This study pursued to find out the degree to which educational objectives are pursued in the 3rd and 5th grade science instructional of an elementary school. Twenty science instruional hours are observed during two month from May to July, 1989. Klopfer's science educational objectives system is used as the tool of objective analysis. Questionnaires for the ideal proportions of the educational objectives are answered by the professors and elementary school teachers. The writers regarded those results as the ideal proportions of the educational objectives. Results from the analysis of the instruction are as follows : 1. Results from analysis of the instruction in the third grade are as follows : knowledge and comprehension (A. 0) objectives are found to be pursued. about 40%. scientific inquiry process(B. 0-E. 0) objectives, about 29%, application of scientific knowledge and methods(F. 0) objectives. about 10%, manual skills(G. 0) objectives, about 11%, scientific attitudes and interests(H. 0) objectives, about 10% and orientation(I. 0) objectives is not pursued. 2. Results from analysis of the instruction in the fifth grade are as follows: knowledge and comprehension(A. 0) objectives are found to be pursued. about 31%, scientific inquiry process (B. 0-E. 0) objectives. about 38%, application of scientific knowledge and methods (F. 0) objectives, about 13%, manual skills(G. 0) objectives, about 7%, scientific attitudes and interests(H. 0) objectives, about 10%. 3. Results from the ideal proportions are as follows : Knowledge and comprehension(A. 0) objectives, 20.5%, scientific inquiry process(B. 0-E. 0) objectives, 46.5%, application of scientific knowledge and methods(F. 0) objectives. 8%, manual skills(G. 0) objectives. 9.5%, scientific attitudes and interests (H. 0) objectives, 9% and orientation(I. 0) objectives, 6.5%. 4. "You ideality index" is 29 in the third grade and 23 in the fifth grade. Science instruction of the fifth grade can be interpreted to be nearer to the ideal instruction in terms of educational objectives.
The purpose of this study is to offer basic data on sex education for middle and high school students through content analysis of sex education subjects. The objects of this study were sex related subjects in the 7th grade curriculum and sex education guide books. The results were as follows: According to the results of analyzing sex education topics classified by grade, the 7th grade accounted for 35.2% of total topics, the 8th grade 2.9%, the 9th grade 2.9%, and the 10th grade 32.3%, the result of analyzing sex education topics classified by subject, showed 76.4% of total topics in sex education guide book, 29.4% were technique and domestic subjects, 20.5% were physical subjects, 17.6% were moral subjects, 8.8% were science subjects, 2.9% were society subjects. The domains which were chiefly concerned in sex education curricula for middle school students were "Human Development", "Relationship", and "Sexual Health". On the other hand, the domains which were mainly concerned with sex education curricula for high school students were "Relationship", "Sexual Behavior" and "Sexual Health". Most sex education subjects provided less instruction concerning "Personal Skills" and "Sexual Behavior" than other domains. The suggestion according to the results were as follows: It is desirable to teach sex education as an integrated subject. Especially, sex education should be a part of a comprehensive school health education program. Because this study focused on analyzing materials for teachers, further research is recommended to analyze sex education materials for students.
One of the biggest changes in the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum is shifting to the second year of middle school in Pythagorean theorem. In this study, the following subjects were studied. First, Pythagoras theorem analyzed the expected problems caused by the shift to the second year middle school. Secondly, we have researched the reconstruction method to solve these problems. The results of this study are as follows. First, there are many different ways to deal with Pythagorean theorem in many countries around the world. In most countries, it was dealt with in 7th grade, but Japan was dealing with 9th grade, and the United States was dealing with 7th, 8th and 9th grade. Second, we derived meaningful implications for the curriculum of Korea from various cases of various countries. The first implication is that the Pythagorean theorem is a content element that can be learned anywhere in the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade. Second, there is one prerequisite before learning Pythagorean theorem, which is learning about the square root. Third, the square roots must be learned before learning Pythagorean theorem. Optimal positions are to be placed in the eighth grade 'rational and cyclic minority' unit. Third, Pythagorean theorem itself is important, but its use is more important. The achievement criteria for the use of Pythagorean theorem should not be erased. In the 9th grade 'Numbers and Calculations' unit, after learning arithmetic calculations including square roots, we propose to reconstruct the square root and the utilization subfields of Pythagorean theorem.
The survey was conducted to investigate the relation between slaughter inspection results and the quality of cattle carcasses by inquiring animal products grading service results of Korea Institute for Animal Products Quality Evaluation (KAPE) about partial-disposed cattle carcasses after dismantling inspection. Of the 13,586 slaughtered cattle, 1,343 (9.9%) cattle heads were partially disposed from January to August, 2012 at slaughterhouses in Gwangju area, Korea. Of the 1,343 partial disposed cattle, 613 (45.6%) cattle carcasses were graded into above "Grade 1". Among partially disposed 1,171 Hanwoo heads, 613 (52.3%) cattle carcasses were graded into above "Grade 1". However, none of dairy and beef cattle carcasses were graded into above "Grade 1" out of 163 and 9 partial disposals, respectively. Of the 221 partial disposals by enteric fat necrosis, 139 carcasses were graded into above "Grade 1", and the ratio; 62.9% (P=0.001), was higher than that (50.3%) of total cattle carcass grade which is above "Grade 1". From these results, it is suggested that quality of cattle carcasses which is mainly determined by marbling might be related to the fatty lesions such as fatty liver and enteric fat necrosis.

Background: Gastro-entero-pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP-NEN) are relatively rare tumors, not equally distributed in gastro-intestinal system. In 2010, a revised version of the WHO classification of GEP-NENs was published. This study reports for the first time the distribution and characteristics of GEP-NEN in a Lebanese population. Materials and Methods: This descriptive retrospective study concerns all the digestive neuroendocrine tumors with their characteristics diagnosed in $H\hat{o}tel$ Dieu de France in Beirut, Lebanon from 2001 to 2012, all the pathology reports being reanalyzed according to the latest WHO 2010 classification. The characteristics and features of GEP-NEN analyzed in this study were age, gender, grade and site. Results: A total of 89 GEP-NENs were diagnosed, representing 28.2% of all neuroendocrine tumors. The mean age of GEP-NEN patients was 58.7 years and the M/F sex ratio was 1.2. The primary localization was as follows: 21.3%(19) pancreatic, 18% (16) gastric, 15.7% (14) duodenal, 11.2% (10) appendix, 10.1% (9) intestinal, 10.1% (9) colorectal (7.9% colonic and 2.2% rectal), 5.6% (4) hepatic, 2.2% (2) ampulla, 1.1% (1) esophageal and 7.9%(5) NOS digestive (metastatic with unknown primary). Of the 89 patients with GEP-NEN, 56.2% (50) were diagnosed as grade I, 11.2% (10) as grade II, 20.2% (18) as grade III and 12.4% (11) were considered as mixed adeno-neuroendocrine carcinomas (MANEC). Conclusions: This study, one of the rare examples based on the 2010 WHO classification of neuroendocrine tumors in the literature, indicates that in the Lebanese population, all duodenal and appendicular tumors are G1 and the majority of MANEC tumors are gastric and pancreatic tumors. Moreover, more duodenal tumors and fewer rectal tumors were encountered in our study compared to European reports.
The use of high-strength steel and concrete in the construction industry has been gaining increasing attention over the past few decades. With it comes the need to utilise high-strength structural bolts to ensure the design load to be transferred safely through joint regions, where the space is limited due to the reduced structural dimensions. However, research on the behaviour of high-strength structural bolts under various loading combinations is still insufficient. Most of the current design specifications concerning high-strength structural bolts were established based on a very limited set of experimental results. Moreover, as experimental programs normally include limited design parameters for investigation, finite element analysis has become one of the effective methods to assist the understanding of the behaviour of structural components. An accurate and simple full-range stress-strain model for high-strength structural bolts under different loading combinations was therefore developed, where the effects of bolt fracture was included. The ultimate strength capacities of various structural bolts obtained from the present experimental program were compared with the existing design provisions. Furthermore, design recommendations concerning the pure shear and tension, as well as combined shear and tension resistance of Grade 10.9 high-strength structural bolts were provided.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between abdominal subcutaneous fat thickness measured by ultrasonography (US) and serum lipid profile and liver transaminases in obese children. Methods: One hundred and sixty-six children diagnosed with obesity from May 2001 to December 2013 were included in this study. Data on serum lipid profile and liver transaminases were collected from clinical records. Abdominal subcutaneous fat thickness and grade of hepatic steatosis were evaluated by US. Results: Of the 166 children, 107 were diagnosed with hepatic steatosis by US, 46 with grade I, 56 with grade II, and five children with grade III. According to the grade of hepatic steasosis, the average values of midline abdominal subcutaneous fat thickness and right flank abdominal subcutaneous fat thickness measured $2.9{\pm}0.8cm$ and $1.9{\pm}0.7cm$ in the normal group, $3.3{\pm}0.8cm$ and $2.0{\pm}0.7cm$ in grade I, $3.8{\pm}0.8cm$ and $2.3{\pm}0.8cm$ in grade II, and $4.1{\pm}0.8cm$ and $2.8{\pm}1.4cm$ in grade III, respectively. Abdominal subcutaneous fat thickness correlated with grade of hepatic steatosis (p<0.01). In addition, abdominal subcutaneous fat thickness correlated with concentration of serum lipids and liver transaminases in the age group of 12-14 years (p<0.01). Conclusion: Abdominal subcutaneous fat thickness measured by US can be used as a reliable predictor of possible hyperlipidemia and steatohepatitis in children, especially during the adolescent stage.

The purpose of this study is to relieve the difficulties caused by science terminology in science learning and increasing the efficiency of science education. The reason why students experience difficulties in science terminology is because science words are used without being filtered by a criteria and students have not had the opportunity to be educated properly in science terminology. As a way to solve this problem, we propose establishing a criteria about the science words used in science education and to teach the science words systematically to the students under the criteria. In this study, we used the method of empirical linguistics that investigate the science terminologies actually used in science education to establish a criteria for science words. As a basic research for this, we analyzed all words contained in the physics section of science textbooks for elementary and secondary schools. And then, we collected all words used in the physics section of science textbook, and selected the science words for teaching, and rated them by grade. As a result, a total of 930 physics terms were selected as the science words for grade 3 to 10. The numbers of physics terms per grade were as follows: 66 words for the 3rd grade, 38 words for the 4th grade, 35 words for the 5th grade, 28 words for the 6th grade, 203 words for the 7th grade, 135 words for the 8th grade, 123 words for the 9th grade, and 302 words for the 10th grade.
Purpose : We evaluated the epidemiologic characteristics and incidence of coronary artery sequele of children with KD according to treatment. Methods : We retrospectively analyzed 506 medical records of children with KD, who were admitted at Daejeon St. Mary's Hospital from Jan. 1987 to Dec. 2000. Results : The mean annual incidence was $36.1{\pm}11.1$ cases per year. There was a slightly higher occurrence in summer with no significant difference in monthly incidence. The mean age was $2.4{\pm}1.7$ years and 450 children(88.9%) were below four years of age. The male to female ratio was 1.7 : 1. When the 345 cases between 1987 and 1994 were divided into three groups according to treatment, incidences of the coronary abnormality(above grade II) of aspirin-treated(54 cases; 15.6%), divided-intravenous immunoglobulin(IVIG) treated($400-500mg/day{\times}4-5days$, 224 cases; 64.9%), and one-dose IVIG treated(2.0 g/day, 67 cases; 19.5%) groups were 8.3%, 6.0%, and 7.5%, respectively. Between 1995 and 2000, 143 cases were treated with only one-dose IVIG and 21 cases(14.7%) showed coronary artery abnormalities(grade I, 15 cases; grade II, two cases; and grade III, four cases). Among the 143 cases, 22 cases(15.1%) were retreated with IVIG and/or steroid pulse therapy. The incidence of coronary artery abnormality in this group was 50.0%. Incidences of cases in recurrence and among siblings were 0.6% and 0.4% respectively. There was no fatal case. Conclusion : In Daejeon, Korea, the epidemiologic feature of KD showed slight annual variations without monthly differences. The incidence of coronary abnormality with one-dose IVIG therapy was 14.7%. The nonresponse of this therapy was 15.1% with a coronary abnormality of 50.0%.
Purpose: This study was performed to assess necessity of voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) for infants with urinary tract infection (UTI) who had both normal renal sonography and normal DMSA renal scans. Methods: We reviewed 117 infants hospitalized for UTI between February 2002 and July 2007 at Sanggye Paik Hospital. The diagnosis of UTI was made by culture from a urine specimen obtained by suprapubic puncture(n=57), catheterization(n=58), or collection bag method (n=2, twice positive culture of the same organism). All patients had undergone renal sonography, DMSA renal scan and VCUG. Children with both normal renal sonography and normal DMSA renal scans were evaluated for the presence or severity of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). Results: Of the 117 patients, 96 were boys and 21 were girls. 28 patients(23.9%) had VUR. 59(50.4%) showed both normal renal sonography and normal DMSA renal scans. Among these 59 patients, 7(11.9%) showed VUR. Three of them had grade I-II reflux, two grade III reflux, and the other two grade IV reflux. One of them showed bilateral VUR, grade IV reflux on the right and grade III on the left. Conclusion: Although the negative predictive value of both normal renal sonography and normal DMSA renal scan for VUR was 88.1%, 7 patients had VUR and two of them had high grade reflux(grade IV). So, we suggest that VCUG should be performed in infants with UTI despite both normal renal sonography and normal DMSA renal scans.
