The determination of peripheral nerve conduction velocity is an important part to electrodiagnosis. Its value as neurophysiologic investigative procedure has been known for many years but normal value of median and ulnar motor nerve was poorly reported in Korea. To evaluate of median and ulnar motor nerve terminal latency, amplitude of CMAP(compound muscle action potential), conduction velocity and F-wave latency for obtain clinically useful reference value. 71 normal volunteers(age, 19-65 years; 142 hands) examined who has no history of peripheral neuropathy, diabetic mellitus, chronic renal failure, endocrine disorders, anti-cancer medicine, anti-tubercle medicine, alcoholism, trauma, radiculopathy. Nicolet Viking II was use for detected terminal latency, amplitude of CMAP, conduction velocity and F-wave latency of median and ulnar motor nerve. Data analysis was performed using SPSS. Descriptive analysis was used for obtain mean and standard deviation, independent t-test was used to compare between Rt and Lt side also compare between different in genders. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Median motor nerve terminal latency was right 3.00ms, left 2.99ms and there was no significantly differences between right and left side and genders. 2. Median motor nerve amplitude of CMAP was right 17.26mV, left 1750mV and there was no significantly differences between right and left side and genders. 3. Median motor nerve conduction velocity was right 57.89m/sec, left 58.03m/sec and there was no significantly differences between right and left side and genders. 4. Median motor nerve F-wave latency was right 25.74ms, left 25.59ms and there was significantly differences between genders. 5. Ulnar motor nerve terminal latency was right 2.38ms, left 2.45ms and there was significantly differences between right and left side. 6. Ulnar motor nerve amplitude of CMAP was right 15.99mV, left 16.02mV and there was no significantly differences between right and left side and genders. 7. Ulnar motor nerve conduction velocity was right 60.35m/sec, left 59.73m/sec and there was no significantly differences between right and left side and genders. 8. Objectives: This study conducted an age-period-cohort (APC) analysis of trends in healthy lifestyle behaviors in Japan. Methods: We used National Health and Nutrition Survey data on salt intake and prevalence of smoking, drinking, and physical activity between 1995 and 2018 in Japan. Age groups were defined from 20 years to 69 years old in 10-year increments. Cohorts were defined for each age group of each year with a 1-year shift, and cohorts born in 1926-1935 (first cohort) until 1989-1998 (last cohort) were examined. We conducted a Bayesian APC analysis, calculating estimated values for each behavior by age group, period, and cohort. Results: Estimated salt intake decreased from cohorts born in the 1930s to the 1960s, but increased thereafter in both genders, and the magnitude of increase was larger for men. Estimated smoking prevalence increased in the cohorts starting from the 1930s for men and the 1940s for women, and then decreased starting in the cohorts born in the 1970s for both genders. Although estimated drinking prevalence decreased starting in the cohorts born in approximately 1960 for men, for women it increased until the cohorts born in approximately 1970. Estimated physical activity prevalence decreased starting in the cohorts born in the 1940s in both genders, but the magnitude of decrease was larger for women. Conclusions: Trends in cohort effects differed by gender, which might be related to changes in the social environment for women. Improvements in dietary and exercise habits are required in more recently born cohorts of both genders.
The goal of this research was to determine whether gender differences exist in impact force and impact shock variables at stance phase during a preferred running. Ten male and ten female subjects volunteered to participate in this study. Impact force was quantified by using a surface-mounted force plate. In addition, Axial accelerations of the tibias and mouth were measured using low-mass accelerometers. Comparison of parameters relating to impact force and impact shock which attained from time domain, and impact shock parameters which were analyzed in frequency domain were made between genders. The conclusions based on results were as follows; 1. There were no significantly differences in impact force, mouth and tibia acceleration peak in time domain between two genders. 2. The male group was greater in impact shock peak of PSD(power spectral density) at the tibia than female group(p<.05), but no differences in active impact of PSD at the tibia and the mouth between two genders. 3. Female subjects exhibited that a peak of impact shock attenuation analyzed in frequency domain moved toward a high frequency, but no difference in time domain between two genders.
Objective: The goal of this study was to determine the center of pressure (CoP) complexity pattern in approximate entropy technique between genders at different conditions of running speed. Background: It is conducted to evaluate the complexity pattern of CoP in the increment of running speed to have insights to injury prediction, stability, and auxiliary aids for the foot. Method: Twenty men (age=22.3±1.5 yrs.; height=176.4±5.4 cm; body weight=73.9±8.2 kg) and Twenty women (age=20.8±1.2 yrs.; height=162.8±5.2 cm; body weight=55.0±6.3 kg) with heel strike pattern were recruited for the study. While they were running at 2.22, 3.33, 4.44 m/s speed on a treadmill (instrumented dual belt treadmills, USA) with a force plate, CoP data were collected for the 10 strides. The complexity pattern of the CoP was analyzed using the ApEn technique. Results: The ApEn of the medial-lateral and antero-posterior CoP in the increment of running speed showed significantly difference within genders (p<.05), but there were not statistically significant between genders at all conditions of running speed. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, CoP complexity pattern in the increment of running speed was limited to be characterized between genders as an indicator to judge the potential injury and stability. Application: In future studies, it is needed to investigate the cause of change for complexity of CoP at various running speed related to this study.
The purposes of this paper are to investigate an effect of weight of material and gender on postural stability and to introduce formulas for those. There were five levels of weights 0, 9, 18, 27 and 36 kg, and two levels of genders were conducted. Eight male and five female subjects participated in this experiment, ten tests were performed for each level of weights to measure the postural stability by using the stability platform. The effect of the genders and the load on the postural stability were statistically analysed by the two way ANOVA test and the regression analysis. The ANOVA test showed that the effect of weights was statistically significant on postural stability to the both male and female subjects. And the postural stability of female subjects was better than that of male subjects. A linear regression formula for the balancing time and the load and a formula for the reduction rate postural stability and the relative load were introduced by the regression analysis.
Purpose: The aim of the study was to assess and identify gender differences in factors associated with prevalence, awareness, and treatment of osteoporosis. Methods: Data for 3,071 men and 3,635 women ($age{\qeq}50$) from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2008~2011 were included. Osteoporosis was defined by World Health Organization T-score criteria. Impact factors and odds ratios were analysed by gender using multivariate logistic regression. Results: Osteoporosis prevalence rates were 7.0% in men and 40.1% in women. Osteopenia rates were 45.5% and 46.0% respectively. Among respondents with osteoporosis, 7.6% men and 37.8% women were aware of their diagnosis. Also 5.7% men with osteoporosis and 22.8% women were treated. Higher prevalence was found among respondents who were older, at lower socioeconomic levels, with lower body mass index and shorter height in both genders, and among women with fracture history, and non-hormonal replacement therapy. Awareness and treatment rates for the risk groups were similar compared to the low risk controls for both genders. Fracture history increased awareness and treatment rates independently for both genders. Women with perceived poor health status and health screening had increased awareness and treatment rates, but not men. Conclusion: Results indicate that postmenopausal women have a higher prevalence of osteoporosis than men and awareness and treatment rates were higher than for men. Despite gender difference in prevalence, osteoporosis was underdiagnosed and undertreated for both genders. Specialized public education and routine health screenings according to gender could be effective strategies to increase osteoporosis awareness and treatment.
The effects of a nutritional education program for first grade middle school students were evaluated from August to December, 2006. The study subjects were 82 boys and 90 girls, residing in Gwangju, Korea. To assess the effects of the nutritional education program, pre- and post-questionnaires examining nutritional knowledge, dietary attitudes, and dietary habits were developed. Paired t-test and repeated measures ANOVA were used to evaluate the effects of the nutritional education program. In the general subject, the main after-school activities were studying, watching TV, and using computer (85.5%), and sports (9.3%), suggesting their low physical activity. Parents (46.5%) were indicated as the source of nutritional education rather than teachers (13.4%). Twenty-five percent of girl students had diet experience of skipping meals (54.6%), suggesting the need of proper nutritional education for adolescents' health care. In dietary attitudes, both genders showed some improvement of recognition after education. In the changes in dietary habits, both genders had a significant effect on 'three meals a day, eating breakfast, and regular meal' after education. After education, the rate of having breakfast everyday increased from 52.4% to 65.9% for boys and from 33.3%to 57.8% for girls. In the changes in nutritional knowledge, the appreciation of the importance of school meals increased in both genders from 50.6% to 80.8% after education. The nutritional knowledge, scores of regular eating and well-mannered eating increased in both genders regardless of the students' characteristics. The study results revealed that this education provided an important motivation to improve basic nutritional knowledge and dietary habit. It is recommended to develop systematic and various educational programs and learning materials tailored to subjects before nutritional education.
This study was designed to investigate the dietary habits, life habits, physical symptoms, and body composition of male and female students attending college in incheon, based on which to encourage proper dietary habits among and enhance the physical and psychological health of college students. The effects of personal characteristics (such as gender, grade level, residence type, means of transportation), health relative life habits (exercise, smoking and alcohol consumption), dietary habits, physical symptoms and body composition measurement were analyzed by using the questionnaire and Inbody. The subject pool was composed of 96 male and 149 female students. Smoking, drinking, exercise, and fruit intake showed significant differences between the genders (p<0.05), whereas meat intake was not significantly different (p>0.05). Differences on dietary habits and the intake of fruit showed significant differences (p<0.05) between the genders. Especially, more female than male students showed a higher frequency of fruit intake. Physical symptoms such as headache, common cold, dizziness, easy fatigue, poor concentration, indigestion and constipation showed significant differences (p<0.05) between the genders, whereas stomatitis, anorexia and pale face were not significantly different (p>0.05). Differences between the genders on body composition, height, weight, BMI, muscle soft lean mass, body fat mass, skeletal muscle mass and waist-hip ratio were also significantly different (p<0.05). The correlation analysis of college students by gender was negative between intake of milk and physical symptoms (p<0.01), whereas intake of cooked food and physical symptoms showed a positive correlation (p<0.01, p<0.05).
The study sample consisted of 40 people who were complaining of current insomnia. The study groups were classified according to their age and gender, each containing 5 males and 5 females in the same age group. All the subjects were measured for heart rate (HR) and complicated degree. 1. In the 20's age group, the complicated degree of the female subjects is found to be much less than that of the males, suggesting that the pathology of insomnia would be more serious in the young females. 2. In the 30's age group, the complicated degree of both genders are decreased but there is no significant discrepancy between the reduced complicated degree. 3. In the 40's age group, the complicated degree of both genders are decreased but there is no significant discrepancy between the reduced complicated degree. 4. In the 50's age group, the complicated degree of both genders are decreased, however the females with postmenopausal conditions show much more reduction in the complicated degree, compared to the male group.
