Ferrule is widely used as fiber optic connecters. In fiber-optic communications. the shape accuracy such as coaxiality and cylindricity of ferrule affects insertion loss. When coaxial grinding of ferrule supported by two pin. pin alignment and chucking accuracy are very important. In this research, the kinematic behavior of the ferrule centers are investigated in the case where the ferrule is chucked with the cone-shaped center pins and bail centers, With homogeneous coordinate transformation and numerical analysis, the obtained results are as follows: In the case of cone-type center, the alignment errors between center pins alone do not affect the rotation accuracy of ferrule. The alignment errors between center holes cause sinusoidal displacement of ferrule. And the maximum displacement of ferrule centers is proportional to the center pin angle. In the case of ball-type center, the displacements of ferrule centers has similar pattern as cone-type center, and the alignment errors art proportional to ball diameters.

In this paper, the algorithm to determine the optimal condition of traverse grinding is proposed by using differential evolution algorithm(DEA). The cost function to determine the optimal grinding condition is designed with considering process cost, production rate, surface roughness. Also, the constraint conditions for grinding such as thermal damage effect, machine tool stiffness, wear parameter of grinding wheel, surface roughness are considered. The algorithm is implemented with LabView software which is widely used at the industrial field. The performance of proposed algorithm is verified by comparing with the result of genetic algorithm(GA) through computer simulation.

A computer simulation model for investigating a two-dimensional (2-D) rounding mechanism in a centerless grinding process is described. This model includes the interference phenomena and the concept of machining elasticity. Since initial contact points are used as a reference, the result of this simulation is not affected by the location of the reference circle center and the radius of the reference circle. Also, details of the machining factor are studied by using process variables (grinding wheel speed, wheel specification, workpiece speed, dressing condition, etc.). The effect of the threshold grinding force on the size of ground workpiece is investigated. For the verification of this method, simulation results are compared with the experimental work.

We tried to improve the $H_2$-sorption properties of Mg by mechanical grinding under $H_2$ (reactive grinding) with CoO. The sample Mg+10wt.%CoO as prepared absorbs 1.25wt.% hydrogen and the activated sample absorbs 2.39wt.% hydrogen for 60min at 598K, $11.2barH_2$. The reactive grinding of Mg with CoO increases the $H_2$-sorption rates by facilitating nueleation(by creating defects on the surface of the Mg particles and by the additive), by making cracks on the surface of Mg particles and reducing the particle size of Mg and thus by shortening the diffusion distances of hydrogen atoms. Hydriding-dehydriding cycling increases the $H_2$-sorption rates by making cracks on the surface of Mg particles and reducing the particle size of Mg.

This paper describes the effects of thermal deformation in electromagnetic chuck on the grinding accuracy. Gringing process is the last machining process and decisive in saving past other machining cost. The thermal deformation of grinding machine is unavoidable and affect seriously ginding accuracy. The thermaldeformation of electromagnetic chuck is one of important thermal problems. Heat generation of magnetic chuck is analyzed and measured. The temperature disturibution in chuck is elliptical form with high temperature in center of chuck. The thermal deformation form of chuck is changed with time to mountain form. The grinding experiment shows that the thermal deformation of magnetic chuck influence strongly machining accuracy as much as the headstock

This paper proposed the optimal algorithm of grinding system and the method to realize it. The optimal function was proposed in order to design the optimal grinding process. DE(Differential Evolution) algorithm was used to obtain the selective optimal function. The realization of algorithm was implemented by LabView software used widely at industrial field and the proposed algorithm was verified for through computer simulation. The result of the proposed algorithm can be used for the guide line of the grinding process.

Esthetic dentistry has been developed through the diverse material and technique. Approach and interest in esthetic of anteriors was driven by needs and wants of patients. Alpha and omega of esthetics is determined by patients, as Charles Pincus who is the pioneer of esthetic dentistry described in his article 1967. To meet with wants and needs of patients, dentists suggest possible various treatment options. Cosmetic grinding quoted by Pincus is one of the conservative approaches and provide effective esthetic improvement with minimal invasive concepts. In a high technology era, cosmetic grinding needs to be revisited. Review of some clinical cases shows the value and limitation of it.

Grinding process is executed in the final machining stage to meet the quality requirements. In generally the ground surface of workpiece is affected by dressing condition as well as grinding condition. In order to estimate the roughness of workpiece, the several roughness models have been researched. These models defined the specific parameters and considered the several parameters which affect to roughness as multiply relationship among them. However, the multiply relationship among parameters is not enough to show the complicated grinding mechanism. Therefore, the neural network algorithm is used in this paper to predict the ground roughness for the plunge grinding. The proposed structure is composed of the initial roughness as well as final roughness model. The input parameters of proposed neural network are referred with the existing roughness model's. The performance of the proposed model is verified through experiments.

$MgH_2$ was employed as a starting material instead of Mg in this work. A sample with a composition of 94 wt% $MgH_2-6$ wt% Ni (called $MgH_2-6Ni$) was prepared by reactive mechanical grinding. The hydriding and dehydriding properties were then examined. An $MgH_2-Ni$ hydrogen storage alloy that does not require an activation process was developed. The alloy was prepared in a planetary ball mill by grinding for 4 h at a ball disc revolution speed of 250 rpm under a hydrogen pressure of about 12 bar. The sample absorbed 3.74 wt% H for 5 min, 4.07 wt% H for 10 min, and 4.41 wt% H for 60 min at 573 K under 12 bar $H_2$, and desorbed 0.93 wt% H for 10 min, 1.99 wt% H for 30 min, and 3.16 wt% H for 60 min at 573 K under 1.0 bar $H_2$. $MgH_2-6Ni$ after reactive mechanical grinding contained ${\beta}-MgH_2$ (a room temperature form of $MgH_2$), Ni, ${\gamma}-MgH_2$ (a high pressure form of $MgH_2$), and a very small amount of MgO. Reactive mechanical grinding of Mg with Ni is considered to facilitate nucleation, and to reduce the particle size of Mg. $Mg_2Ni$ formed during reactive mechanical grinding also increases the hydriding and dehydriding rates of the sample.

An immiscible Si/Sn (=7/3 by volume) powder mixture was subjected to simple grinding and subsequent leaching process to give Sn nanopowder reinforced or dispersed in Si powder. Crystallite and their agglomerates of Si were ca. 15 nm and 100 nm, respectively. Sn remained at 4.5 vol% in Si powder after aqueous HCl leaching, dispersively occluded in Si matrix as confirmed by ICP analysis and cross sectional TEM observation.
