Gamma distributions are some of the most popular models for hydrological processes. In this paper, a very flexible family which contains the gamma distribution as a particular case is introduced. Evidence of flexibility is shown by examining the shape of its pdf and the associated hazard rate function. A comprehensive treatment of the mathematical properties is provided by deriving expressions for the nth moment, moment generating function, characteristic function, Renyi entropy and the asymptotic distribution of the extreme order statistics. Estimation and simulation issues are also considered. Finally, a detailed application to drought data from the State of Nebraska is illustrated.
A unified mathematical model of phase-lag Green-Naghdi magneto-thermoelasticty theories based on fractional derivative heat transfer for perfectly conducting media in the presence of a constant magnetic field is given. The GN theories as well as the theories of coupled and of generalized magneto-thermoelasticity with thermal relaxation follow as limit cases. The resulting nondimensional coupled equations together with the Laplace transforms techniques are applied to a half space, which is assumed to be traction free and subjected to a thermal shock that is a function of time. The inverse transforms are obtained by using a numerical method based on Fourier expansion techniques. The predictions of the theory are discussed and compared with those for the generalized theory of magneto-thermoelasticity with one relaxation time. The effects of Alfven velocity and the fractional order parameter on copper-like material are discussed in different types of GN theories.
In this paper, we considered the following four-point boundary value problem $\{{x"(t)+h(t)f(t,x(t),x'(t))=0,\;0<t<1\atop%20x'(0)=ax(\xi),\;x'(1)=bx(\eta)}\$. where $0\;<\;{\xi}\;<\;{\eta}\;<\;1,\;{\delta}\;=\;ab{\xi}\;-\;ab{\eta}\;+\;a\;-\;b\;<\;0,\;0\;<\;a\;<\;\frac{1}{\xi},\;0\;<\;b\;<\;\frac{1}{\eta}$. After the discussion of the Green function of the corresponding homogeneous system, we establish some criteria for the existence of positive solutions by using the generalized Leggett-William's fixed point theorem. The interesting point is the expression of the Green function, which is a difficulty for multi-point BVP.
A Krawtchouk polynomial is introduced as the classical Mac-Williams identity, which can be expressed in weight-enumerator-free form of a linear code and its dual code over a Hamming scheme. In this paper we find a new explicit expression for the $p$-number and the $q$-number, which are more generalized notions of the Krawtchouk polynomial in the P-polynomial schemes by using an extended version of a discrete Green's function. As corollaries, we obtain a new expression of the Krawtchouk polynomial over the Hamming scheme and the Eberlein polynomial over the Johnson scheme. Furthermore, we find another version of the MacWilliams identity over a Hamming scheme.
This paper deals with frequency analysis of Euler-Bernoulli beams carrying an arbitrary number of Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic dampers, subjected to harmonic loads. Multiple external/internal dampers occurring at the same position along the beam axis, modeling external damping devices and internal damping due to damage or imperfect connections, are considered. The challenge is to handle simultaneous discontinuities of the response, in particular bending-moment/rotation discontinuities at the location of external/internal rotational dampers, shear-force/deflection discontinuities at the location of external/internal translational dampers. Following a generalized function approach, the paper will show that exact closed-form expressions of the frequency response under point/polynomial loads can readily be derived, for any number of dampers. Also, the exact dynamic stiffness matrix and load vector of the beam will be built in a closed analytical form, to be used in a standard assemblage procedure for exact frequency response analysis of frames.
In this paper, the wave propagation in a generalized thermo elastic plate embedded in an elastic medium (Winkler model) is studied based on the Lord-Schulman (LS) and Green-Lindsay (GL) generalized two dimensional theory of thermo elasticity. Two displacement potential functions are introduced to uncouple the equations of motion. The frequency equations that include the interaction between the plate and foundation are obtained by the traction free boundary conditions using the Bessel function solutions. The numerical calculations are carried out for the material Zinc and the computed non-dimensional frequency and attenuation coefficient are plotted as the dispersion curves for the plate with thermally insulated and isothermal boundaries. The wave characteristics are found to be more stable and realistic in the presence of thermal relaxation times and the foundation parameter. A comparison of the results for the case with no thermal effects shows well agreement with those by the membrane theory.
In this paper, the wave propagation in generalized thermo elastic plate immersed in fluid is studied based on the Lord-Shulman (LS) and Green-Lindsay (GL) generalized two dimensional theory of thermo elasticity. Two displacement potential functions are introduced to uncouple the equations of motion. The frequency equations that include the interaction between the plate and fluid are obtained by the perfect-slip boundary conditions using the Bessel function solutions. The numerical calculations are carried out for the material Zinc and the computed non-dimensional frequency, phase velocity and attenuation coefficient are plotted as the dispersion curves for the plate with thermally insulated and isothermal boundaries. The wave characteristics are found to be more stable and realistic in the presence of thermal relaxation times and the fluid interaction.
General algorithm is developed for the prediction of internal flow-induced noise. This algorithm is based on the integral formula derived by using the General Green Function, Lighthill's acoustic analogy and Curl's extension of Lighthill's. Novel approach of this algorithm is that the integral formula is so arranged as to predict frequency-domain acoustic signal at any location in a duct by using unsteady flow data in space and time, which can be provided by the Computational Fluid Dynamics Techniques. This semi-analytic model is applied to the prediction of internal aerodynamic noise from a throttle valve in an automotive engine. The predicted noise levels from the throttle valve are compared with actual measurements. This illustrative computation shows that the current method penn its generalized predictions of flow noise generated by bluff bodies and turbulence in flow ducts.

Goodness-of-fit techniques are an important topic in statistical analysis. Censored data occur frequently in survival experiments; therefore, many studies are conducted when data are censored. In this paper we mainly consider test statistics based on the empirical distribution function (EDF) to test normal distributions with unknown location and scale parameters when data are randomly censored. The most famous EDF test statistic is the Kolmogorov-Smirnov; in addition, the quadratic statistics such as the $Cram{\acute{e}}r-von$ Mises and the Anderson-Darling statistic are well known. The $Cram{\acute{e}}r-von$ Mises statistic is generalized to randomly censored cases by Koziol and Green (Biometrika, 63, 465-474, 1976). In this paper, we generalize the Anderson-Darling statistic to randomly censored data using the Kaplan-Meier estimator as it was done by Koziol and Green. A simulation study is conducted under a particular censorship model proposed by Koziol and Green. Through a simulation study, the generalized Anderson-Darling statistic shows the best power against almost all alternatives considered among the three EDF statistics we take into account.
