  • We consider a model of population dynamics whose mortality function is unbounded. We note that the regularity of the solution depends on the growth rate of the mortality near the maximum age. We propose Gauss-Legendre methods along the characteristics to approximate the solution when the solution is smooth enough. It is proven that the scheme is convergent at fourth-order rate in the maximum norm. We also propose discontinuous Galerkin finite element methods to approximate the solution which is not smooth enough. The stability of the method is discussed. Several numerical examples are presented.

  • Temperature distribution of laser diode chip mounted on ideal heat kink was calculated by numerical analysis. In numerical analysis, infinite difference method and Gauss-Scidel iteration was adopted on the basis of two dimensional heat conduction phenomena. As a result, temperature increase of active medium of laser diode driven at 60mA was calculated to be 1.47$^{\circ}C$

  • A new algorithm was given to successively fit the multiexponential function/nonlinear function to data by a weighted least squares method, using Gauss-Newton, Marquardt, gradient and DUD methods for convergence. This study also considers the problem of linear-nonlimear weighted least squares estimation which is based upon the usual Taylor's formula process.

  • To simulate the characteristics of magnetic exchange coupling at the interface of MR/TbCo thin films, the directions of magnetizations were calculated by minimizing energy in the films. Newton method and Gauss-Seidel method were used. The width of M-H curve increased with TbCo anisotropy constant, and with the thickness of the transition region of TbCo layer. Hysteresis loop width became extremely narrow (less than 10 Oe of coercivity), when the TbCo transition region length was $400\;\AA$. Also the hysteresis loop of films with low interfacial exchange coupling constant was similiar to that of short transition region length. When interfacial exchange coupling constant was 1/100 of perfect coupling, hysteresis loop showed a coercivity of less than 10 Oe. Comparing the measured hysteresis loop of a fabricated sample with that of simulated one, exchange coupling con¬stant could be estimated.

  • Numerical characteristics of implicit upwind schemes, such as upwind ADI, line Gauss-Seidel (LGS) and point Gauss-Seidel (LU) algorithms, for Navier-Stokes equations have been investigated. Time-derivative preconditioning method was applied for efficient convergence at low Mach/Reynolds number regime as well as at large grid aspect ratios. All the algorithms were expressed in approximate factorization form and von Neumann stability analysis was performed to identify stability characteristics of the above algorithms in the presence of high grid aspect ratios. Stability analysis showed that for high aspect ratio computations, the ADI and LGS algorithms showed efficient damping effect up to moderate aspect ratio if we adopt viscous preconditioning based on min-CFL/max-VNN time-step definition. The LU algorithm, on the other hand, showed serious deterioration in stability characteristics as the grid aspect ratio increases. Computations for several practical applications also verified these results.

  • Today, the application area and scope of FANET(Flying Ad Hoc Network) has been extended. As a result, FANET related research are actively conducted, but there is no decision yet as the routing protocol for FANET. In this paper, we propose the OLSR-Pds (Prediction with direction and speed) which is added a method to predict status of link for OLSR protocol. The mobility of nodes are modeled using Gauss-Markov algorithm, and relative speed between nodes were calculated by derive equation of movement, and thereby we can predict link status. An experiment for comparing AODV, OLSR and, OLSR-Pds was conducted by three factors such as packet delivery ratio, end to end delay, and routing overhead. In experiment result, we were confirm that OLSR-Pds performance are superior in these three factors. OLSR-Pds has the disadvantage that requires time-consuming calculations for link state and required for computing resources, but we were confirm that OLSR-Pds is suitable for routing to the FANET environment because it has all the characteristics of proactive protocol and reactive protocol.

  • In this study, we consider a recursive procedure to obtain the stationary probability distribution for analyzing Coxian queueing networks with finite queues. This network deals with multiple class customers. Due to the state space representing multiple class customers, the sub-matrices corresponding to states can not be square matrices and can not be inverted. Therefore, we introduce more complex recursive method to avoid the singular problem. The open queueing network that we study consists of 3 parallel first-level sources linked to a single second level queue. We consider two types of schemes for entering a queue. The first scheme is assumed to be the first-blocked-first-enter (FBFE) and the second scheme is the higher-priority-first-enter (HPFE). Arrival and service times are assume to have a Coxian distribution with two phases. Comparison between the resulting using Gauss-Seidel method and recursive procedure will be shown.

  • A higher order plate bending finite element using cubic in-plane displacement profiles is proposed for geometrically nonlinear analysis of thin and thick plates. The higher order plate bending element has been derived from the three dimensional plate-like continuum by discretization of the equations of motion by Galerkin weighted residual method, together with enforcing higher order plate assumptions. Total Lagrangian formulation has been used for geometrically nonlinear analysis of plates and consistent linearization by Newton-Raphson method has been performed to solve the nonlinear equations. The element characteristics have been computed by, selective reduced integration technique using Gauss quadrature to avoid shear locking phenomenon in case of extremely thin plates. Several numerical examples were solved with FEAP macro program to demonstrate versatility and accuracy of the present higher order plate bending element.

  • When the thickness becomes so small as in the case of the trailing edge of the propeller blade or when the curvature of the surface varies rapidly as in ship stem, the existing panel method employing a flat-surface panel, obtained by collapsing the original non-planar surface into its mean location, suffers the leakage problem and also gives inaccurate induction upon the field point very close to the panel. The hyperboloidal panel deals with the induction from the dipole distributed on the non-planar surface without approximation, overcoming the defects of the flat-surface panel. This paper introduces two distinct derivations of the formulae to compute the integral for the potential induced by a dipole of uniform density distributed on a non-planar hyperboloidal surface element. One method is based on the Gauss-Bonnet theorem and the other is based on the transformation of the surface integral into a line integral.

  • In this paper, we propose a selective extended Kalman filter based accurate pose estimation of the rigid body using a sensor fusion method. The pose of a rigid body can be estimated roughly by the Gauss-Newton method using the acceleration data and geomagnetic data, which can be refined with vision information and the gyro sensor information. However strong external interference noise makes the rough pose estimation difficult. In this paper, according to the measurement level of the external interference noise, the extended Kalman filter selectively uses mostly vision and gyro sensor information to increase the estimation credibility under strong interference noise environment.
