Perception of the Scientifically Gifted and Long-term Effects of Science Gifted Education Program - from the Students' Perspectives

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the impacts of a science gifted education program. 155 students who experienced the SNU science gifted education program were interviewed. The interview questions consisted of eligible questions from 'Interview Protocol of Hertzog' (2003) based on 'Recommended Practice in Gifted Education (Shore, Cornell, & Ward, 1991)'. All interviews were immediately transcribed and analyzed qualitatively. It was found that scientifically gifted students had similar concepts of the gifted to what scholars consider as the gifted. Comparing the programs to school education program, the students agreed that the science gifted education program provided more experiments opportunities, higher and deeper level of contents, and more active interactions. Regarding long-term effects, it was found that program influenced on students' decisions for the future, stimuli and expansion of horizons, school work and entrance examinations. Students gained self-confidence and became more interested in science. Some pointed out that they felt greater stimulated, although some indicated an elevated level of self conceit. Implications of science gifted education were found based on these results.

초등학교 영재교육대상자의 수학적 신념에 대한 연구 (A Study on Elementary Gifted Children's Mathematical Belief)

  • 본 연구에서는 영재교육대상자의 수학적 신념이 일반학급 학생과 차이가 있는지를 분석하고 영재 교육대상자로 선발된 학생이 수학영재교육을 받음으로써 수학적 신념에 어떤 변화가 생기는지에 대해 알아보았다. 이를 통하여 다음과 같은 연구 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 수학성취도와 수학적 신념 사이에는 유의미한 상관관계가 있었다. 둘째, 영재교육을 받기 전의 영재교육대상자와 일반아동의 수학적 신념을 비교한 결과, 영재교육대상자의 수학적 신념이 일반학급 학생에 비해 더 긍정적인 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 수학적 신념 중 하위영역인 수학학습에 대한 신념과 자아에 대한 신념에서 영재교육원의 영재교육대상자들의 신념이 부정적으로 바뀌었다.

Science Gifted Learning Program: Research & Education Model

  • This paper suggests a research & education (R&E) model for the gifted in science education. The model has been developed under three assumptions. The first is that using the sequences of a gifted educational program designed to facilitate the process will assist in gifted students' construction of scientific knowledge and comprehension of laboratory practice through concrete experimental experience. The second is that gifted students will be able to apply this learning to further study using and extending scientific knowledge and experience. The third is that challenging tasks and feedback at the requisite stage of development will improve instructional effectiveness. The R&E Model has five phases: engaging, exploring, planning, performing and elaborating; furthermore, it suggests roles for the mentee and mentor. The R&E model has two functions for gifted education. The first is providing guidance for gifted curriculum developers as they design a mentor program, and the second is helping a mentor improve instructional effectiveness through use of strategies. This model has potentials to educate the gifted students in the Science Education Institute for the Gifted.

수학영재아, 부모, 교사가 본 영재교육 (Viewpoints of Mathematics gifted students, parents, teachers about Gifted Education)

  • 본 연구에서는 S대학부설 과학영재교육에서 교육받고 있는 수학영재아들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하고 이를 바탕으로 수학영재아, 부모, 교사 면담을 실시하여 영재성, 영재교육의 필요성, 인과적 귀인 등에 관한 그들의 관점을 조사하였다. 그 결과, 다음을 확인하였다. 첫째, 영재아들의 부모나 교사는 지적 능력을, 영재아들은 창의성을 영재성의 가장 중요한 요소라고 생각하였다. 둘째, 영재아들은 교육환경에 따라 서로 다른 의사소통 능력을 보인다. 셋째, 수학영재아들은 자신의 영재성이나 문제해결능력을 내적요인에 귀인하는 반면, 부모나 교사는 외적요인에 귀인한다.

A Study on Usefulness of Convergent Education Curriculum for Gifted Children in IT

  • In the present knowledge and information society, knowledge and use of information and communication technology(ICT) is very important for every citizen. Also, for national power of a nation, IT-related industries need to be supported since those industries can be reconstructed in a short period of time unlike other industries. In this sense, identification and education of gifted children in IT become a serious national issue. Since 2013, gifted education has been conducted as a form of convergent education by government policy. However, there have been controversies on convergent education for gifted education. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the usefulness of convergent curriculum for gifted education in IT. For this purpose, gifted children in IT in a gifted education center are analyzed. By comparing the entrance ranking and graduation ranking, it is concluded that the current convergent gifted curriculum may not be efficient.

수학 영재교육에 대한 일반 영재학생과 사이버 영재학생의 인식 분석 (Gifted Students' Perceptions of On-line and Off-line Gifted Education in Mathematics)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how middle school students perceived the operation of on-line and off-line math-gifted education. The research questions were as follows: 1. How do students recognize the current situation concerning the operation of on-line and off-line gifted education? 2. How do students recognize the effect and satisfaction level of on-line and off-line gifted education? 3. How do students recognize the improvement of on-line and off-line gifted education? The subjects in this study were 591 students who included 208 in on-line classes and 383 in off-line classes. The results were as follows: First, the students who were enrolled in the on-line and off-line classes regarded gifted people as ones who had a superb ability in a particular field and as ones who think creatively. Second, all the students in on-line and off-line classes found gifted education to be of use to developing their potentials, and they had the biggest preference for experiential field study as the most effective teaching method. Third, concerning their needs for the management of gifted classes, they asked for immediate Q&A services over the Internet.

우리나라 수학영재교육의 문제점과 개선방안 (The Problems and Improvements of Gifted Education in Mathematics in Korea)

  • 우리나라의 수학영재교육은 그 역사가 짧아 아직 제도적으로 체계화 되지못해 여러가지 문제점을 가지고 있다. 그러나 그동안 여러 형태의 영재교육기관이 설립되어 수학영재교육을 맡아 왔는데 그 중에서도 학부모와 학생들로부터 점차 인정을 받아 자리를 잡아가는 대학부설 과학영재교육원은 우리나라 영재교육에 많은 기여를 하고 있다. 본 논문은 우리나라의 영재교육 발전을 위하여 전국 23개 대학부설 과학영재교육원의 수학반 운영실태와 교육과정, 교육내용을 비교 분석하고 문제점을 찾아 그에 대한 개선방안을 제시한다.

초등예비교사들의 과학영재교육에 대한 신념 연구 (A Study of Pre-service Elementary Teacher's Belief on Science Gifted Education)

  • The purpose of this work is to investigate pre-service elementary teachers' belief in science gifted education. To do that, from September to November 2012, this research had been conducted with 42 students who were in the third year of P University of Education. The conclusions of this work are presented as follows: First, the pre-service elementary teachers considered exploration ability to be the most important talent for the gifted students in science, and chose task commitment as the next most important. They regarded intelligent ability and leadership ability as the relatively less important. Secondly, regarding the most important tool in choosing scientifically gifted students, the pre-service elementary teachers preferred creativity test. It was found that they considered the intelligence test and academic achievements, which require intelligent ability, to be the less important. Thirdly, regarding the special knowledge related to science gifted education, the pre-service elementary teachers considered pedagogical knowledge about the gifted to be the most important. Fourthly, regarding a class type for gifted students in science, the pre-service elementary teachers most preferred project learning. Project learning is a learning method in which students choose an interesting problem and solve the problem in cooperation with group members. It is the most widely used exploration class in gifted education. It is in the same context as the result that exploration ability is the most important factor to elementary gifted students in science. This work revealed that, with regard to a talent for the gifted in science, judgment of the gifted in science and science gifted education, the potential ability and affective ability of gifted students are considered to be more important than their intelligent ability. Therefore, it was analyzed that pre-service elementary teachers' belief in the gifted students in science is almost consistent with the recent trend of gifted education.

초등정보영재 교육 프로그램 운영에 관한 연구 (A Study on Operation of Education Programs for Elementary Information-Gifted Children)

  • 최근 영재교육에 대한 필요성과 국가차원의 제2차 영재교육진흥계획의 영향으로 영재교육이 확대 실시되고 있는 실정이다. 이에 정보영재교육 분야도 병행하여, 정보영재교육을 실시하는 정보영재학급이 늘어가고 있다. 본 논문에서는 확대 실시되고 있는 정보영재교육과 관련하여, 초등정보영재 교육 프로그램을 효과적으로 운영할 수 있는 방안에 관하여 고찰해보았다. 이를 위해 기초적인 문헌연구와 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 이를 기반으로 초등정보영재 교육 프로그램 운영에 대한 방안을 제시하였다. 궁극적으로, 본 논문을 통하여 초등정보영재교육이 보다 효과적으로 이루어지는데 기여할 수 있기를 기대한다.

영재교육 교사 전문성의 구성요소 탐색 연구 (Exploration on the Elements of Teacher's Professionalism in Gifted Education)

  • 교사 전문성의 수준은 곧 교육의 질을 좌우하며, 영재교육에서도 동일하게 적용된다. 따라서 영재교육 교사 전문성에 대한 논의는 곧 영재교육의 질을 제고하는 방향 모색의 기반을 이룬다. 본 연구에서는 먼저 국내외 교사 전문성 관련 국내외 문헌을 고찰하여 영재교육 교사 전문성의 구성요소를 추출하였으며, 다음으로 요인분석을 통하여 교사 전문성의 구성요소를 지식기반, 능력기반, 상황기반 전문성으로 구분하였다. 마지막으로 2005년 한국교육개발원 영재교육 교사연수에 참여한 교사들을 대상으로 영재교육 교사의 전문성에 대한 학교급별 및 교과별 교사 인식의 차이를 다변량 분석방법으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 중등 교사들이 초등 교사에 비해 전공 교과 전문지식 획득과 첨단지식 및 정보 습득 측면에서 또한, 과학 교사들이 수학 교사에 비해 영재교육 프로그램 개발 능력과 영재교육 평가방법의 전문성에 대한 중요성을 높게 인식하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
