  • As the amount of time that elementary school students spend online increased due to Corona 19, the amount of posts, comments, and chats they write increased, and problems such as offending others' feelings or using swear words are occurring. Netiquette is being educated in elementary school, but training time is insufficient. In addition, it is difficult to expect changes in student behavior. So, technical support through natural language processing is needed. In this study, an experiment was conducted to automatically filter profanity sentences by applying them to a pre-trained language model on sentences written by elementary school students. In the experiment, chat details of elementary school 4-6 graders were collected on an online learning platform, and general sentences and profanity sentences were trained through a pre-learned language model. As a result of the experiment, as a result of classifying profanity sentences, it was analyzed that the precision was 75%. It has been shown that if the learning data is sufficiently supplemented, it can be sufficiently applied to the online platform used by elementary school students.

  • In this paper, it is aimed to design the teaching units 'Inquiry into the isoperimetric problem of triangle and quadrilateral' to give elementary gifted students experience of mathematization. For this purpose, the teacher and the class observer (researcher) made a discussion about the design of the teaching unit through the analysis of the class based on the thought processes appearing during the problem solving process of each group of students. The following is a summary of the discussions that can give educational implications. First, it is necessary to use mathematical materials to reduce students' cognitive gap. Second, it is necessary to deeply study the relationship between the concept of side, which is an attribute of the triangle, and the abstract concept of height, which is not an attribute of the triangle. Third, we need a low-level deductive logic to justify reasoning, starting from inductive reasoning. Finally, there is a need to examine conceptual images related to geometric figure.

  • The core part of education program of the gifted students in information is the thinking ability extension of the programming. We propose four phases of the education model : (1) problem understanding (2) visualization (3) symbolization (4) algorithmization. This model of four phases is applied to learn the abstract concept of recursion using the data structure of Tree. This model is verified by presenting the example of 'Hanoi Tower' to stimulate intellectual curiosity of the students and help to expand their thinking strength. Also, we show the characteristics of which the teaching subjects and learning activities have, by presenting and clarifying the type of education program, properties of the learning contents, and lower level components. The students can deepen and foster the growth of the learning contents by the students' activities of self-evaluation, and their thinking abilities are increased by the guidances of their teachers.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze recently developed tools and relevant literature in order to discuss development scheme of augmented reality-based programming tools targeting elementary school students. Literature review draws conclusion that touch mode in the mobile augmented reality is effective, especially in the environment where manipulates commands and it is required to design contents taking class environment and teaching-learning strategy into account. Such research findings indicate that augmented reality-based programming tools targeting elementary school students should be designed to increase their interest in programming in a way that when physical teaching materials or specific space are recognized, the programmed problems will be augmented to allow students to combine the commands in the augmented environment.

  • The purpose of this study is to figure out gifted elementary science students' improvement in performing open inquiry after peer review. In this study, gifted fifth-grade students performed open inquiry and review of each other as peers after the inquiry. Students' inquiries were evaluated and the influences of the feedback from the peer reviews were analyzed in relation to the inquiry performances. As a result of this study, three key points were discovered: First, the evaluation score increased with frequent feedback or long discussions. On the other hand, with less feedback, the evaluation score didn't rise. Second, there were three types of improvement in inquiry related to peer review: No. 1 was improvement after feedback given by themselves. No. 2 was reflection of feedback given to other groups. As a last type, No. 3 was that the students learned from other groups' presentation without any feedback and improved their inquiry. Third, there were five kinds of giving feedback; (1) feedback understanding the inquiry correctly, (2) insufficiency of peer's inquiry without deep thought. (3) on the usefulness of the inquiry, (4) on the scientific and logic validity through critical thinking, and (5) how to develop the inquiry. In these kinds of feedback, the fourth kind of feedback (4) occurred most frequently but the fifth (5) occurred rarely. It means peer review helps students develop their critical thinking ability and teachers should encourage students to give peers feedback of the fifth kind.

  • This study purposed to examine the effects of the Feuerstein's cognitive mediated learning for gifted children on attention control and attention shift. For the study, 40 gifted students were chosen from the 3rd graders in elementary schools and divided into test and control groups using K-WISC-III and Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking. The mediated learning program that is targeted to improve the executive functions of gifted children has used the tools of Organization of Dots, Analytic Perception and Comparisons among Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment(FIE). According to the results of this study, a significant improvement has been observed in selective attention, self-control, sustained attention, and attention shift through cognitive mediated learning. Therefore, it has been proven that the cognitive mediated learning is effective in reducing gifted children's problematic behaviors that are caused by a lack of attention control and attention shift and improving their cognitive functions and potentials.

  • This study is to examine the perceptions and attitudes of parents about the teachers' recommendation system through their observations to identify the gifted. We conducted surveys for parents who had elementary school children in Busan metropolitan city and analysed the results to find out about the differences among parents groups in terms of their monthly incomes and opinions on teachers' observation and nomination for the gifted. The results are following; First, approx. 80% of the respondents recognized the changes in the giftedness identification system. Also, 40.5% of the parents positively thought about the teachers' observation and nomination system (positive group), whereas 32.3% of the parents showed their negative opinions about the system (negative group). There were also 27.2% of the parents who did not make their decisions (no-decision-making group). Second, most of the parents accepted that the teachers who were professionally trained in gifted education should be the persons for observing and nominating gifted students. However, significant differences were shown among the different monthly income groups of the parents in regards to who should be the person taking charge of recommending the gifted and how trustworthy this person could be. Third, the positive parents' group mostly expected that as the teachers' observation and nomination system is adopted, expenses for private education would decrease, whereas the negative group and no-decision-making group thought that the opposite result would occur. These results will be helpful for the successful adoption of teachers' observation and recommendation system to identify the gifted in the field of education.

  • In the previous study on the effectiveness of SW education, the educational goals were mainly focused on developing computational thinking ability and researching changes in computational thinking ability. But the word "computational thinking" is difficult to the public. Also the definition of computational thinking is varies from scholar to scholar. Therefore, this study aims to inform the public of the excellence and effectiveness of SW education through the change of "writing ability" which is more familiar to us. To achieve this goal, 10 lectures of SW training materials were produced and conducted in elementary science gifted class. As a result, significant changes have been made in the fluency and quality of writing skills, proving that SW training improves students' writing skills. Through this, we confirmed the visible results through SW education, which can be called justification of SW education. Furthermore, it is expected that various educational attempts will be developed using SW in other subjects.
