  • In this paper, an automatic gear inspection system has been developed using the computer aided vision system. Image processing and data analysis algorithms for gear inspection have been investigated and were shown to perform quickly with high accuracy. As a result, dimensions of a gear can be measured upto few micrometer size in real time. In addition, the system can be applied to a practical manufacturing process even under noisy conditions.

  • This paper reviews the existing methods to divide the gear ratios of a multi-stage gear train, and proposes a simulated annealing-based algorithm to find the best gear ratios. The existing methods have their own limitations to be used in practical design, and are also problematic to be automated in a design system. However, the proposed algorithm is a general one which can be applied to gear trains having any number of stages, and offers a satisfactory result in a very short time. It is expected to be useful as a design sub-module of the design system for multi-stage gear drives.

  • Currently, plastic gear is widely used as parts of office equipment and industrial machines, because plastic substance has an advantage of light weight and possible to operate in oil-fewer conditions. However, under cyclic loadings, their occurred repetitive deformation due to weak tensile strength and bending stress rather than metal gear. Furthermore, they have a problem of attrition and breakage owing to frictional heat. For solving these problems, when plastic gear's opponents are metal gear, we should design that plastic gear's tooth be thick and metal gear's tooth be thin. In this research, we developed the program which developing tooth profile of non-standard gears automatically and calculating over-pin diameter for inspection after making gear.

  • The transmission load of gear devices is important factor in the design of gear system. To design gear system precisely, an analysis and calculation methods for transmission load of gears are demanded. The purpose of this study is to develop a computer program for analyzing tooth load sharing of a spur gear system by means of the contact theory. In this paper, load transmission characteristics is identified with elastic contact problem which is assumed to quasi-static equilibrium. The modeling of spur gear tooth is accomplished by application of I-DEAS.

EXPERIMENTAL IDENTIFICATION ON A GEAR WHINE NOISE IN THE AXLE SYSTEM OF A PASSENGER VAN

  • This paper presents practical work on the reduction of gear whine noise. In order to identify the source of the gear whine noise, transfer paths are searched and analyzed by operational deflection shape analysis and experimental modal analysis. It was found that gear whine noise has an air-borne noise path instead of structure-borne noise path. The main sources of air-borne noise were the two global modes caused by the resonance of an axle system. These modes created a vibro-acoustic noise problem. Vibro-acoustic noise can be reduced by controlling the vibration of the noise source. The vibration of noise source is controlled by the modification of structure to avoid the resonance or to reduce the excitation force. In the study, the excitation force of the axle system is attenuated by changing the tooth profile of the hypoid gear. The modification of the tooth profile yields a reduction of transmission error, which is correlated to the gear whine noise. Finally, whine noise is reduced by 10 dBA.

  • In this study, two mathematical models are first constructed to analyze vibration characteristics of a gear train - spindle system of an NC lathe gear box. One is a lumped parameter model which is used for calculating natural frequencies of the torsional vibration, the other is a finite element model for analyzing lateral vibration and critical speeds of the spindle system. In addition, this study examines some possible resonance conditions such as gear mesh frequencies, 1X shaft rpm frequencies over whole operating speed range, and so on. The results may be helpful to design a machine tool gear box with low noise and vibration.

  • In recent year, as the demand about low vibration and noise vehicle is increased constantly. automobile companies try to a lot of things to achieve this demand. Gear rattle vibration become an emergency problem to be cured at idling. There are two kinds method to reduce idle gear rattle vibration One is optimization of clutch damper design parameters(stiffness, hysteresis torque, preload, length of lst stage) the other is system parameters modification(inertia, drag torque, backlash, etc) But these methods are impossible to estimate influence rate of each gearpair on the idle gear rattle vibration. In this study, 14degrees of freedom nonlinear model is developed to analyze influnce rate of each gearpair on the idle gear rattle vibration and the counterplan to reduce the gear noise is suggeted through the shift system modification.

  • 항공기 구성품인 착륙장치 핸들은 항공기 이 착륙 시 착륙장치 작동을 위한 핵심적인 장비이다. 착륙장치 핸들의 개발을 위한 진동시험 중 착륙장치 핸들 내부의 브라켓 파손 현상이 발생하였다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 착륙장치 핸들 개발 시 수행한 진동시험 절차와 진동시험 중 발생한 결함사항에 대한 원인 분석, 설계 개선사항 그리고 검증 결과를 함께 기술하였다.

  • Planetary gear systems have several advantages over traditional gearboxes with parallel axis gear shafts. The planetary gearbox arrangement also creates greater stability due to the even distribution of mass and increased rotational stiffness. However, gears in planetary gear systems occasionally have a short-life due to wear and breakage by repetitive load during operation time. In this study, we evaluated variables of the strength design for each part and conducted structural analysis of seven cases of the planetary gear system. The result of structural analysis was applied to shape optimization method and obtaining the weight lightening designed value. Subsequently, the planetary gear system was performed to ensure the durability of gears during operation time with miner's rule.

기어의 자동설계 시스템 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of Computer-Aided Automatic Design System for Gears)

  • This paper describes a computer aided design system for spur and helical gears. To establish the appropriate program, an integrate approach based on a rule-base system was adopted. This system is implemented on the personal computer and its environment is a commercial CAD package called AutoCAD. This system includes a main program and five sub-modules such as data input module, tooth profile drawing module, strength calculation module, and drawing edit module. In the main program, all the sub-modules are loaded and the type of gear and tooth profile are selected. In the data input module, the variables which are necessary to the design of gear are selected from the database. In the drawing module, from the calculated results, the required gear tooth is produced on the screen. The developed system that aids gear designer provides powerful capabilities for gear design.
