  • This paper describes preventive control for transient stability. Preventive control encompasses in general a twofold problem : Severity assessment of a instability originating from the occurrence of a dangerous contingency, and Choice of an action able to stabilize it. In this paper we assess contingencies in a power systems using PASF(Power Angle Shape Filtering) and control power systems by a generation rescheduling. The proposed method is applied to prevent loss of synchronism of all the generators at a site, KEPCO Systems.

  • In designing System Protection Schemes (SPSs) in power systems, protecting transmission network against extreme undesired conditions becomes a significant challenge in mitigating the transmission line overloading. This paper presents an intelligent Special Protection and Control Scheme (SPCS) using of Differential Evolution with Adaptive Mutation (DEAM) approach to obtain the optimum generation rescheduling to solve the transmission line overloading problem in system contingency conditions. DEAM algorithm employs the attraction-repulsion idea that is applied in the electromagnetism-like algorithm to support the mutation process of the conventional Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm. Different N-1 contingency conditions under base and increase load demand are considered in this paper. Simulation results have been compared with those acquired from Genetic Algorithm (GA) application. Minimum severity index has been considered as the objective function. The final results show that the presented DEAM method offers better performance than GA in terms of faster convergence and less generation fuel cost. IEEE 30-bus test system has been used to prove the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithm.

  • Power utilities must satisfy both supplying high quality power economically and reducing EMF levels. In general, in order to reduce EMF levels from transmission line, it is effective to install shielding wires, configure wires with minimal space or modify structure of other conductors, etc., but these techniques require much cost and time. To some extent, the EMF levels associated with critical transmission lines can be reduced by redistributing the scheduled power generation, since it can change the power flows. There this technique can be readily applied without modifying other structures. This paper considers the OPF(Optimal Power Flow) with the EMF constraints in transmission lines to determine the power generation redistributions and demonstrates numerically the effectiveness of the approach.

  • In 2003, there was a wide-area blackout in the United States and Canada. More than fifty million people underwent power failure and the estimated financial loss was about four billion dollars. By such wide-area blackouts, the interest in voltage stability has increased gradually. In order to maintain the voltage stability, the preventive control is essential for a contingency. In this paper, a proper preventive control is determined for defined severe contingencies. Among the preventive control methods (generation rescheduling, load curtailment, tap adjusting, injecting the shunt capacitor, and so on.), this paper presents the injection of shunt capacitors by the sensitivity analysis of the voltage stability assessment for preventive controls. The 2006-2010 KEPCO summer peak system is used in case studies.

본 논문에서는 Multi-Terminal Voltage Source Converter High Voltage Direct Current (VSC-MTDC)와 Bettary Energy Storage System (BESS)가 결합된 Hybrid Integrated system (HIS)를 통해 발전기 리스케줄링을 위한 최적화 기법을 제안한다.

  • This paper describes the optimization problem of real power rescheduling and present an algorithm based linear programming for studying the load-shedding and generation reallocation problem when a portion of the transmission system is disabled and at power flow solution cannot be obtained for the overload of some lines. And in case initial is infeasible, solution could not be converge. So this paper gives an algorithm being lie infeasible quantities within limit. The paper describes a LP-based algorithm to obtain the solution in power dispatch related to overload situations in power system and it is easily extened under various objective. The optimization procedures is based in linear programming with bounded variables and use the multi-segment curve method for a objective function and the validity of the algorithm is verified with two examples : 10-bus system and 57-bus system.

  • Several prediction model of penetration rate (PR) of tunnel boring machines (TBMs) have been focused on applying to design stage. In construction stage, however, the expected PR and its trends are changed during tunneling owing to TBM excavation skills and the gap between the investigated and actual geological conditions. Monitoring the PR during tunneling is crucial to rescheduling the excavation plan in real-time. This study proposes a sequential prediction method applicable in the construction stage. Geological and TBM operating data are collected from Gunpo cable tunnel in Korea, and preprocessed through normalization and augmentation. The results show that the sequential prediction for 1 ring unit prediction distance (UPD) is R2≥0.79; whereas, a one-step prediction is R2≤0.30. In modeling algorithm, a gradient boosted regression tree (GBRT) outperformed a least square-based linear regression in sequential prediction method. For practical use, a simple equation between the R2 and UPD is proposed. When UPD increases R2 decreases exponentially; In particular, UPD at R2=0.60 is calculated as 28 rings using the equation. Such a time interval will provide enough time for decision-making. Evidently, the UPD can be adjusted depending on other project and the R2 value targeted by an operator. Therefore, a calculation process for the equation between the R2 and UPD is addressed.
