  • In the discrete formulation of the bubble stabilized Legendre Galerkin methods, the system of equations includes the artificial viscosity term as the parameter. We investigate the estimation of this parameter to get the least-squares solution which minimizes the sum of the squares of errors at each node points. Some numerical results are reported.

  • In this paper, a new method for calculating capacitance in arbitrarily shape structure is Presented. This new approach based on divergence theorem of Gauss\`s law is acheive by Surface-Contacted Element(SCE) for Gaussian surface. To evaluate accurate capacitance value in nonuniform electric field. in two dimensional analysis the interpolation using the elements which contact one nod (PE: Point-Element) or two nod (FE: Face-Element) is employed. Because the elements contacted with surface are very small compared with total elements in analytic model, SCE method has shorter computing time to calculate capacitance. This proposed method is verified by comparing the simulated results with value obtained by analytic method.

  • In the course of working on the preconditioning $C^1$ polynomial spline collocation method, one has to deal with the exponential decay of $C^1$ Lagrange polynomial splines. In this paper we show the exponential decay of $C^1$ Lagrange polynomial splines using the Chebyshev-Gauss points as the local data points.

  • For numerical evaluation of Cauchy principal value integrals, we present a simple rational function with a parameter satisfying some reasonable conditions. The proposed rational function is employed in coordinate transformation for accelerating the accuracy of the Gauss quadrature rule. The efficiency of the proposed rational transformation method is demonstrated by the numerical result of a selected test example.

  • In this paper, the performance of the decoding schemes using linear MMSE filters in the frequency and time domains and the reinforcement Gauss-Seidel algorithm for the orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) system that can improve robustness under high-speed mobile environments are compared. The reinforcement Gauss-Seidel algorithm can improve the bit error rate performance by suppressing the noise enhancement. The simulation results show that the performance of the decoding scheme using the linear MMSE filter in the frequency domain is severely degraded due to the effect of Doppler shift as the mobile speed increases. In addition, the decoding scheme using the reinforcement Gauss-Seidel algorithm under the channel environment with 120 km/h and 500 km/h speeds outperforms the decoding schemes using linear MMSE filters in the frequency and time domains.

  • We consider a distributed optimal flux control problem: finding the potential of which gradient approximates the target vector field under an elliptic constraint. Introducing the Lagrange multiplier and a change of variables the Euler-Lagrange equation turns into a coupled equation of an elliptic equation and a reaction diffusion equation. The change of variables reduces iteration steps dramatically when the Gauss-Seidel iteration is considered as a solution method. For the elliptic equation solver we consider the Cell Boundary Element (CBE) method, which is the finite element type flux preserving methods.

  • Indoor positioning is highlighted recently, and various kinds of indoor positioning systems are under developments. Since positioning systems have their own characteristics, proper positioning scheme should be chosen according to the required specifications. Positioning methods are classified into time-based and angle-based one. This paper presents the error analysis of time-based and angle-based location methods. Because measurements of these methods are nonlinear, linearizations are needed in both cases to estimate the user position. In the linearization, Gauss-Newton method is used in both cases. To analyze the position error, we investigate the error ellipse parameters that include eccentricity, rotation angle, and the size of ellipse. Simulation results show that the major axes of TOA and AOA method lie in different quadrants at most region of workspace, especially where the geometry is poor. When the TOA/AOA hybrid is employed, it is found that the error ellipse is reduced to the intersection of ellipses of TOA and AOA.

  • In last decades, several linearization methods for the AOA measurements have been proposed, for example, Gauss-Newton method and closed-form solution. Gauss-Newton method can achieve high accuracy, but the convergence of the iterative process is not always ensured if the initial guess is not accurate enough. Closed-form solution provides a non-iterative solution and it is less computational. It does not suffer from convergence problem, but estimation error is somewhat larger. This paper proposes a self-tuning weighted least square AOA algorithm that is a modified version of the conventional closed-form solution. In order to estimate the error covariance matrix as a weight, two-step estimation technique is used. Simulation results show that the proposed method has smaller positioning error compared to the existing methods.

  • Physical parameters in the forward direction of the tractor , which mainly affects the vibration characteristics of the tractor dynamic model, were able to be identified in a short time by using the Gauss-Newton method with extremum searching based on the data obtained from a forced vibration experiment. It was clarified that a period for the updating of the parameter estimates method has effects on the convergence accuracy of identification for the spring constant in the forward direction of the tractor.

  • Most of all methods of determining the preliminary orbit of an artificial Earth satellite are reviewed. The preliminary orbits of the methorological satellite NOAA-10 are determined using the studied methods and are compared with mean orbital elements determined at NASA. Through the comparision the preliminary orbital elements determined with Gauss type methods are more approximate to those of NASA than those calculated with Laplacian type ones. Our results indicate that Taff(1984)'s criticism on the Gauss method must be abandoned and Marsden (1985)'s analysis on the method is correct.
