  • This study is designed to develop a hospital communication program and to verify its effectiveness in graduate nurses self-esteem, communication conflicts, turnover intention and early resignation rate. The study method is a randomized control group with a pre-post test design. In order to help new graduate nurses adapt to the hospital, eight week hospital communication program is developed. The study participants are 104 nurses(47 experiment, 57 control) who have been working for less than six months. The data on self-esteem, communication conflict, and turnover intention was collected one week before the program and four weeks after the program. Then, the early resignation rate of the participating nurses was surveyed one year after the start of employment. The nurses who participated in the hospital communication program exhibit higher self-esteem, fewer communication conflicts, and lower early resignation rates than those who did not. • The purpose of this study is to develop appropriate science teaching models which can be applied effectively to relevant situations. Five science teaching models; cognitive conflict teaching models, generative teaching model, learning cycle teaching model, hypothesis verification teaching model and discovery teaching model, were identified from the existing models. The teaching models were modified and in primary and secondary students using a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Major findings of this study were as follows: 1. For teaching science concepts, three teaching models were found more effective; cognitive conflict teaching model, generative teaching model and discovery teaching model. 2. For teaching inquiry skills, two teaching models were found more effective; learning cycle teaching model and hypothesis verification teaching model. 3. For teaching scientific attitudes, two teaching models were found more effective; learning cycle teaching models and discovery teaching model. Each teaching model requires specific learning environment. It is strongly suggested that teachers should select a suitable teaching model carefully after evaluating the learning environment including teacher and student variables, learning objectives and curricular materials.

  • Objectives: The aims of this study were to analyze the job stress of clinical hygienists according to their positional system and to confirm its relevance. Methods: Seven hundred seventy six clinical dental hygienists participated in this survey. The questionnaire items consisted of general characteristics, working environment, and job stress. The data analysis was performed using IBM SPSS statistics ver.23.0 software. Results: Among the job stresses, the stress on the job demands was the highest with 63.4 points, and the stress on interpersonal conflict was the lowest with 34.6 points. The total score of job stress was the highest in the 26-30 year-old age group, and major stress factors in this group were job insecurity, organizational system, and lack of reward. Team members were more stressful about insufficient job control, organizational system, and lack of reward than team managers, while team managers were more likely to score interpersonal conflict. The dental hygienists in the hospitals that did not have the positional system got more stressed in the insufficient job control, organizational system, and lack of reward area. Conclusions: The presence of positional system was related to job demand, insufficient job control, organizational system, and lack of reward. Structural efforts such as establishing a proper positional system in dental clinics will be needed to control job stress in the clinical dental hygienists.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine retirees' attitudes towards change of living standards. The data were drawn from the 2007 Korean Retiree Survey, as carried out by the Korean Investors Education Foundation. The major findings are as follows: 1) Some retirees were not well-prepared for retirement, i.e., they lacked financial consultation, had low personal financial literacy, and lacked sufficient wealth. Retirees suffered from health difficulties, loneliness or a sense of alienation, family conflict, or lack of pastimes. 2) Certain groups recognized the change of living standards for retirees as either positive or negative. Retirees who recognized the change of living standards as negative were not well-prepared for retirement, had low personal financial literacy, and lacked sufficient wealth. They also suffered from health difficulties, loneliness or a sense of alienation, family conflict, or lack of pastimes. 3) There was a strong probability for the negative recognition group not to be well-prepared for retirement, having low personal financial literacy, and lacking in sufficient wealth. There was a strong probability for the negative recognition group to suffer from health difficulties or lack of pastimes. Based on these findings, this research suggests that retirees should prepare for retirement with a positive attitude.

  • Recently, the intercultural approach, which aims to resolve social conflicts in multicultural societies through cultural encounters and dialogue, has been actively discussed. Intercultural education aims to foster smooth relationships and improve communication skills through interactions among various cultural groups. Analysis of previous studies has revealed the need for research on intercultural civic education programs targeted at adults. Therefore, this study was designed to develop an intercultural citizenship education program and to analyze its effects. For the study, previous research on interculturalism, intercultural citizenship education, and intercultural citizenship education programs was comprehensively analyzed. The developed intercultural citizenship education program was categorized into five major themes: understanding oneself and others, racism and hate speech, overcoming conflict and discrimination, breaking away from prejudice and stereotypes, and the future of our country. Subsequently, the program was implemented with 64 total second-year middle school students, 37 in the experimental group, and 27 in the control group, at an accredited lifelong educational institution in M City, South Jeolla Province. To analyze the effects of the education, an intercultural competency scale was used. The results showed that the intercultural citizenship education program for adult students was effective in conflict management, respect, communication, and reflection competencies, all at a statistically significant level. Finally, the authors compared the study results with previous research and discussed the findings. Findings indicated the necessity of enhancing multicultural citizenship awareness among adults and expanding teacher training in intercultural education. The program effectively improved intercultural competence among adult students, highlighting the importance of tailored educational content and active participation in discussions. Future research should ensure a balanced gender ratio among participants.

  • Recently, with the MZ generation's entry into society and the social participation of the female population, conflicts are occurring between workplace groups that value WLB and existing groups that emphasize collaboration due to differences in work orientation. Public institutions and companies that utilize work-life balance support systems show differences in job Commitment depending on the nature of the work and the activation of the support system. Accordingly, it is necessary to verify the effectiveness of the WLB support system actually operated by the company and present universally valid standards. The purpose of this study is, first, to verify the effectiveness of the support system for work-life balance and to find practical consensus amid changes in policies and perceptions of the working environment. Second, the influence of work-life balance level and job immersion according to work characteristics was analyzed to verify the mutual influence in order to establish standards for WLB operation that reflects work characteristics. For the study, a 2X2 matrix model was used to analyze the impact of work-life balance and work characteristics on job commitment, and four hypotheses were established. First, analysis of the job involvement level of conflict-type group members, second, analysis of the job involvement level of leading group members, third, analysis of the job involvement level of agreeable group members, and fourth, analysis of the job involvement level of cooperative group members. To conduct this study, an online survey was conducted targeting employees working in public institutions and large corporations. The survey was conducted for a total of 9 days from October 23 to 31, 2023, and 163 people responded, and the analysis was based on a valid sample of 152 people, excluding 11 copies that were insincere responses or gave up midway. As a result of the study's hypothesis testing, first, the conflict type group was found to have the lowest level of job engagement at 1.43. Second, the proactive group showed the highest level of job engagement at 4.54. Third, the conformity group showed a slightly lower level of job involvement at 2.58. Fourth, the cooperative group showed a slightly higher level of job involvement at 3.80. The academic implications of the study are that it subdivides employees' personalities into factors based on the level of work-life balance and nature of work. The practical implications of the study are that it analyzes the effectiveness of WLB support systems operated by public institutions and large corporations by grouping them.
