Estimating the emission rate of VOCs from a gasoline industry at national level can be a challenging take even though the estimation is mean-based. However, using the procedures in the US EPA AP-42 guidelines, it is possible to approximate the mean industry emission rate once enough data are available. However, this estimate can be misled in the sense that there exist many stochastic factors in the EPA\\`s estimation procedures and also throughout the marketing channels of gasoline industry. Addressing the stochasticity problem in EPA\\`s procedure is hard to tackle because the detailed data needed to execute the estimation are not usually available even from refiners. Instead, this research tries to stay focused on the second type of stochasticity issue, raised from the mean0based metrological and marketing practice data collected from the 4 major refiners. To do so emission raters from each marketing channels (8 marketing points by 3 transportation types and by storage facilities of 4 refiners) are estimated monthly, following AP-42 procedures and using Tank 4.0. Once these estimates are acquired, the distribution of VOC emission rate for each marketing channel of all 4 refiners is estimated through simulation method using @Risk. The mean-based emission rates are weighted by company quantities to estimate the emission rate from the whole gasoline industry. Simple economic implication is provided, based on the result. This study found that, on the mean-bases, about 0.66% of gasoline marketed are evaporated into air. Considering the stochasticity in the estimation, about 90% of simulation results fell into the range of 0.65 to 0.68%. For 90% chance, the estimated economic loss is $54.65 million to $57.17 million, not counting the cost caused by air quality degradation and associated health impact.
BACKGROUND: Recent studies have described the importance of bacteria that can degrade polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Here we screened bacterial isolates from commercial gasoline for PAH degraders and characterized their ability to degrade PAHs, lipids and proteins as well as their enantioselective epoxide hydrolase activity, salt tolerance, and seawater survival. METHODS AND RESULTS: One hundred two bacteria isolates from commercial gasoline were screened for PAH degraders by adding selected PAHs on to the surface of agar plates by the sublimation method. A clear zone was found only around the colonies of PAH degraders, which accounted for 13 isolates. These were identified as belonging to Bacillus sp., Brevibacterium sp., Micrococcus sp., Corynebacterium sp., Arthrobacter sp., and Gordonia sp. based on 16S rRNA sequences. Six isolates belonging to Corynebacterium sp., 3 of Micrococcus sp., Arthrobacter sp. S49, and Gordonia sp. H37 were lipid degraders. Arthrobacter sp. S49 was the only isolate showing high proteolytic activity. Among the PAH-degrading bacteria, Arthrobacter sp. S49, Brevibacterium sp. S47, Corynebacterium sp. SK20, and Gordonia sp. H37 showed enantioselective epoxide hydrolase activity with biocatalytic resolution of racemic styrene oxide. Among these, highest enantioselective hydrolysis activity was seen in Gordonia sp. H37. An intrinsic resistance to kanamycin was observed in most of the isolates and Corynebacterium sp. SK20 showed resistance to additional antibiotics such as tetracycline, ampicillin, and penicillin. CONCLUSION: Of the 13 PAH-degraders isolated from commercial gasoline, Arthrobacter sp. S49 showed the highest lipid and protein degrading activity along with high active epoxide hydrolase activity, which was the highest in Gordonia sp. H37. Our results suggest that bacteria from commercial gasoline may have the potential to degrade PAHs, lipids, and proteins, and may possess enantioselective epoxide hydrolase activity, high salt tolerance, and growth potential in seawater.
Rising oil price and environmental problems are causing automotive industry to increase fuel efficiency. Improved fuel efficiency in gasoline engine was made possible by development of DISI gasoline engine. Since fuel is injected inside cylinder directly, in-cylinder temperature can be reduced than multi-port injection engine and this leads to increased compression ratio. However, engine performance is largely dependent on mixture formation process due to in-cylinder fuel injection. Especially for spray guided and air guided DISI gasoline engine, injection direction is important factor to mixture preparation. It is because interaction between intake flow and spray affect fuel-air mixture. Hence, in this study, mixture formation characteristics were analyzed by varying injection direction using KIVA 3V release2 code. Residual gas was considered for assuming combustion. Therefore, initial condition for in-cylinder temperature was set equal to the end state of exhaust stroke of combustion cycle. Since angle between intake air flow direction and spray direction affects fluid flow and evaporation field, mixture distribution was affected by fuel injection direction dominantly.
하지만 이로 인해 NVH(Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) 성능이 악화되는 경우들이 많이 발생하고 있다.
Compression ignition diesel engine can reduce carbon emission than gasoline engine in case of high efficiency, output and durability. So, compression ignition diesel engine is used in various fields such as automobiles, industries and so on. Due to reducing of emission exhaust by Developing of injection and combustion type of diesel engine, emission of pollution substance is developed compared the past. Moreover, its efficiency and reduce of carbon emission is better than gasoline engine and it is used in power source of industries, transports and others because of its high efficiency and durability nowadays. In this study, we experiment by making and designing of compression ignition diesel engine witch has air-cooling, 2 cylinder and 2 strokes.
This study was performed to find out performance characteristics and develop LNG engine. this system was designed and manufactured by modification of a diesel using the LNgas. The engine was manufactured to be able to change the compression ratio by changing thickness of the gasket. The results are summarized brake power and torque of the engine increased when compression ratio of the engine increased. The engine output showed more power with gasoline by 5-10% then LNG under compression ratio of 9.5.and maximum brake thermal effeiency was noted when air-fuel ratio was 15.5. The concentrations of NOx, CO and HC in the exhaust gas showed lower values with the engine fueled LNG then gasoline.
In this study, It is necessary that we should study on more effective use about reciprocating engines because there are huge increase of air pollution. Diesel Engine is operated by injecting fuel directly to combustion chamber with high pressure. Diesel Engine has greater thermal efficiency and durability than Gasoline Engine. Also, Diesel Engine emitted low harmful exhaust witch caused by Gasoline Engine. There are many ways to improve of performance and decrease of harmful exhaust by controlling injection timing, changing amount of fuel and engine speed and so on. Especially, development and application of common rail direct injection Engine cause the increase of thermal efficiency by controlling a various of operating conditions. In this study we analyze characteristics of performance by changing a various of operating conditions.
