Importance of global slope stability analysis in design of geosynthetic reinforced walls in tiered configuration (계단식 보강토 옹벽 설계시 사면안정해석의 중요성)

  • This paper highlights the importance of carrying out global slope stability analysis as part of design calculations for geosynethetic walls in tiered configuration. Four design case histories were selected to examine the appropriateness of their design by performing additional slope stability analyses using the shear strength reduction method with in the frame work of finite element analysis. The results indicated that all of the walls examined, which were designed to meet the current design guide lines, did not satisfy the global slope stability requirement, and that longer reinforcements are required in the upper tiers to achieve the minimum factor of safety. Practical implications of the findings are discussed.

  • Recently, due to the gloalization of the industry environment and the consequent multi-national companies led by industrialized countries, fashion companies of newly industrialized countries are pursuing to globalize their businesses. This study conducted to review the global configuration of activities of the added value chain, the strategies to enhance global competitiveness, and global performance of value activities of Korean fashion companies. The data were collected from the survey by questionnaire on Korean fashion companies. The methods of analysis used in this study were regression, and descriptive statistics of the data. the results werw as follows. First, Korean fashion companies were undergoing diverse value activities through their foreign subsidiaries and overseas out-sourced companies in a wide spectrum of business activities ranging from design/planning o products to marketing/logistics. Second, the global competitive strategies that the Korean fashion companies were most focused on were the cost/productivity aspects. The efforts to differentiate the products from competitors, the efforts for innovation, an the efforts of growth were the next strategies. The strategy that was least emphasized was on seeking alliance with other business partners. Third, the result of the globalization efforts showed an overseas market growth of and average of 9%, and an average overseas market profit of 7.8%. The overall satisfaction on the result of the overseas market activities, and the rate of accomplishment of market targets were generally low.

IPv6 Global Address Configuration Algorithm for Internet Interconnection in MANET (MANET기반 Internet 연결에서 IPv6 Global Address 할당 방법)

  • The MANET(Mobile Ad Hoc Network) is an independent network that is oranized by only Mobile Hosts. MANET guarantees the mobility of the node and does not need a backbone network or a base station. Recently, there is a strong demand to connect MANET to the Internet. For the interconnection between MANET and Internet, Mobile hosts of MANET must have global IP address. The well known scheme of the address configuration for MANET is SAA(Stateless Address Autoconfiguration). SAA configurated IP address by node itself. The advantage of SAA is not requiring any server for address configuration. However the SAA has problems of unstable and inefficient interconnection on the AD Hoc Network. To solve this problem we propose a method that assigns an IPv6 Global address to the node through the Internet Gateway. The format of assigned IPv6 address is also defined. The simulation result demonstrates that the proposed method can support the host for fast getting of global IPv6 Address and Mobile IPv6 efficiently.

MNCs R&D Subsidiary Strategy : Focusing on Technology Firm Patent Performance (다국적기업의 R&D 자회사 전략 : 기술기업 연구개발 특허성과를 중심으로)

  • This study aims to analyze which subsidiary configuration strategy is more effective under uncertainty especially technology base multinational corporations (henceforth MNCs). In previous studies real option theory scholars argue that high breadth subsidiary configuration is most effective strategy because that provides flexibility to MNCs global network. In this study I want unveil more various types of uncertainty such as technology and learning uncertainty which are more important for technology base firm and further more examine the effect of MNCs subsidiary configuration on firm R&D performance each uncertainty case. Empirical study is performed by negative binominal model based on Japanese 108 multinational corporations. The result shows that under technology uncertainty, high breadth subsidiary configuration is better for firm R&D performance but under learning uncertainty high depth subsidiary configuration is better. Thus, the effects of MNCs subsidiary configuration on firm value can differ by types of uncertainty.

A Study on Flame Extinction Behavior in Downstream Interaction between SNG/Air Premixed Flames (SNG/Air 예혼합 화염들의 하류상호작용에 있어서 화염 소화 거동에 관한 연구)

  • Experimental and numerical studies were conducted to investigate flame behaviors near flammable limits for downstream-interacting SNG-air premixed flames in a counter-flow configuration. The SNG fuel consisted of a methane, a propane, and a hydrogen with volumetric ratios of 91, 6, and 3%, respectively. The most appropriate priority for some reliable reaction mechanisms examined was given to the mechanism of UC San diego via comparison of lean extinction limits attained numerically with experimental ones. Flame stability map was presented with a functional dependencies of lower and upper methane concentrations in terms of global strain rate. The results show that, at the global strain rate of $30s^{-1}$, lean extinction boundary is slanted while rich extinction one is relatively less inclined because of the dependency of such extinction boundary shapes on deficient reactant Lewis number governed by methane mainly. Further increase of global strain rate forces both extinction boundaries to be more slanted and to be shrunk, resulting in an island of extinction boundary and subsequently one flame extinction limit. Extinction mechanisms for lean and rich, symmetric and asymmetric extinction boundary were identified and discussed via heat losses and chemical interaction.

  • The propellant grain configuration is a design variable that determines the shape and performance of a solid rocket motor. Grain configuration variables have complicated effects on the motor performance; so the global optimization problem has to be solved in order to design the configuration variables. The grain performance has been analyzed by means of the grain burn-back and internal ballistic analysis, and the optimization technique searches for the configuration variables that satisfy the requirements. The deterministic and stochastic optimization techniques have been applied for the grain optimization, but the results are imperfect. In this study, the optimization design of the configuration variables has been performed using the hybrid optimization technique, which combines those two techniques. As a result, the hybrid optimization technique has proved to be efficient for the grain optimization design.

  • Technology transfer from universities and research institutes to industries is recognized as a critical issue to strengthen industrial competitiveness, and the roles of technology transfer intermediaries are becoming one of the most important factors for successful technology transfer In today's global and knowledge-based economies, technology transfer services are started shifting to Internet and vertical transfer of technology from R&D labs to industries is becoming more emphasized than horizontal company-to-company transfer of commercialized technology. And the need of comprehensive technology transfer services necessitates cooperation among technology transfer intermediaries and networks offering complementary services. In order to respond to these changes, it is required to construct a new type of technology transfer system. But there are few researches on technology transfer system configuration for design and realization of technology transfer intermediaries. This paper presents the configuration models of technology transfer from universities and research institutes to industries. The configuration models are classified and described from the viewpoint of flows of information, technology and knowledge.

Boundary-RRT* Algorithm for Drone Collision Avoidance and Interleaved Path Re-planning

  • Various modified algorithms of rapidly-exploring random tree (RRT) have been previously proposed. However, compared to the RRT algorithm for collision avoidance with global and static obstacles, it is not easy to find a collision avoidance and local path re-planning algorithm for dynamic obstacles based on the RRT algorithm. In this study, we propose boundary-RRT*, a novel-algorithm that can be applied to aerial vehicles for collision avoidance and path re-planning in a three-dimensional environment. The algorithm not only bounds the configuration space, but it also includes an implicit bias for the bounded configuration space. Therefore, it can create a path with a natural curvature without defining a bias function. Furthermore, the exploring space is reduced to a half-torus by combining it with simple right-of-way rules. When defining the distance as a cost, the proposed algorithm through numerical analysis shows that the standard deviation (σ) approaches 0 as the number of samples per unit time increases and the length of epsilon ε (maximum length of an edge in the tree) decreases. This means that a stable waypoint list can be generated using the proposed algorithm. Therefore, by increasing real-time performance through simple calculation and the boundary of the configuration space, the algorithm proved to be suitable for collision avoidance of aerial vehicles and replanning of local paths.

Characterization of Singularity Avoidance Measures for a Redundant Robot (여유자유도 로봇을 위한 특이점 회피 성능지수들의 특성화)

  • This paper suggests a measure constraint locus which is the loci of points satisfying the necessary constraint for optimality of a measure in the configuration space. The characterization of four measures for singularity avoidance is worked out by using the measure constraint locus. It gives a global look at the performance of an inverse kinematic algorithm whien each of measures in a kinematically redundant robot is used. The invertible workspace without singularities and the topological properties both on the configuration and operational spaces are analyzed. We discuss also some limitations, based on the topological arguments of measure constraint locus, of the inverse kinematic algorithms, and compare global properties of each of measure. Therfore, a new concept called measure constraint locus gives a methodology for obtaining a conservative joint trajectory without singularities for almost entire workspace.

Multi-Observations of Magnetic Cloud

  • The geometry of an MC (magnetic cloud) in the interplanetary space can be estimated by the magnetic flux rope model. But the single point observation in the interplanetary space near the Earth is scanty to comprehend the global configuration of MC because the MC is considered a huge loop extending from the Sun with both legs rooted on the Sun. If the MC is observed at two different locations sufficiently far away from each other, it may provide the global configuration of the MC. In this study, we model the MC which is observed two different locations using a simple straight cylinder model. The MC model fit parameters are the flux rope axis orientation (${\Theta}$, ${\phi}$), the intensity of the magnetic field at the flux rope axis ($B_0$), the radius of the MC ($R_0$), and the impact parameter (p), etc. With the MC model fit parameters we look into the difference between two observed MC geometries and also calculate the magnetic flux and helicity of the MC.
