  • Purpose: System availability and life cycle cost are often used to evaluate the system performance and is influenced by the operation and maintenance characteristic. In this paper, we propose the method to improve life cycle cost and satisfy the target availability through redundancy allocation. Methods: We consider the redundancy is available at all items in multi level system. Thus, we assume that sub-assembly, module, components can be duplicated. Simulation and genetic algorithm are employed to optimize redundancy allocation. Results: Target availability is higher, the life cycle cost is increased. In addition, the items for redundancy are selected at higher level in multi level system if target availability is higher. Conclusion: We could know that target availability affects the duplication number of items and the selection of redundancy items. For further study, we will consider new optimization algorithms to compare with the proposed GA algorithm and improve optimization performance.

  • An improved Reactor Regulating System (RRS) logic architecture, which is combined with genetic algorithm (GA), is implemented in this work. It is devised to provide an optimal solution to the current RRS. The current system works desirably and has contributed to safe and stable nuclear power plant operation. However, during the ascent and descent section of the reactor power, the RRS output reveals a relatively high steady-state error, and the output also carries a considerable level of overshoot. In an attempt to consolidate conservatism and minimize the error, this work proposes to apply GA to RRS and suggests reconfiguring the system. Prior to the use of GA, reverse engineering is implemented to build a Simulink-based RRS model. Reengineering is followed to produce a newly configured RRS to generate an output that has a reduced steady-state error and diminished overshoot level. A full-scope APR1400 simulator is used to examine the dynamic behaviors of RRS and to build the RRS Simulink model.

  • We report two cases of cleidocranial dysplasia, which was managed without significant craniofacial osteotomy. A mother and daughter, both of normal intelligence, presented with central forehead depression, mid-face hypoplasia, and blepharoptosis. The fact that they have an identically deformed face implied a genetic basis. In both patients, radiologic evaluation revealed the underdeveloped maxilla, persistent fontanelle opening, and cleidal aplasia. Clinical findings and radiologic studies were consistent with the diagnosis of cleidocranial dysplasia. Both patients underwent forehead plasty via bicoronal approach, augmentation rhinoplasty using tip plasty, and epicanthoplasty. In addition, the mother underwent malar augmentation using Medpor implantation and reduction genioplasty. The patients did not experience any postoperative complication and remained satisfied with the operation at 6-year follow-up.

  • This paper presents an unified method which solves real and reactive power dispatch problems for the economic operation of power systems using evolutionary computation such as genetic algorithms(GA), evolutionary programming(EP), and evolution strategy(ES). Many conventional methods to this problem have been proposed in the past, but most of these approaches have the common defect of being caught to a local minimum solution. The proposed methods, applied to the IEEE 30-bus system, were run for 10 other exogenous parameters and composed of P-optimization module and Q-optimization module. Each simulation result, by which evolutionary computations are compared and analyzed, shows the possibility of applications of evolutionary computation to large scale power systems.

  • In this paper, we design a Power System Stabilizer for a Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor(TCSC-PSS) for enhancement of power system stability. Here, PSS parameters are optimized using Genetic Algorithm(GA) in order to maintain optimal operation of TCSC. Simulation results show that the proposed control technique is superior to a conventional PSS in dynamic responses over the wide range of operating conditions and is convinced robustness and reliableness in view of structure.

  • In power system planing and operation, voltage and reactive power control are very important. The voltage deviation and system losses can be reduced through control of reactive power sources. In general, there are several different reactive power sources, we used UPFC and switched shunt capacitor to improve the voltage profile and to reduce system losses in this study. Since there are many switched shunt capacitors in power system, so it is necessary to coordinate these switched shunt capacitors. In this study, Genetic Algorithm(GA) is used to find optimal coordination of UPFC and switched shunt capacitors in a local area of power system. In case study, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated in KEPCO's power system. The simulation is performed by PSS/E.

  • In this paper, a prototype of cooperative work model for multi-robots system is introduced and the evolutionary approach is applied to generate the motions for the cooperative works of multi-robots system using genetic algorithm. The cooperative tasks can be performed by a humanoid robot and a mobile robot to deliver objects from shelves. Generation of the humanoid motions such as pick up, rotation, and place operation for the cooperative works are evolved. Modeling and computer simulation for the cooperative robots system are executed in Webots environments. Experimental results show the feasible and reasonable solutions for humanoid cooperative tasks are obtained.

  • This paper presents a concurrent design approach that deals with manufacturing cell formation and cellular layout in Cellular Manufacturing System. Manufacturing cell formation is to group machines into machine cells dedicated to manufacture of part families, and cellular layout problem determines layout of the manufacturing cells within shop and layout of the machines within a cell. In this paper, a concurrent approach for design of machine cell and cellular layout is developed considering manufacturing parameters such as alternative process plans, alternative machines, production volume and processing time of part, and cost per unit time of operation. A mathematical model which minimizes total cost consisting of machine installation cost, machine operating cost, and intercell and intracell movements cost of part is proposed. A hybrid method based on genetic algorithm is proposed to solve the manufacturing cell formation and cellular layout design problem concurrently. The performance of the hybrid method is examined on several problems.

  • In this study, a customized model (CM) for the efficient operation of cold chain logistics considering the hypergeometric distribution is proposed. The CM focuses on the segmentation market of ready-to-eat foods and juices made from fresh materials. Companies should determine the amount of production by predicting consumer preferences and quantity to ensure high-efficiency production. The CM is represented as a mathematical formulation and implemented using the genetic algorithm (GA). Addition, the relative weights of CM are calculated. Further, the calculated weights are applied to the GA. In the numerical experiment, hypergeometric distribution is used to calculate the relative weights between the range of production quantities and the customized amount. Experiment results are the values of relative weights and the comparison results by average values of handling cost, total cost and CPU time. Finally, the significance of this study is summarized and a future research direction is remarked in conclusion.
