  • The increased demand for conventional energy sources, and international oil price rises are driving societies toward research and development of renewable energy. A large number of their installations and penetrations will bring an instability distribution power system. Also, load concentration problem at specific time can cause the shortage of power reserve margin. To deal with these problems, the development of energy storage systems (ESS) is required. This paper proposes the 1MW grid-connected ESS with Li-ion battery and power conditioning system (PCS). The performances of the 1MW grid-connected ESS are evaluated and verified with the PSCAD/EMTDC based simulation test.

  • As the maximum power operating point(MPOP) of photovoltaic(PV) power systems alters with changing atmospheric conditions, the efficiency of maximum power point tracking(MPPT) is important in PV power systems. Moreover, grid-connected PV system occurs some problems such as voltage inequality and harmonics. Therefore, this paper presents the results of a grid-connected PV system modeling by PSIM simulator and investigates the influence on the grid-connected PV system from aspect of power quality, i.e. voltage drop. This paper includes four MPPT algorithms; Perturbation & Observation(P&O), Improved P&O, Increment Conductance(Incond), Hysterisis simulated with irradiation changing.

  • This paper proposes a performance improvement of grid-connected inverter system using sliding-mode based direct power control with a variable gain. The proposed control method determine variable gain of PI controller by using modeling at direct power control (DPC) applied to space vector modulation method. Also, this method use sliding-mode control to maintain excellent dynamic response of character of direct power control (DPC). The validity of the proposed algorithm are verified by simulations and experiments.

  • This paper proposes a method of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) using fuzzy logic control for grid-connected photovoltaic systems (PV). First, for the purpose of comparison, because of its proven and good performances, the incremental conductance (IncCond) technique is briefly introduced. A double fuzzy logic controller (DFLC) based MPPT is then proposed which has shown better performances compared to the IncCond MPPT based approach. Modeling and Simulation in grid-connected PV system results are provided for both controllers under same atmospheric condition based PSCAD/EMTDC. The double fuzzy logic MPPT controller is then simulated and evaluated, which has shown better performances.

  • Predictive current control offers the potential for achieving more precise current control with a minimum of distortion and harmonic noise. However, the predictive method is difficult to implement and has a greater computational burden. This paper introduces a theoretical analysis and experimental verification for an improved predictive current control technique applied to single phase grid connected voltage source inverters (VSI). The proposed technique has simple calculations. An ATmega1280 microcontroller board is used to implement the proposed technique for a simpler and cheaper control system. To enhance the current performance and to obtain a minimum of current THD, an improved tri-level PWM switching strategy is proposed. The proposed switching strategy uses six operation modes instead of four as in the traditional strategy. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the system performance with the improved switching strategy and its effect on current performance. The presented experimental results verify that the proposed technique can be implemented using fixed point 8-bit microcontroller to obtain excellent results.

  • In this paper, an active damping control scheme for LLCL filters based on the PR (proportional-resonant) regulator is proposed for grid-connected three-level T-type PWM converter systems. The PR controller gives an infinite gain at the resonance frequency. As a result, the oscillation can be suppressed at that frequency. In order to improve the stability of the system in the case of grid impedance variations, online grid impedance estimation is applied. Simulation and experimental results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed scheme for three-phase T-type AC/DC PWM converters.
