  • Recently, rainwater has come to the forefront as an alternative resource contributing to solving various environmental problems, especially those related to water. However, more or less biased perspectives on rainwater as a pollutant, mainly derived from acid rain, have still been pervasive in public as well as research communities. Considering the significance of rain harvesting in recent society, it is necessary to promote educational efforts to overcome such social prejudices and improve desired values towards rainwater. Thus, this research attempted to develop a teaching-learning program focusing on the theme of rainwater for high school students in Korea. To verify the effectiveness of the program, one group pre/post testing was conducted with 57 students participating in the courses. According to the survey, students show significant differences in both awareness and attitude towards rainwater as well as water after the courses. In conclusion, this study has an implication on developing an effective educational way to improve students' positive recognitions and attitudes regarding rainwater-related issues. Such an educational effort might contribute to sharing the worthiness of preserving rainwater with the future generation and promoting rainwater harvesting within wider public participation.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify healthy family educational need and life satisfaction of middle school students and their parents. The data for the analysis were collected from 674 middle school students and 597 their parents living in Seoul using the structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA with Duncan test, and Pearson' correlation analysis were used to examine the data. The results indicated that the need for healthy family education of the middle school students was high. The students were interested in consumer economics and friend relationship, whereas their parents were interested in consumer economics and family relationship. Some of the demographic variables, such as gender, living area, and the amount of allowance, were the variables affecting the educational needs of students. There were relatively high correlation between healthy family educational need and life satisfaction, so educators should provide the healthy family education program to improve students' life satisfaction.

  • Novel diphenylphenanthrenes (DPPs) were prepared by a photocyclization method, and the substituent effects of the phenyl groups on the photophysical properties of the phenanthrene chromophore were investigated based on measurements of fluorescence yields, lifetimes, and transient absorption. Fluorescence activities in DPPs are increased by introducing phenyl rings that can enhance the transition moment along the short axis of the phenanthrene skeleton. Intersystem crossing from the fluorescent states to the triplet manifolds is shown to be operative through the triplet-triplet absorption spectra obtained by laser photolysis techniques.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an infographic-based STEAM program for high school students and test its effectiveness. In this study, we converged high school 'art' education with 'Korean language' and 'mathematics.' The program was divided into four phases. The effectiveness of the program was analyzed by conducting matched pair t-test for 377 students at a girl's high school in Seoul before and after the program. The study found that the students' self-concept on mathematics and their attitude towards choosing science and engineering career showed significant increases after the program. By connecting high school courses through data visualization based on cognitive information design, findings from this study suggest that our infographic-based STEAM program should be implemented more frequently at high schools.

  • Background: We aimed to investigate the prevalence of low back pain (LBP) and its associated agricultural work-related, biomechanical factors among this population. Methods: We analyzed initial survey data from the Safety for Agricultural Injury of Farmers cohort study involving adult farmers in Jeju Island. The prevalence of LBP was calculated with associated factors. Results: In total, 1,209 participants were included in the analysis. The overall prevalence of LBP was 23.7%. Significant associations for LBP were the type of farming activity, length of farming career, prior agricultural injury within 1 year, and stress levels. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed three biomechanical factors significantly related to LBP: repetitive use of particular body parts; the inappropriate posture of the lower back and neck. Conclusions: Some occupational, and biomechanical risk factors contribute to LBP. Therefore, postural education, injury prevention education, and psychological support will be needed to prevent LBP.

  • This study explores the factors influencing student emotions within art education courses, thereby enhancing the art education curriculum and promoting its development. It is conducted at comprehensive arts university located in China, with a total of 253 undergraduate and graduate students as participants. For data collection, participants in actual experiences conducted a closed-ended questionnaire focusing on the emotional impact of school- and teacher-related factors. The study ultimately demonstrated a positive correlation between assumed factors and students' emotional changes. The conclusion unequivocally demonstrates that improvements in external factors such as schools and teachers will positively affect students' emotions. These findings contribute significant educational value to promoting arts education and fostering a civilized society.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an evaluation method for online design education. Online education has established itself as the primary form in the educational field, however, there are unsatisfactory response from instructors and students due to rapid conversion of online education. Due to the transition of educational method, online class contents have become optimized and online educational experiences became accumulated. However, clear education criteria is essential. This study states importance of two parts: establishing an evaluation system based on design thinking for online design education and finding appropriate online platforms for interaction between instructors and students. The research results provide implications for ensuring the efficiency of design education and are expected to contribute significantly to the future education field.

  • In this study, we tried to understand the effect and satisfaction of education perception on beauty education and its effect on Intention to Retrain, and to understand the correlation between each intention among students participating in after-school beauty education programs of beauty specialized high schools. According to the survey, those surveyed chose after-school beauty programs because they were likely to have the right interest and aptitude, and confirmed positive responses that after-school beauty education reduced the burden of private education. In addition, the correlation between the recognition and effectiveness of beauty education, satisfaction level and retraining level of those surveyed was confirmed. Based on this data in the future, it is believed that effective operation of the after-school beauty education program will be needed to enhance the quality and satisfaction of beauty education.

  • Objectives : This study was did a meta-analysis of emergency room visits decreased effectiveness of self management education interventions in asthma among adult patients with asthma. Methods : A search of the database PubMed resulted in identifying 8,619 studies done between January 1990 and November 2012. STATA version 10.0 was used to analyze the effect size, explore possible causes of heterogeneity, and determine publication bias with a funnel plot. Results : We included 7 cases on emergency room visits decreased effectiveness of self management and education. Asthmatic patients experienced fewer attacks (summary effect size, 0.75; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.65-0.95). We found that emergency room visits decreased effectiveness of self management and education were associated with statistically significant effects. Conclusions : Based on these finding, self management and education on interventions are necessary to prevent asthmatic attacks in patients and to reduce the severity of the attacks, and self management and education programs are needed in Korea.
