  • Solar energy has been known as a successful alternative energy source, however it requires a large area to build power generation facilities compared to other energy sources such as nuclear power. Weather factors such as rainy weather or night time impact on solar power generation because of lack of insolation and sunshine. In addition, solar power generation is vulnerable to external elements such as changes in temperature and fine dust. There are four seasons in the Republic of Korea hereby variations of temperature, insolation and sunshine are broad. Currently factors that cause find dust are continuously flowing in to Korea from abroad. In order to build a solar power plant, a large area is required for a limited domestic land hereby selecting the optimal location for the plant that maximizes the efficiency of power generation is necessary. Therefore, this research analyze the optimal site for solar power generation plant by implementing analytic hierarchy process based on weather factors such as fine dust. In order to extract weather factors that impact on solar power generation, this work conducts a case study which includes a correlation analysis between weather information and power generation.

  • Background and objectives: One-person households are the fastest growing family type in Korea. They bring social concerns such as weakened social integration, increasing poverty and social isolation. They are not homogeneous but heterogeneous groups depending on their socio-demographic characteristics including generation. This study compared the life satisfaction level as well as factors affecting it among the three one-person household generations Methods: The 13th wave of the Korea Welfare Panel dataset with 1,187 respondents was utilized. For data analysis Chi-square test, analysis of variance and hierarchical regression analysis were employed. Generations are divided into three, namely young adult (20-39), the middle-aged (40-64) and the elderly (65 and over). Result: The life satisfaction level was highest among the young adult one-person household generation, followed by the middle-aged and the elderly generation. The common factors affecting life satisfaction of the three generations were physical as well as mental health, including self-esteem and depression. However, there were more factors different from generation to generation. As for the young adult, age, religion, and smoking were significant. As for the middle aged and the elderly, gender (male) and income were significant. Additionally, age, home-ownership and drinking were significant to the elderly generation. Conclusions: As there are differences as well as similarities among the three generations, policies for one-person households need to be devised considering these findings. For all generations, both physical and mental health policies are needed. For young adult strengthening social relations, providing decent jobs, and promoting anti-smoking policy are major agenda, and for the middle-aged and the elderly, assisting in social capital accumulation (for male), providing stable jobs and diverse leisure activities, and securing income. Additionally, for the elderly, expanding the social security system and housing support are needed.

  • In respect of global environment protection and efficient utilization of energy, co-generation systems, which have greatly higher efficiency than the other generations, have been developed and put to practical use. Assuming that the co-generation system would be operating in H-Department of Kwang-ju city, this paper calculates the difference between the heat and electricity rates by the conventional method and the co-generation system considers the cost of new investment and analyzes introduction economics based on the return on investment. The introduction is turned out to be recommendable, since the return of investment for co-generation equipment is about five years when the co-generation profits in heat and electricity rate. Additionally, accounting for interest rate drop, improvement of environmental matters or electricity rate increase, it is shown to be even more economical.

  • This study identified and compared family values within and across different generations concerning gender roles, attitudes toward diverse families, children, and parental roles. Data were obtained from the 2020 Seoul Family Report Survey. There were 1,949 study subjects, including first- and second-generation baby boomers and individuals in generations X, Y, and Z in Korea. Latent profile analyses were conducted using M-plus. Perceptions and views concerning family values were classified into different types. The main findings were as follows. Two types were identified among first baby boomers, and three were identified among second baby boomers. Most of the first and second baby boomers belonged to the "moderate" type. Two types were detected among those in Generation X. Regarding gender roles, most views of Generation X were slightly progressive, while their other family values were more moderate. Three types were identified among those in Generation Y: "progressive," "moderate," and "very liberal." Generation Z was identified as a "progressive" group. This study provides basic data to explore the direction of the coexistence of generations by identifying and comparing diverse family values within and across generations.

  • As many researchers want to predict or assess more about wind condition and wind power generation, CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis method is very good way to do predict or assess wind condition and power generation. But CFD analysis is needed much knowledge of aerodynamics and physical fluid theory. In this paper, Auto-Wind CFD analysis program will be introduced. User does not need specific knowledge of CFD or fluid theory. This program just needs topographical data and wind data for initial condition. Then all of process is running automatically without any order of user. And this program gives for user to select and set initial condition for advanced solving CFD. At the last procedure of solving, Auto-Wind program shows analysis of topography and wind condition of target area. Moreover, Auto-Wind can predict wind power generation with calculation in the program. This Auto-Wind analysis program will be good tool for many wind power researchers in real field.

  • An automatic quadrilateral mesh generator for large deformation finite element analysis such as metal forming simulation was developed. The NURBS interpolation method is used for modeling arbitrary 2-D free surface. This mesh generation technique is the modified paving algorithm, which is an advancing front technique with element-by-element resolving method for paving boundary intersection problem. The mesh density for higher analysis accuracy and less analysis time can be easily controlled with high-density points, maximum and minimum element size. A couple of application to large deformation finite element analysis is given as an example, which shows versatility and applicability of the proposed approach and the developed mesh generator for large deformation finite element analysis.

  • McCARD is a Monte Carlo (MC) neutron-photon transport simulation code. It has been developed exclusively for the neutronics design of nuclear reactors and fuel systems. It is capable of performing the whole-core neutronics calculations, the reactor fuel burnup analysis, the few group diffusion theory constant generation, sensitivity and uncertainty (S/U) analysis, and uncertainty propagation analysis. It has some special features such as the anterior convergence diagnostics, real variance estimation, neutronics analysis with temperature feedback, $B_1$ theory-augmented few group constants generation, kinetics parameter generation and MC S/U analysis based on the use of adjoint flux. This paper describes the theoretical basis of these features and validation calculations for both neutronics benchmark problems and commercial PWR reactors in operation.

  • The results of measurements of shear current induced in water by wind in wind wave tunnel are presented briefly. The shear current distributions are found to fit reasonably well an exponentiall form. This form was used to estimate surface velocity and boundary layer thickness used in stability analysis. An analysis of hydrodynamic stability of the shear current was carried out, using a broken line as an approximate profile, to see the stability as a possible mechanism of wind wave generation. Comparison between experimental results and theoretical ones shows that there exists a large discrepancy particularly in phase velocity and hydrodynamic instability of the shear current seems not to be the basic mechanism of wind wave generation.
