  • The purpose of this study is to compare the three areas that each estimated by using three different river topographic maps. For construction of river topographic maps, the data used in this study are ASTER, SRTM and a 1:5,000 scale digital map data sets in 14 streams of the Cheongdo-gun and Uiseong-gun. HEC-GeoRAS, RAS Mapper, and RiverCAD model are applied for the flooding area analysis using observed data and design rainfalls. The result of analysis is to compare observed flooding area based on the flood plain maps with estimated inundation area by hydraulic models and constructed river topographic maps. The results of this study are as follows; Flooding area by HEC-GeoRAS model is similar to the inundation area of flood plain map and appears in order of RAS Mapper, and RiverCAD model in all watersheds. Flood inundation area by SRTM DEM is similar to the result of 1:5,000 scale digital map in all watersheds and all analysis models. The SRTM DEM shows the most similarity to the digital map than ASTER DEM in all of the watershed scale and analysis models. HEC-GeoRAS and RiverCAD model are efficient models for flood inundation analysis in small watershed and HEC-GeoRAS and Ras Mapper model are efficient in medium to large watershed.

  • According to the purpose of applications, the application program will utilize the most suitable data model and 3D modeling data would be generated based on the selected data model. In these reasons, there are various data sets to represent the same geographical features. The duplicated data sets bring serious problems in system interoperability and data compatibility issues, as well in finance issues of geo-spatial information industries. In order to overcome the problems, this study proposes a spatial data fusion method using topological relationships among spatial objects in the feature classes, called Topological Relation Model (TRM). The TRM is a spatial data fusion method implemented in application-level, which means that the geometric data generated by two different data models are used directly without any data exchange or conversion processes in an application system to provide indoor LBSs. The topological relationships are defined and described by the basic concepts of IndoorGML. After describing the concepts of TRM, experimental implementations of the proposed data fusion method in 3D GIS are presented. In the final section, the limitations of this study and further research are summarized.

  • The objective of the study is to develop a GIS-based flood map. Hydraulic model (HEC-RAS) is linked with hydrologic model (HEC-HMS) for flood map. Geospatial data processors, HEC-GeoHMS and HEC-GeoRAS, are used for operating HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS. HEC-HMS was calibrated and validated at the Hwa-Ong watershed. HEC-HMS was used for calculating runoff from the Hwa-Ong watershed which consisted of Nam-Yang, Ja-An, U-Eun river sub-watersheds, and HEC-RAS was applied and validated for river flow routing at the Hwa-Ong watershed. The simulated results from HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS were reasonably good compared with the observed data. HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS were applied to simulate flooding from probability rainfall at the Hwa-Ong watershed, and the simulated result was used to develop a flood map. Flood map developed in this study will be used for mitigating and predicting the flood damages.

  • Rainfall-Runoff Analysis in Whangryong River Basin was made using HEC-HMS and HEC-GeoHMS. The Basin was divided into three sub-basins using HEC-CeoHMS and GIS. Then, GIS input data were derived from each sub-basins. SCS CN runoff-volume model, Snyder's UH direct-runoff model, exponential recession baseflow model and Muskingum routing model in HEC-HMS were used to simulate the runoff volume using selected rainfall event and the parameters were optimized. Peak flowrate calculated using optimized parameters was compared to the observed flowrate in the basin. The result proved to be good agreement with each other. Optimized parameters in this local basin can be used to calculate the peak flowrate in the future.

  • The analysis of the spatial extent of flood inundation is important for flood mitigation. Geographic Information System (GIS) has advantage of analyzing spatial distributed data. Hydrologic Engineering Center's River Analsysis System(HEC-RAS) with HEC-GeoRAS was used to analyze flood inundation. HEC-GeoRAS, which is an ArcView GIS extension designed to process geospatial data for HEC-RAS, is a useful tool for storing, managing, analyzing, and displaying spatially distributed data. Rational formula and 24-hr duration probability precipitation data of Suwon meteorological station were used to estimate the flood runoff. And water profiles were calculated using the HEC-RAS model with HEC-GeoRAS. The flooded region is 8.24ha when 50-yr probability precipitation was applied and 8.8ha when 100-yr was applied to Bahlan study watershed which is located in Whasung county, Kyunggi province, having an area of $29.79km^{2}$.

  • According to the NGIS (National Geographic Information System) project conducted since 1995, the central and local government has been accumulating huge amount of geospatial data. Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport started its GeoSpatial open platform (V-World) service in January 2012, also offering a wide range of functions and services. However, the National GeoSpatial open platform is still woefully deficient for the users to find their desired data, lack of data for private business area, insufficient in publicity of local government and public-private partnerships. Through analyzing current research trend after GeoSpatial open platform served for three years, study on overseas expansion, system links, service improvement, utilization and future strategy has been mainly conducted. This study, by analyzing the advanced overseas GeoSpatial platform as well as domestic research trend and combining the concept of new technology, business platform and SMG (Seoul Metropolitan Government)'s GeoSpatial platform, proposes a policy for the construction of future GeoSpatial Open Platform model.

  • The rational polynomial coefficients (RPC) model is a generalized sensor model that is used as an alternative solution for the physical sensor model for IKONOS of the Space Imaging. As the number of sensors increases along with greater complexity, and the standard sensor model is needed, the applicability of the RPC model is increasing. The RPC model has the advantages in being able to substitute for all sensor models, such as the projective, the linear pushbroom and the SAR. This report aimed to generate a RPC model from the physical sensor model of the KOMPSAT-1(Korean Multi-Purpose Satellite) and aerial photography. The KOMPSAT-1 collects 510~730 nm panchromatic imagery with a ground sample distance (GSD) of 6.6 m and a swath width of 17 km by pushbroom scanning. The least square solution was used to estimate the RPC. In addition, data normalization and regularization were applied to improve the accuracy and minimize noise. This study found that the RPC model is suitable for both KOMPSAT-1 and aerial photography.

  • Time series analysis is a frequently effective method of constructing model and prediction in data processing of deformation monitoring. The monitoring data sample must to be as more as possible and time intervals are equal roughly so as to construct time series model accurately and achieve reliable prediction. But in the project practice of GPS deformation monitoring, the monitoring data sample can't be obtained too much and time intervals are not equal because of being restricted by all kinds of factors, and it contains many variates in the deformation model moreover. It is very important to study the data processing method for small samples and multi-variates time series in GPS deformation monitoring. A new method of establishing small samples and multi-variates deformation model and prediction model are put forward so as to resolve contradiction of small samples and multi-variates encountered in constructing deformation model and improve formerly data processing method of deformation monitoring. Based on the system theory, a deformation body is regarded as a whole organism; a time-dependence linear system model and a time-dependence bilinear system model are established. The dynamic parameters estimation is derived by means of prediction fit and least information distribution criteria. The final example demonstrates the validity and practice of this method.

  • In this study, data linking module called GeoSWMM was developed using a typical secondary flooding model SWMM in order to improve the accuracy of the input data of SWMM and to map hourly inundation estimation areas that were not represented in the conventional inundation map. GeoSWMM is a data linking module of GIS and SWMM, which can generate a SWMM project file directly from sewer network GIS data. Utilizing the GeoSWMM the project file of SWMM model was constructed in the study area, Seocho 2-dong, Seoul. The actual flooding has occurred September 21, 2010 and the actual rainfall data were used for flood simulation. As a result, the outflow started from 2 PM due to the lack of water flow capacity of the sewage system. Based on the results, hourly inundation estimation maps were produced and compared with flood train map in 2010. The comparison showed about 66% matching in the overlap of inundation areas. By utilizing GeoSWMM that was developed in this study, it is easy to build the sewer network data for SWMM. In addition, the creation of hourly inundation estimation map using SWMM will be much help to flood disaster prevention plan.

  • For the reliable prediction of spatial geotechnical data, a procedure to build the Geotechnical Information System (GTIS) based on geo-knowledge within the frame of GIS technology was developed by introducing a couple of new concepts of the extended area containing the study area and the additional site visit for acquiring surface geological data. To build the GTIS for Gyeongju as the case study of regional model application, intensive site investigations and pre-existing geotechnical data collections were performed and additional site visit was also carried out for acquiring surface geo-layer data in accordance with the developed procedure. Within the GTIS based on geo-knowledge for Gyeongiu area, the spatially distributed geo-layers across the extended area were predicted using the geostatistical kriging method and those for the study area were extracted. Furthermore, the spatial distribution maps for the thickess of geo-layers and the depth to bedrock were constructed for the practical use in geotechnical field. It was evaluated that the GTIS based on geo-knowledge developed in this study is superior to the conventional geotechnical GIS in terms of both the standard deviation and the geological expert judgment.
