  • The problem of estimating symmetric probability density with high kurtosis is considered. Such densities are often estimated poorly by a global bandwidth kernel estimation since good estimation of the peak of the distribution leads to unsatisfactory estimation of the tails and vice versa. In this paper, we propose a transformation technique before using a global bandwidth kernel estimator. Performance of density estimator based on proposed transformation is investigated through simulation study. It is observed that our method offers a substantial improvement for the densities with high kurtosis. However, its performance is a little worse than that of ordinary kernel estimator in the situation where the kurtosis is not high.

  • With the development of information and Internet technology, traditional museums have been long followed the trend of integrating innovative technological elements into the changed museums. It is necessary that the museums seize the opportunity of the trend transforming into smart museums, the key is to grasp the characteristics and laws of the Internet era, and use Internet thinking to explore the future development path. However, there are few studies on Internet thinking among the existing results. On the other hand, most of the relevant actual case studies still focus on the micro-level, which has obvious limitations. This paper will start from the current situation and trend, focus on the Palace Museum as a case study object, and discuss the problems and characteristics, so as to put forward the thinking about the development of smart museums in four aspects to explore the optimal path of transformation for smart museums.

  • Area studies, including Asian and Southeast Asian studies, in the post-Cold War era have been facing an epochal challenge that is rooted in two conditions: on the one hand, the end of the Cold War and the fading geopolitical rationale, and on the other, the emergence of the technology-driven transformation of the global economy and society. The consequences thus far are paradoxical: 1) While the technology-led transformation needs a workforce with critical and innovative abilities, higher education becomes more hyper-utilitarian; 2) While the transformation instigates increasing diversity of identities in global cultures, many countries thrive for STEM education at the expense of learning languages and cultures, including area studies which are essential for diversity. Southeast Asian studies programs need to change in response to these new conditions. These changing conditions and paradoxes, nevertheless, take different forms and degrees in the American, European and Asian academies, thanks to their different histories of higher education. The prospects for Southeast Asian Studies in these various academies are likely to be different too.

  • As the 4th Industrial Revolution accelerates, the future of the economy faces new uncertainties, particularly around digital transformation. This shift is crucial in today's ICT-centric world. Korea, a significant contributor to global Manufacturing Value Added (MVA), is poised to expand its share. This paper examines Korea's digital transformation and its global economic competitiveness. By referencing world-renowned analyses, it compares Korea's competitive stance. As industries and economies are on the verge of a technological upheaval, understanding and preparing for these changes is vital for maximizing benefits. This paper also delves into the opportunities and policy challenges presented by digitization in the 4th Industrial Revolution era.

  • The vehicle license plate recognition (VLPR) system analyzes and monitors the speed of vehicles, theft of vehicles, the violation of traffic rules, illegal parking, etc., on the motorway. The VLPR consists of three major parts: license plate detection (LPD), license plate character segmentation (LPCS), and license plate character recognition (LPCR). This paper presents an efficient method for the LPCS and LPCR of Korean vehicle license plates (LPs). LP tilt adjustment is a very important process in LPCS. Radon transformation is used to correct the tilt adjustment of LP. The global threshold segmentation method is used for segmented LP characters from two different types of Korean LPs, which are a single row LP (SRLP) and double row LP (DRLP). The cross-correlation matching method is used for LPCR. Our experimental results show that the proposed methods for LPCS and LPCR can be easily implemented, and they achieved 99.35% and 99.85% segmentation and recognition accuracy rates, respectively for Korean LPs.

  • Image data is mostly stored in compressed form because of its huge size. Therefore, a series of cumbersome procedures is required to apply a transformation to image data: decompression, extraction of spatial data, transformation and recompression. In this paper, we employ DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform) coefficients to change the spatial presentation of images. DCT is commonly used in still image compression standards such as JPEG and moving picture compression standards such as MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and H.264. In this paper, we derived mathematically the relationship between the geometry transformation in the spatial domain and coefficient changes in the DCT domain and verified it with images in the JPEG file format. Because of the efficiency of transformation in the frequency domain, our findings can be utilized for light-weight partial image encryption for privacy data protection or entertainment contents protection.

  • This study aims to examine the transformation of the heroic narrative in the successful Korean Wave drama. In this study, TV drama "Descendants of the Sun" which gained tremendous popularity at home and abroad was considered to be an example of the heroic narrative model proposed by Vogler. Further, two analysis points were identified as the critical factor of success: modern transformation and global transformation. Modern transformation is about distinct characteristics of Korea, found in three primary factors of the work: the setting up of a character, the development of events and the background set-up. Global transformation features universal value to attract foreign viewers by lowering cultural discount. In "Descendants of the Sun", humanism is considered to broaden the horizon of the work by affecting above three factors. In conclusion, It is the proper combination of these dual transformations that globalize Korean drama. In this regard, this study will be a meaningful attempt to shed light on the storytelling strategy of Korean dramas in terms of the heroic narrative.

  • In this paper we propose an algorithm which fits a surface to noise-corrupted data points using an aceive sur-vace with global deformations. It is 3-dimensional surface extension of our precious works on 2-dimensional curve modell[11,12].We use fimite differences, and represent shapes of surface as global transfromation suring evolution based on the ballon [odel[2,3]which allows partial inflation or deflation by using niegborhood'sextermal foreces on each node points. At first,we make local deformations based on the balloon [odel, and then the blobal transformation from the surface before deformations to the defomed surface is calcualted by the deterministic lest squre method, finally we apply the global transformation to the surface before deformations. In experiments we fit a surface(elliposid,B-spline)to noise-corrupted 3D data points using the active surface with affine deformations.

  • The national geodetic reference frame of Korea was adopted in 2003, which is referenced to ITRF (International Terrestrial Reference Frame) 2000 at the epoch of January 1, 2002. For precise positioning based on the satellites, it should be thoroughly maintained to the newest global reference frame. Other than plate tectonic motion, there are significant events or changes such as earthquakes, antenna replacement, PSD (Post-Seismic Deformation), seasonal variation etc. We processed three years of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) data(60 NGII CORS stations, 51 IGS core stations) to produce daily solutions minimally constrained to ITRF. From the time series of daily solutions, the sites with unexpected discontinuity were identified to set up an event(mostly antenna replacement). The combined solution with minimum constraints was estimated along with the velocity, the offsets, and the periodic signals. The residuals show that the surrounding environment also affects the time series to a certain degree, thus it should be improved eventually. The transformation parameters to ITRF2014 were calculated with stability and consistency, which means the national geodetic reference frame is properly aligned to the global reference frame.
