직접분사식 바이오 에탄올-가솔린 혼합연료의 연료온도에 따른 분무 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Spray Characteristics of Directly Injected Bio-Ethanol-Gasoline Blended Fuel By Varying Fuel Temperature)

  • As environment problem became a worldwide issue, countries are tightening regulations regarding greenhouse gas reduction and improvement of air pollution problems. With these circumstances, one of the renewable energies produced from biomass is getting attention. Bio-ethanol, which is applicable to SI engine, showed a positive effect on the PFI (Port Fuel Injection) type. However, Ethanol has a problem in homogeneous mixture formation because it has high latent heat of vaporization characteristics and in the GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) type, mixture formation is required quickly after fuel injection. Particularly, South Korea is one of the countries with great temperature variation among seasons. With this reason, South Korea supply fuel additive for smooth engine operation during winter. Therefore, experimental study and investigation about application possibility of blending fuel is necessary. This paper demonstrates the spray characteristics by using the CVC direct injection and setting the bio-ethanol blending fuel temperature close to the temperature during each seasons: -7, 25, $35^{\circ}C$. The diameter and the width of the CVC are 86mm and 39mm. High-pressure fuel supply system was used for target injection pressure. High-speed camera was used for spray visualization. The experiment was conducted by setting the injection pressure and ambient pressure according to each temperature of bio-ethanol blending fuel as a parameter. The result of spray visualization experiment demonstrates that as the temperature of the fuel is lower, the atomization quality is lower, and this increase spray penetration and make mixture formation difficult. Injection strategy according to fuel temperature and bio-ethanol blending rate is needed for improving characteristics.

급속응고된 Al81-(x+y)Si19NixCey 합금의 나노조직과 기계적 특성 (Nano Structure and Mechanical Properties of Rapidly Solidified Al81-(x+y)Si19NixCey Alloy)

  • In order to produce good wear resistance powder metallurgy Al-Si alloys with high strength, addition of glass forming elements of Ni and Ce in $Al_{81}$Si$_{19}$ alloy was examined using SEM, TEM, tensile strength and wear testing. The solubility of Si in aluminum increased with increasing Ni and Ce contents for rapidly solidified powders. These bulk alloys consist of a mixed structure in which fine Si particles with a particle size below 500 nm and very fine A1$_3$Ni, A1$_3$Ce compounds with a particle size below 200 nm are homogeneously dispersed in aluminum matrix with a grain size below 600 nm. The tensile strength at room temperature for $Al_{81}$Si$_{19}$, $Al_{78}$Si$_{19}$Ni$_2$Ce$_{0.5}$, and $Al_{76}$Si$_{19}$Ni$_4$Ce$_1$ bulk alloys extruded at 674 K and ratio of 10 : 1 is 281,521, and 668 ㎫ respectively. Especially, $Al_{73}$Si$_{19}$Ni$_{7}$Ce$_1$ bulk alloy had a high tensile strength of 730 ㎫. These bulk alloys are good wear-resistance bel ter than commercial I/M 390-T6. Specially, attactability for counterpart is very little, about 15 times less than that of the I/M 390-T6. The structural refinement by adding glass forming elements such as Ni and Ce to hyper eutectic $Al_{81}$Si$_{19}$ alloy is concluded to be effective as a structural modification method.d.tion method.

선택적 레이저 용융공정을 이용한 316L 스테인리스강 분말 3차원 조형체의 미세조직 및 경도 연구 (Study on Microstructures and Hardness of STS316L Fabricated by Selective Laser Melting)

  • In this study, STS316L powders prepared by gas atomization are used to manufacture bulk structures with dimensions of $10{\times}10{\times}10mm^3$ using selective laser melting (SLM). The microstructures and hardness of the fabricated 316L stainless steel has been investigated with the laser beam overlap varied from 10% to 70%. The microstructures of the fabricated STS316L samples show a decrease in the balling and satellite of powders introducing defect in the bulk samples and the porosity caused by the gap between the molten metal pools disappearing as the overlap ratio increases, whereas a low overlap ratio results in significant balling and a large amount of isolated powders due to the increased gap between the melt pools. Furthermore, the highest value in Vickers hardness is obtained for the sample fabricated by 30% overlapped laser beams. These results show that the overlap ratio of laser beams in the SLM process should be considered as an important process parameter.

  • A cold-work tool steel powder is used to fabricate 3-dimensional objects by selective laser melting using a high-pressure gas atomization process. The spherical powder particles form continuous carbide networks among the austenite matrix and its decomposition products. The carbides comprise Nb-rich MC and Mo-rich $M_2C$. In the SLM process, the process parameters such as the laser power (90 W), layer thickness ($25{\mu}m$), and hatch spacing ($80{\mu}m$) are kept fixed, while the scan speed is changed from 50 mm/s to 4000 mm/s. At a low scan speed of 50 mm/s, spherical cavities develop due to over melting, while they are substantially reduced on increasing the speed to 2000 mm/s. The carbide network spacing decreases with increasing speed. At an excessively high speed of 4000 mm/s, long and irregularly shaped cavities are developed due to incomplete melting. The influence of the scan pattern is examined, for which $1{\times}1 mm^2$ blocks constituting a processing layer are irradiated in a random sequence. This island-type pattern exhibits the same effect as that of a low scan speed. Post processing of an object using hot isostatic pressing leads to a great reduction in the porosity but causes coarsening of the microstructure.

바이오디젤-CNG 혼소엔진에서 파일럿 분사량이 연소 및 배기 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Pilot Injection Quantity on the Combustion and Emissions Characteristics in a Diesel Engine using Biodiesel-CNG Dual Fuel)

  • The effect of pilot injection quantity on the combustion and emissions characteristics of a compression ignition engine with a biodiesel-compressed natural gas (CNG) dual fuel combustion (DFC) system is studied in this work. Biodiesel is used as a pilot injection fuel to ignite the main fuel, CNG of DFC. The pilot injection quantity is controlled to investigate the characteristics of combustion and exhaust emissions in a single cylinder diesel engine. The injection pressure and injection timing of pilot fuel are maintained at approximately 120 MPa and BTDC 17 crank angle, respectively. Results show that the indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP) of biodiesel-CNG DFC mode is similar to that of diesel-CNG DFC mode at all load conditions. Combustion stability of biodiesel-CNG DFC mode decreased with increase of engine load, but no notable trend of cycle-to-cycle variations with increase of pilot injection quantity is discovered. The combustion of biodiesel-CNG begins at a retarded crank angle compared to that of diesel-CNG at low load, but it is advanced at high loads. Smoke and NOx of biodiesel-CNG are simultaneously increased with the increase of pilot fuel quantity. Compared to the diesel-CNG DFC, however, smoke and NOx emissions are slightly reduced over all operating conditions. Biodiesel-CNG DFC yields higher $CO_2$ emissions compared to diesel-CNG DFC over all engine conditions. CO and HC emissions for biodiesel-CNG DFC is decreased with the increase of pilot injection quantity.

Butane 및 propane의 비정상 난류 제트 특성에 관한 연구 (A study on Behavior of Turbulent Transient Jets with Butane and Propane)

  • In order to understand the behavior of transient gaseous injection used in an LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) engine, turbulent incompressible transient jets with butane and propane were measured and analyzed at pressures of 1.5 bar and 2.0 bar with injector diameters of 3 mm and 5 mm. Mie-scattering method with a tracer was used, and images were processed to investigate the behavior of butane and propane jets. Distances from the nozzle to transition region were measured as $L_e/d_{inj}$=4.35~19.4, where $L_e$ and $d_{inj}$ indicate respectively a distance from nozzle to transition point and nozzle diameter. Slits and tubes around jet at near-field were introduced to measure the effect of entrainment and the diameter of jet, which revealed that the entrainment of surrounding air is significant for developing jet diameter. When the entrainment is restricted, the behavior of jet became deviating from the baseline. It was found that the virtual origin located outside of a nozzle towards jet tip within the conditions of this work, and its location was estimated as $x_o/d_{inj}$=0.56~7.25, where $x_o$ is a distance from nozzle to virtual origin.

Fe-Si 전기강판 폐스크랩을 이용한 3원계 Fe-9.8Si-6.0Al 합금의 연자성 특성 (Soft Magnetic Property of Ternary Fe-9.8Si-6.0Al Alloy Using by Recycling Fe-Si Electrical Steel Sheet Scrap)

  • Fe-9.8Si-6.0Al mother alloy was manufactured using by Fe-3.5Si recycled scrap and Si powder. And then, soft magnetic alloy powder of $D_{50}$ size and sphere type were prepared by gas atomization process. To obtain the soft magnetic powder of a high aspect ratio, in the first, we conducted the ball milling process for 8 hours. And heat treatment was performed under $650^{\circ}C$, 2 hours and $N_2$ atmosphere condition for reducing the residual stress of the powder. Based on these process, we made around $50{\mu}m$ diameter Fe-9.8Si-6.0Al powder, which morphology and shape was a similar to the commercial Fe-Si-Al powder. Finally, the soft magnetic sheets were prepared by tape casting process using by those powders. The permeability of the tape casting sheet was measured, and we confirmed the possibility of reusing to the soft magnetic materials of Fe-Si electric sheet scrap.

열시스템에서 생성된 SO$_{2}$ 가스의 배출저감을 위한 정전기 분무 원리의 응용 (An application of the electrostatic spray technology to increase scrubbing efficiency of SO$_{2}$ emitted from thermal systems)

  • Emission control of acid exhaust gases from coal-fired power plants and waste incinerators has become an increasing concern of both industries and regulators. Among those gaseous emissions, SO$_{2}$ has been eliminated by a Spray Drying Absorber (SDA) system, where the exhaust gas is mixed with atomized limestone-water slurry droplets and then the chemical reaction of SO$_{2}$ with alkaline components of the liquid feed forms sulfates. Liquid atomization is necessary because it maximizes the reaction efficiency by increasing the total surface area of the alkaline components. An experimental study was performed with a laboratory scale SDA to investigate whether the scrubbing efficiency for SO$_{2}$ reduction increased or not with the application of a DC electric field to the limestone-water slurry. For a selected experimental condition SO$_{2}$ concentrations exited from the reactor were measured with various applied voltages and liquid flow rates. The applied voltage varied from -10 to 10 kV by 1 kV, and the volume flow rate of slurry was set to 15, 25, 35 ml/min which were within the range of emission mode. Consequently, the SO$_{2}$ scrubbing efficiency increased with increasing the applied voltage but was independent of the polarity of the applied voltage. For the electrical and flow conditions considered a theoretical study of estimating average size and charge of the atomized droplets was carried out based on the measured current-voltage characteristics. The droplet charge to mass ratio increased and the droplet diameter decreased as the strength of the applied voltage increased.

고에너지 밀링공정을 이용한 조대 마그네슘 분말의 미세화 거동 (Refinement Behavior of Coarse Magnesium Powder by High Energy Ball Milling (HEBM))

  • In this research, the refinement behavior of the coarse magnesium powders fabricated by gas atomization was investigated as a function of milling time using a short duration high-energy ball milling equipment, which produces fine powders by means of an ultra high-energy within a short duration. The microstructure, hardness, and formability of the powders were investigated as a function of milling time using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Vickers micro-hardness tester and magnetic pulsed compaction. The particle morphology of Mg powders changed from spherical particles of feed metals to irregular oval particles, then platetype particles, with increasing milling time. Due to having HCP structure, deformation occurs due to the existence of the easily breakable C-axis perpendicular to the base, resulting in producing plate-type powders. With increasing milling time, the particle size increased until 5 minutes, then decreased gradually reaching a uniform size of about 50 micrometer after 20 minutes. The relative density of the initial power was 98% before milling, and mechanically milled powder was 92~94% with increase milling time (1~5 min) then it increased to 99% after milling for 20 minutes because of the change in particle shapes.

Al-Si-SiC 복합분말과 Al-Zn-Mg계 합금분말이 혼합된 분말의 소결 거동 및 기계적 특성연구 (Investigation on the Sintering Behavior and Mechanical Properties of Al-Zn-Mg Alloy Powders Mixed with Al-Si-SiC Composite Powders)

  • Al-Si-SiC composite powders with intra-granular SiC particles were prepared by a gas atomization process. The composite powders were mixed with Al-Zn-Mg alloy powders as a function of weight percent. Those mixture powders were compacted with the pressure of 700 MPa and then sintered at the temperature of $565-585^{\circ}C$. T6 heat treatment was conducted to increase their mechanical properties by solid-solution precipitates. Each relative density according to the optimized sintering temperature of those powders were determined as 96% at $580^{\circ}C$ for Al-Zn-Mg powders (composition A), 97.9% at $575^{\circ}C$ for Al-Zn-Mg powders with 5 wt.% of Al-Si-SiC powders (composition B), and 98.2% at $570^{\circ}C$ for Al-Zn-Mg powders with 10 wt.% of Al-Si-SiC powders (composition C), respectively. Each hardness, tensile strength, and wear resistance test of those sintered samples was conducted. As the content of Al-Si-SiC powders increased, both hardness and tensile strength were decreased. However, wear resistance was increased by the increase of Al-Si-SiC powders. From these results, it was confirmed that Al-Si-SiC/Al-Zn-Mg composite could be highly densified by the sintering process, and thus the composite could have high wear resistance and tensile strength when the content of Al-Si-SiC composite powders were optimized.
