This paper describes the suggestion of the special seat with the auxiliary plastic member for movie theater chair. In the previous paper, we have reported on the development of foaming sponge seat with the auxiliary spring member. And we have confirmed that it was more effective on vibration transfer than the chair seat of foaming sponge only. In this study, we have examined the major design parameters needed in the development of a foaming sponge seat in which the mesh type plastic member are inserted to improve the vibration transfer effect of a chair seat. By applying experimentation to the prototype as well as the experimental modal analysis method, we made sure that the effect of the vibration transfer could be improved through the use of a mesh type plastic member as similar as the auxiliary spring member.
This paper presents practical work on the reduction of gear whine noise. In order to identify the source of the gear whine noise, transfer paths are searched and analyzed by operational deflection shape analysis and experimental modal analysis. It was found that gear whine noise has an air-borne noise path instead of structure-borne noise path. The main sources of air-borne noise were the two global modes caused by the resonance of an axle system. These modes created a vibro-acoustic noise problem. Vibro-acoustic noise can be reduced by controlling the vibration of the noise source. The vibration of noise source is controlled by the modification of structure to avoid the resonance or to reduce the excitation force. In the study, the excitation force of the axle system is attenuated by changing the tooth profile of the hypoid gear. The modification of the tooth profile yields a reduction of transmission error, which is correlated to the gear whine noise. Finally, whine noise is reduced by 10 dBA.
Genetic algorithm is a optimization technique based on the mechanics of natural selection and natural genetics. Global optimum solution can be obtained efficiently by operations of reproduction, crossover and mutation in genetic algorithm. The authors developed a computer program which can optimize marine propulsion shafting by using binary-coded genetic algorithm and modal analysis method. In order to confirm the effectiveness of the developed computer program, we apply the program to a optimum design problem which is to obtain optimum diameters of intermediate shaft and propeller shaft in marine propulsion shafting. Objective function is to minimize total mass of shafts and constraints are that torsional vibration stresses of shafts in marine propulsion shafting can not exceed the permissible torsional vibration stresses of the ship classification society. The computational results by the program were compared with those of conventional design technique.

A spectral element method(SEM) is introduced for the vibration analysis of a rectangular plate subject to dynamic concentrated loads. First, the spectral plate element is derived from the relations between the forces and displacements along the two opposite edges of plate element. The global spectral matrix equation is then formulated by assembling two spectral plate elements so that the dynamic concentrated load is located at the connection nodal line between two plate elements. the concentrated load is then spatially Fourier transformed in the direction of the connection nodal line to transform the two-dimensional plate problem into a simplified equivalent one-dimensional beam-like problem. We may benefit from these procedures in that the spectral results from the present SEM is compared with the exact analytical solutions to prove the remarkable accuracy of the present SEM, while this is not true for conventional finite element solutions, especially at high frequency.

This paper proposes a quick and simplified method to describe masonry vaults in global seismic analyses of buildings. An equivalent macro-element constituted by a set of six trusses, two for each transverse, longitudinal and diagonal direction, is introduced. The equivalent trusses, whose stiffness is calculated by fully modeled vaults of different geometry, mechanical properties and boundary conditions, simulate the vault in both global analysis and local analysis, such as kinematic or rocking approaches. A parametric study was carried out to investigate the influence of geometrical characteristics and mechanical features on the equivalent stiffness values. The method was numerically validated by performing modal and transient analysis on a three naves-church in the elastic range. Vibration modes and displacement time-histories were compared showing satisfying agreement between the complete and the simplified models. This procedure is particularly useful in engineering practice because it allows to assess, in a simplified way, the effectiveness of strengthening interventions for reducing horizontal relative displacements between vault supports.

Fuel oil consumption cost varies depending on every ship operation and this roughly amounts to 70 % of shipping companies' total revenue. As such, efforts towards improved fuel economy are being pursued. An annual 1 % reduction in fuel consumption is perceived to result in saving tens million US dollars on the global fleet operation. One approach is the application of power take-off configurations which are seen to increase fuel oil economy and are suitable for power generation. In this study, the dynamic properties of a shaft generator coupled on a 10S90ME main engine of an 18 600 TEU container vessel is presented. The vibratory torque and angular velocity variation was examined through theoretical analysis and actual vibration measurement. The result of the study suggests a review on existing classification rules for generator design and the lowering of vibratory torque and angular velocity variation guideline.

This study propose the vibration-based damage monitoring scheme for steel girder bolt-connection member by using wireless acceleration sensor node. In order to achieve the objective, the following approaches are implemented. Firstly, wireless acceleration sensor node is described on the design of hardware components and embedded operation software. Secondly, the vibration-based damage monitoring scheme of the steel girder bolt-connection member is described. The damage monitoring scheme performed global damage occurrence alarming and damage localization estimation by the acceleration response feature analysis. The global damage alarming is applied to the correlation coefficient of power spectral density. The damage localization estimation is applied to the frequency-based damage detection technique and the mode-shape-based damage detection technique. Finally, the performance of the vibration-based damage monitoring scheme is evaluated for detecting the bolt-connection member damage on a lab-scale steel girder.
It has been known that one-dimensional rod theory is very effective as a simplified analytical approach to large scale or complicated structures such as high-rise buildings, in preliminary design stages. It replaces an original structure by a one-dimensional rod which has an equivalent stiffness in terms of global properties. If the structure is composed of distinct constituents of different stiffness such as coupled walls with opening, structural behavior is significantly governed by the local variation of stiffness. This paper proposes an extended version of the rod theory which accounts for the two-dimensional local variation of structural stiffness; viz, variation in the transverse direction as well as longitudinal stiffness distribution. The governing equation for the two-dimensional rod theory is formulated from Hamilton's principle by making use of a displacement function which satisfies continuity conditions across the boundary between the distinct structural components in the transverse direction. Validity of the proposed theory is confirmed by comparison with numerical results of computational tools in the cases of static, free vibration and forced vibration problems for various structures.
In this paper, we present a thin circular beam finite element for the out-of-plane vibration analysis of curved beams. The element stiffness matrix and the element mass matrix are derived respectively from the strain energy and the kinetic energy by using the natural shape functions which are obtained from an integration of the differential equations of the finite element in static equilibrium. The matrices are formulated with respect to the local polar coordinate system or to the global Cartesian coordinate system in consideration of the effects of shear deformation and rotary inertias. Some example problems are analysed. The FEM results are compared with the theoretical ones to show that the presented finite element can describe quite efficiently and accurately the out-of-plane motion of thin curved beams.

It has tried to predict dynamic response and establish answering about global or local dynamic problem in structures using experimental and analysis method. One of such a try, it be proposed Semi-Empirical Method that reduce error element of input information about dynamic analysis using dynamic experimental study and measurement data in the basis of real-structure. In this paper, the dynamic response problem about piping system that be set-up THERMOWELL produce flow fluid dynamic force using Semi-Empirical Method
