = 5 to 3.5, the temperature difference is increased because of the imposed nonlinear temperature profile but the rate is decreased. For 2 $\leq$ Ar $\leq$ 3.5, the rate is increased with the aspect ratio as well as the temperature difference. Such an occurrence of a critical aspect ratio is likely to be due to the effect of sidewall and much small temperature difference. The rate is decreased exponentially with the aspect ratio for 2 $\leq$ Ar $\leq$ 10. Also, the rate is exponentially decreased with partial pressure of component B, P for 1 $\leq$ P $\leq$ 100 Torr.$ B/ $\leq$ 100 Torr.
The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effects of a commercial mixed extruded pellet(EP) and raw fish moist pellet(MP) diet on diseases prevalence and serological constituents and HSI of korean rockfish, Sebastes schlegeli grown in two commercial-scale aquaculture farms from June to December in 2009. The growth of MP-fed rockfish was slightly faster than EP-fed rockfish during experimental period, but did not show significant differences. The levels of TCHO, TG, Glucose and TP in the MP-fed rockfish group were higher than those of EP-fed group, whereas there was no significant difference in other biochemical factors of blood between two groups. In addition, bacteria and virus were not detected in both MP- and EP-fed rockfish groups, and the infection rates of gill fluke between two groups did not show clear difference. In conclusion, there was no comparable difference in growth and the health extents of one year rockfish by administration of the commercial mixed extruded pellet(EP) and raw fish moist pellet(MP) diets.
This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of applying levels of Bestamin, animal amino acid, on growth and quality of hot pepper and physicochemical properties of soil. Treatment was given with 200, 400, 800, 1600kg per 10a to control of Bestamin, difference of physicochemical properties was lower than Bestamin, and $P_2O_5$ seems to be reduced, also $K^+$, $Ca^{++}$ were obviously low compared to the control. The content of $NO_{3-}N$ was low compared to control at the Bestamin treated plot. Plant height was longest at 800 treatment and main stem length, main stem weigh and the number of leaves were significantly different with 400 and 800 treatment. No difference was found among the fruit weight, length, diameter in first harvest, but there was significantly different at control of 2nd, 3rd harvest and more increased than 400 and 800 treatment. Fruit weight per plant was the heaviest at 400 and 800 treatment, and the number of fruit was no difference at red pepper but increased with 400 and 800 at green pepper, and yield per 10a was significantly increased to 4503.6kg and 4582.5kg, respectively. Nitrogen in mesophyll accumulation content was obviously reduced at Bestamin treatment compared to control, and amino acid was reduced with control.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the body composition difference and obesity prevalence in grade 5 to 8 by gender. A total of 1,333 students, 707 boys and 631 girls, were recruited from one elementary and one middle school in Seoul, Korea. Anthropometric measurements including height, weight, lean body mass, and body fat were assessed. Height and weight were increased by grade, but Body Mass Index (BMI) by grade showed no significant difference among boys. Lean body mass had growth spurt between 7 and 8 grade among boys compared to gradual increase among girls. Overweight and obesity prevalence were higher among elementary schoolers than middle schoolers. Overweight (BMI for age> $85^{th}$ percentile) prevalence was about $44\%$ among $5^{th}$ grade boys compared $29\%$ among same grade girls. These results provided that there were prominent difference regarding body growth and obesity prevalence in gender and grade. Further studies for children and adolescents should be considered their body composition change.
A total of 144 pigs ((Landrace${\times}$Yorkshire)${\times}$Duroc)] with an average initial BW of $8.45{\pm}0.57$ kg were used in a 5-wk growth trial. Pigs were randomly allocated to 4 treatments with 9 replications per pen in a randomized complex block design. Dietary treatments included: i) CON (basal diet), ii) ANT (CON+tylosin 1 g/kg), iii) H1 (CON+H. cordata 1 g/kg) and iv) T1 (CON+T. officinale 1 g/kg). In this study, pigs fed the ANT and T1 treatment had a higher (p<0.05) average daily gain (ADG) and gain:feed (G:F) ratio than those fed CON and H1 treatment. Dietary ANT and T1 treatment led to a higher energy digestibility than the CON group. No difference (p>0.05) was observed on the growth performance and apparent total tract digestibility with H1 supplementation compared with the CON treatment. The inclusion of ANT treatment led to a higher (p<0.05) lymphocyte concentration compared with the CON treatment. Dietary supplementation of herbs did not affect (p>0.05) the blood characteristics (white blood cell (WBC), red blood cell (RBC), IgG, lymphocyte). No difference was observed on (p<0.05) fecal microbial shedding (E. coli and lactobacillus) between ANT and CON groups. Treatments H1 and T1 reduced the fecal E. coli concentration compared with the CON treatment, whereas the fecal lactobacillus concentration was not affected by the herb supplementation (p>0.05). In conclusion, the inclusion of T. officinale (1 g/kg) increased growth performance, feed efficiency, energy digestibility similarly to the antibiotic treatment. Dietary supplementation of T. officinale and H. cordata (1 g/kg) reduced the fecal E. coli concentration in weaning pigs.
