PURPOSE: This study examined the changes in the blood fatigue variables caused by isokinetic and isotonic exercise training. METHODS: Ten healthy adult males with at least one year of athletic experience participated. The participants performed the isokinetic circuit exercise program first, followed by an isotonic circuit exercise program. A two-hour break was allowed between the isokinetic circuit exercise program and the isotonic circuit exercise program. The circuit exercise program consisted of four items (Squat, Deadlift, Shoulder press, and Bench press). The blood samples were analyzed for the LDH, CPK, and Cortisol levels. RESULTS: The LDH level in the isokinetic group was significantly different from the isotonic group. In particular, the change in LDH level in the isokinetic group was 33.30% lower than that of the isotonic group. The serum CPK level of the isokinetic group showed a 10.03% lower decrease than the isotonic group, but the difference was not significant. The Cortisol level was relatively unchanged in the isotonic group, but it decreased in the isokinetic group. On the other hand, the Cortisol level did not show a significant difference between the two groups. CONCLUSION: The isokinetic group showed alleviation of the three indices, unlike the isotonic group. Further studies associated with the changes in blood fatigue variables through various exercise programs and exercise intensity will be needed.
The purpose of this study is to develop a group counseling program to improve the learning habits of the elementary school children who experience difficulties learning, because of their wrong learning habits. To achieve it, the sub-elements of learning habits are set by "learning motive & attitude" and "learning technique" A group counseling program composed of the essential factors suitable for each element are srhseqrently, devised to pursue the improvement of learning habits. The study propositions are set as follows: Can the group counseling program improve the learning habits of elementary school children? 1. Can the group counseling program improve the learning motive and attitude of elementary school children? 2. Can the group counseling program improve the learning technique of elementary school children? The subject of this study is the 4th graders of W elementary school located in Gwangju Metropolitan City. After selecting 12 pupils from low scorers after a learning habits test, Each 6 of those are randomly assigned to an experimental group and a control group, respectively. In this way, they are pcrticipate in the group counseling program. The group counseling program is consisted of 10 sessions. The program is implemented for six weeks with a 50 min duration per session. As a measuring tool, a restructured test with only motive variables and technique variables, excluding remaining variables, from the Learning Habits Test by Choi Jong-Ryul (1992) is used for pre and post tests. The results of the study is acquired by integrating the statistics from the test tool. Observation of the counselor and testees' thoughts are as follows: The group counseling program affects the sub-elements of learning habits positively, namely learning motive & attitude and learning technique. The program applied in this study is effective in improving the learning habits of the pupils with lower learning habits. Accordingly, this program can be one of the methods to develop effective learning habits, set efficient strategies and exert abilities maximally for the learners, who did not adequately exert their abilities, due to wrong learning habits, while ineffectively learning without knowing effective learning habits. To improve and maintain the learning habits of the elementary school pupils, overall understanding should be backed in order to precisely analyze and identify the learning habits of the pupils. Besides, an association between schools and homes is also needed along with parents' concerns over their children's learning habits at home.
Most efforts to improve tuberculosis treatment adherence target the patient and his or her behavior. This study examined the effects of behavioral modification training for these patients. Based on Bandura's behavioral principles of modeling, intervention strategies using a video program were devised to elicit specific patient target behaviors considered to improve patients' adherence to tuberculosis treatment regimens. A random assignment, two-group(experimental group and control group) research design including 81 subjects was used. The main outcomes measured were pill taking measured with the Medication Event Monitoring System(MEMS) Medication Cap, patients' self-efficacy, and their knowledge of tuberculosis. The findings are as follows : 1) There was a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in patients' feelings of self-efficacy. That is, the patients who received the behavior modification program showed greater feeling of self-efficacy to initiate and change their behavior for the tuberculosis treatment regimen than the patients who did not receive the program(t=3.51, p=0.01). 2) There was a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in patients' knowledge of tuberculosis. That is, the patients who received the behavior modification program showed higher level of knowledge of tuberculosis than the patients who did not receive the program(t=2.15, p=0.03) 3) There was a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in patients' adherence to tuberculosis treatment regimens. That is, the patients who received the behavior modification program showed greater adherence to the treatment regimens than the patients who did not receive the program(t=5.11, p=0.00). The study findings provided useful insights into nursing practice, particularly in planning intervention strategies aimed at enhancing patients' adherence in tuberculosis that may also be relevant to other chronic diseases with patient adherence problems.
Purpose: To examine the effect of the solution-focused group counseling program on the nursing students' problem-solving capacity. Methods: The research design was one-group pretest-posttest design in quasi-experimental research. The subjects were 16 sophomore nursing students being in K university located in D city, Korea. The period of this research was from January 9 to February 20, 2002, from January 10 to February 21, 2003. The group counseling program that was developed by Kim, Hyeon Mi (2001) on the basis of the fundamental principles of solution-focused therapy of de Shazer, et al. (1986) and the solution-focused group counseling process proposed by Selekman (1991), LaFountain, et al. (1996) and Metcalf (1998) was used after being modified and complemented for the nursing students. The group counseling was carried out six times for 120 minutes per week. The instruments used for this study were the Problem Solving Inventory developed by Heppner and Petersen (1982) and Scaling question. Collected data were analyzed by paired t-test with SPSS program. Results: 1) Problem solving capacity increased after solution-focused group counseling program, but a significant difference was not revealed(t=0.835, p=0.057). 2) The scores of self-confidence with the problem-solving were significantly increased when it was compared with the 1st and the 6th(t=3.587, p=0.001). Conclusion: It seems that the solution-focused group counseling program should be considered as an effective nursing intervention program for the nursing students by improving self-confidence with the problem-solving. As a results, this study suggests that the specific techniques used in the solution focused therapy should be applied actively in areas of counseling and communication training for the nursing students and nurses.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of home care exercise program on knee joint function(WOMAC) and the quality of life in patient with total knee replacement arthroplasty. Method: Forty-one subjects were sampled according to research criteria, and divided into two groups : 21 out of experimental group and 20 out of control group. The patients having treatment of total knee replacement arthroplasty were out of the hospital. After surgery executed, it took 8days for them to recovere their health conditions since 10th day, the experimental group received the home care exercise program per regularly four days interval. Results: 1) After applying home care exercise program, the total score on the WOMAC Index for the control group was $3.09{\pm}.76$. The score of the experimental group was $3.55{\pm}.55$ which is statistically higher than that of the control group. (P=.007). 2) After applying home care exercise program, the score of the quality of life for the control group was $3.09{\pm}.50$. The score of the experimental group was $3.46{\pm}.35$ Which is statistically higher than that of the control group. (P=.007). Conclusion: This figures show that home care exercise program has good results. These findings also indicate that the services of home care exercise program are alternatives for the hospitalization.
Purpose : This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a sea breeze walking program by analyzing the metabolic disease-related, immune-inflammation-related, and respiratory health-related variables of the test subjects associated with improved respiratory health. Methods : In the experiment, 30 patients with metabolic diseases were divided into an experimental group (n=15) and a control group (n=15). The experimental group walked on the Namparang-gil, Geoje trail, while the control group walked on the Hoeya-cheon, Yangsan trail. Both groups participated in the same walking program for two hours, twice a week for four weeks. Thereafter, the metabolic disease-related, immune inflammation-related, and respiratory health-related variables were measured and compared between the two groups. Results : After the four-week sea breeze walking program, in terms of changes in the metabolic disease-related variable, a statistically significant interactive effect was found in waist circumference (p<.001). The experimental group showed a significant decrease in waist circumference after the program. After the four-week sea breeze walking program, the control group showed a statistically higher increase in lactic acid (p.<05), whereas the experimental group exhibited a decrease in lactic acid. For the respiratory health-related variables, no statistically significant differences were found after the sea breeze walking program. However, the experimental group showed an increase in FEV1,while the control group showed a decrease in FEV1. For the maximum oxygen intake, no statistically significant interactive differences were found but there was a statistically significant effect in time (p<.05). The two groups exhibited an increase in maximum oxygen intake. Conclusion : After the sea breeze walking program, positive physical changes were observed in the metabolic disease-related and immune inflammation-related variables.
본 연구의 목적은 숲 환경을 이용한 주요우울장애의 정신사회적 치료 프로그램을 개발하여, 그 효과를 대조군 비교 연구를 통해 확인하는 것이다. 정신과 전문의에 의해 주요우울장애로 진단 받고 현재 정신과 외래에서 항우울제 약물치료 중인 사람들이 연구에 참여하였다. 이들은 각각 네 집단으로 나뉘어 세 집단은 각각 산림에서 시행한 치유 프로그램, 병원에서 시행한 치유 프로그램, 단순 산림욕에 참여하였고, 나머지 한 집단은 프로그램을 시행하지 않고 일반 진료만 받은 대조군이었다. 이들은 모두 프로그램 전후의 우울증상 변화, 생리적 지표 변화를 관찰하기 위해 Hamilton Rating Scales for Depression(HRSD), Montgomery-Asberg Depressin Rating Scales(MADRS), Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), Short Form Health Survey Questionnaire(SF-36), Heart Rate Variability(HRV)검사를 받았다. 연구 결과, 산림치유 프로그램 집단의 HRSD 점수가 대조군에 비해 유의하게 감소하였고, MADRS 점수는 산림치유 프로그램 집단, 병원 프로그램 집단이 대조군에 비해서 유의미한 호전을 보였다. HRSD 7점 이하로 정의되는 관해율은 산림치유 프로그램 집단이 가장 높았다. 또한 SF-36결과, 산림치유 프로그램 집단에서만 건강 상태와 관련된 삶의 질 수준이 유의미하게 증가하였고, Heart Rate Variability(HRV)에서도 생리적 이완감을 나타내는 HF가 유의하게 높아지는 결과를 보였다. 이 결과를 통하여 산림환경을 이용한 심리치료 프로그램을 외래 치료 중인 우울증 환자에게 적용했을 때 우울증 증상 개선에 도움이 됨을 알 수 있었다. 또한 통계적으로 유의하진 않지만, 우울증상 감소와 관해율에 있어서 산림치유 프로그램 집단, 병원 프로그램 집단, 산림욕 집단, 대조군 순으로 좋은 결과를 보였다.
The purpose of this study was to test the emotional intelligence development program and to verify the effects of the emotional intelligence development program for the increase of emotional intelligence and school life adaptation in elementary school students of single parent family To verify the previous hypotheses, 16 children of single parent family(experimental group I : n=8, control group 1 : n=8) and 16 children of two parent family(experimental group II : n=8, control group II : n=8) were selected at random, which are a total of high-grade students from P elementary school in J city, Jeon-buk province. Disposal about experimental group executed the emotional intelligence development program for the humanity education of Moon - yong - lin(1999) and the emotional intelligence development program which was reconstructed guidance for elementary school children of Her - seung - hee (2004) as the level of elementary school for 50 minutes, 16times, twice a week. In order to verify the effects after experiment, 1 collected materials for estimation by providing the subject children with questionaries about emotional intelligence and the ability of school life adaptation before and after the experiment, and then analyzed the average differences in number of marks between the experiment group and the control group before and after the experiment through and by using One-Way ANOVA, and SPSS WIN 12.0 program. The results of the study were as follows : First, there was significant increase between experimental group and control group received the emotional intelligence development program on emotional intelligence in statistic data(p<.01). Second, there was significant increase between experimental group and control group received the emotional intelligence development program on the school life adaptation in statistic data(p<.001). Third, there was no significant difference between the single parent family's children and the two parent family's children of the experimental group received the emotional Intelligence development program on the emotional intelligence and the ability of school life adaptation(p>.05). But single parent family's children were higher significant increase than two parent family's children on the relationship with teacher(<.01). The results obtained in this study indicated that the emotional intelligence development program was effective on the emotional intelligence and the ability of school life adaptation. Also, these showed that this program helps the school life adaptation and positive relationship with teacher of single parent family's children.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to develop the children obesity prevention program and to analyze how this program has an effect on students' degree of knowledge, attitude for obesity prevention. Methods: The study design was Compromise Experience Group Pre-Post Design. 238 students in the 4th and 5th grade of 4 elementary schools in Seoul were nonrandomly assigned to the study group(n=115) or the control group(n=113). The Program was applied for 3 times and surveys were conducted 2 times as pre-test and post-test. Results: 1. The obesity prevention CD-ROM was developed by analyzing of learners and educational facilities, selecting the study object and contents and producing educational methods and materials. The study contents were included definition, types, factors and side-effects of obesity, and It was contained dietary habit, exercise and life style for obesity prevention and healthy life. 2. Demographic characteristics were not significantly different between study group and control group. Among the subjects investigated, 27.8% of the study group and 38.1% of the control group stated that they had experienced in the obesity prevention program in past. 3. The obesity knowledge and attitude score after this obesity prevention program were improved significantly than before the program(P<0.001). Conclusion: The CD-ROM developed in this study for the children obesity prevention program was proven to be effective in improving obesity knowledge, attitude for the obesity prevention.

Objectives : This study was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of 'village health worker training program' which aimed to build community participatory health promotion capacity of community leaders in villages of low developed country and to develop methods for further development of the program. Methods : The intervention group were 134 community leaders from 25 barangays (village). Control group were 149 form 4 barangays. Intervention group participated 3-day training program. Questionnaire was developed based on 'Health Promotion Capacity Checklist' which assessed capacity in 4 feathers; 'knowledge', 'skill', 'commitment', and 'resource'. Each feather was assessed in 4 point rating scale. Capacity scores between intervention group and control group were examined to identify changes between the pre- and post-intervention periods. A qualitative evaluation of the program was conducted to assess the appropriateness of the program. The program was conducted in Tuguegarao city, Philippine in January, 2009. Results : The result showed significant increases in the total health promotion capacity and each feather of health promotion capacities between pre and post assessment of intervention group. But there was no significant change in that of control group. Participants marked high level of satisfaction for preparedness, selection of main subjects and education method. Qualitative evaluation revealed that training program facilitated community participatory health promotion capacity of participants. Conclusions : This study suggested that the Village health worker training program is effective for building health promotion capacity of community leaders and it can be a main method for helping low developed countries with further development.
