Characteristics of Optical Phase Conjugate Wave Generated by Self-Pumping in Photorefractive $BaTiO_3$ Single Crystal ($BaTiO_3$ 광굴절 결정에서 자기 펌핑에 의해 발생되는 위상공액파의 특성)

  • Self-pumped phase conjugation(SPPC) in BaTiO3 single crystal is experimentally investigated at a wavelength of 514.5nm from an Ar+ laser. The incident Gaussian beam enters the crystal as an extraordinary ray. The maximum SPPC reflectivity of 48% is obtained at incident angle 80 degree. the SPPC wave demonstrates good image reconstruction. The response time (r) of SPPC wave as a function of incident intensity is measured to be r=36$\times$I-0.79sec.

Joint Probability Density Functions for Direct-Detection Optical Receivers

  • We derive joint probability density functions (JPDFs) for two adjacent data from direct-detection optical receivers in dense wavelength-division multiplexing systems. We show that the decision using two data per bit can increase the receiver sensitivity compared with the conventional decision. Our JPDFs can be used for software-defined optical receivers enhancing the receiver sensitivities for intensity-modulated channels.

Deriving a Probabilistic Model for Fatigue Life Based on Physical Failure Mechanism

  • A probabilistic model for fatigue life of a structural component is derived when the component is in a variable-amplitude loading environment. The physical mechanism which governs fatigue failure is used to model the fatigue life. Especially, the judgement of rotational symmetry in the-stress-intensity-factors results in the probability distribution for fatigue life. The probability distribution is related to the familiar truncated Gaussian distribution, which has a single parameter with a direct physical meaning.

  • Since conventional methods for measuring stride length(distance) are many weaknesses, optical methods have been developed to measure stride length(distance) of human pedestrians. IR(Infrared) elements and Power LED(Light Emitting Diode) with two types of lens were used to correlate detected light intensity with stride length(distance). The suggested methods in this study are simple, convenient, and cost effective. The results can be used to analyze walking patterns of normal and disabled men, and to monitor the recovering processes of the disabled patients.

  • In this paper we propose a diffusion neural network model. In this model, each excitatory and inhibitory neuron has the capability of diffusing external excitations. We show that this model can be used for the detection of intensity changes of an input image. The relations between the diffusion coefficient, the iteration number of diffusion, and the detected spatial frequency are analyzed. The calculation time is reduced than that of a LOG(a Laplacian of a Gaussian) method.

  • In this paper, we propose the defect emphasis in TFT-LCD panel image. The defect emphasis image consist of S(Shape) map and B(Brightness) map. S map based on DoG(difference of gaussian) is made with the mura defect shape characteristic. And B map use defect intensity property that defect intensity is higher than background. The experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed defect emphasis method. The results of experiments show the validity of the defect emphasis using the proposed method.

  • The simulation results of the third harmonic conversion with 1.064 um Nd :YAG laser using polarization mismatch method are reported. The third harmonic conversion efficiency was over 65% for the Gaussian incident pulse of $300{\sim}400MW/cm^2$ peak intensity, and over 80% for $3{\sim}4GW/cm^2$ peak intensity pulse. The dependence of the third harmonic conversion efficiency' on the variation of incident polarization angle ${\theta}_p$ and angular discrepancy ${\Delta}{\theta}$ of phase matched angle ${\theta}_m$ is discussed.

  • In this paper, it was investigated the guided field intensity distribution of the channel in the silver & potassium ion-exchange glass-waveguide. The guided field intensity distribution analysis of ion-exchange glass-waveguide was based on the combination of the WKB dispersion relationship method with a Gaussian distribution function of refractive index profile and the Field Shadow method to the modeling of the channel waveguide. As the results of the channel waveguide modeling, it was represented 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional field distribution of ion-exchange glass waveguide.

  • In focused ion beam (FIB) fabrication processes the ion beam intensity with Gaussian profile has a drawback for high resolution machining. In this paper, the fabrication method to modify the beam profile at substrate using silt mask is proposed to increase the machining resolution at high current. Slit mask is utilized to block the part of beam and transmit only high intensity portion. A nano manipulator is utilized to handle the silt mask. Geometrical analysis on fabricated profile through silt mask was conducted. By utilizing proposed method, improvement of machining resolution was achieved.
