  • In this research, the effect of Sc on the micro structure and mechanical properties of Al-20Si alloy powders and their extruded bar was investigated. The Al-20wt%Si and Al-20wt%Si-0.6wr%Sc powders were produced by gas atomization. The micro structures of the alloy powders and extrude was examined by optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The alloy powders were subsequently canned, degassed and extruded in order to produce the alloy bulk. It was found that the micro structure of the Al-20Si alloy powder was refined and the mechanical properties was significantly improved by the addition of 0.6Sc.

Effect of Reduction Temperature on the Microstructure and Thermoelectric Properties of TAGS-85 Compounds

  • In this work, the effects of hydrogen reduction on the microstructure and thermoelectric properties of $(GeTe)_{0.85}(AgSbTe_2)_{0.15}$ (TAGS-85) were studied by a combination of gas atomization and spark plasma sintering. The crystal structure and microstructure of TAGS-85 were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The oxygen content of both powders and bulk samples were found to decrease with increasing reduction temperature. The grain size gradually increased with increasing reduction temperature due to adhesion of fine grains in a temperature range of 350 to $450^{\circ}C$. The electrical resistivity was found to increase with reduction temperature due to a decrease in carrier concentration. The Seebeck coefficient decreased with increasing reduction temperature and was in good agreement with the carrier concentration and carrier mobility. The maximum power factor, $3.3{\times}10^{-3}W/mK^2$, was measured for the non-reduction bulk TAGS-85 at $450^{\circ}C$.

  • 난류 유동장으로 분사되는 두가지 형태의 액체 제트 (수평분사는 디젤연료와 수직분사는 물)의 액주 분열과 미립화 현상에 관한 이상(Two-phase) 유동에 대해 3차원 LES 수치해석을 수행하였다. 기체상태의 공기 유동은 오일러리안 해법을 사용하고, 액체 제트의 액적 추적은 라그랑지안 해법을 사용하여 기체-액체간 이상유동 해석을 수행하였다. 두 종류의 확률론적 분열 모델(Stochastic breakup model)을 사용하여 액적 분열을 모사하였으며, 액체제트의 침투깊이와 액적 분포(Sauter Mean Diameter)를 실험결과와 비교하여 미세하게 분열되는 액체 제트의 분열 현상에 대해 확률론적 분열 모델링의 적합성을 제시하였다.

  • Fe based ($Fe_{68.2}C_{5.9}Si_{3.5}B_{6.7}P_{9.6}Cr_{2.1}Mo_{2.0}Al_{2.0}$) amorphous powder were produced by a gas atomization process, and then ductile Cu powder fabricated by the electric explosion of wire(EEW) were mixed in the liquid (methanol) consecutively. The Fe-based amorphous - nanometallic Cu composite powders were compacted by a spark plasma sintering (SPS) processes. The nano-sized Cu powders of ${\sim}\;nm$200 produced by EEW in the methanol were mixed and well coated with the atomized Fe amorphous powders through the simple drying process on the hot plate. The relative density of the compacts obtained by the SPS showed over 98% and its hardness was also found to reach over 1100 Hv.

  • In this study, the spray atomization characteristics of urea injector used in SCR system for construction machinery was analyzed, and the uniformity index at the front of mixer and NOx conversion efficiency were evaluated through numerical analysis. Spray visualization and droplet size/velocity measurement were performed and the measured results were used to verify the spray analysis model to calculate the uniformity index in the exhaust gas after-treatment system. For the flow analysis, STAR-CCM, a three-dimensional CFD, was used and the uniformity index of the SCR system at the front of the mixer was calculated using the droplet dissociation model and the wall collision model. Finally, the DeNOx performance for the average condition of the NRTC driving mode was calculated to understand the NOx conversion efficiency reflecting the exhaust gas temperature. The simulation results show that the uniformity index at the front of mixer was calculated as 0.862 and DeNOx efficiency was 75.9%.

  • Aluminum-based powders have attracted attention as key materials for 3D printing owing to their low density, high specific strength, high corrosion resistance, and formability. This study describes the effects of TiC addition on the microstructure of the A6013 alloy. The alloy powder was successfully prepared by gas atomization and further densified using an extrusion process. We have carried out energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in order to investigate the effect of TiC addition on the microstructure and texture evolution of the A6013 alloy. The atomized A6013-xTiC alloy powder is fine and spherical, with an initial powder size distribution of approximately 73 ㎛ which decreases to 12.5, 13.9, 10.8, and 10.0 ㎛ with increments in the amount of TiC.

  • The CFD simulation of diesel spray tip penetrations were compared with 0-D simulation for experimental data obtained with common rail injection system. The simulated four injection patterns include single, pilot and split injections. The CFD simulation of the spray penetration over these injection patterns was performed using the KIVA-3V code, which was implemented with both the standard KIVA spray and original gas jet sub-models. 0-D simulation of the spray tip penetration with time-varying injection profiles was formulated based on the effective injection velocity concept as an extension of steady gas jet theory. Both the CFD simulation of the spray tip penetration with the standard KIVA spray model and 0-D simulation matched better with the experimental data than the results of the gas jet model for the entire fuel injection patterns.

  • To comply with the regulation of the reinforcing Clean Air Conservation Act, it is necessary for the semiconductor manufacturers to develop effective low-concentration acid gas abatement system to treat the flue gas. The low-concentration acid gas was found to be harder to deal with than the high-concentration one. In this study, the effect of various potential treatments such as air-assist nozzle spraying, magnetizing the scrubbing water, and adding surfactants to spraying and scrubbing water were investigate through the application of the statistical ANCOVA method, which was proved to be very useful tool when the inlet concentration of acid gas could not be controlled precisely and it affected the removal efficiency of the abatement system.

  • Recently, exhaust gas regulation has been gradually strengthened due to depletion of fossil fuels and environmental problem like a global warming. Due to this global problem, the demand for eco-friendly vehicle development is rapidly increasing. A clean diesel vehicle is considered as a realistic alternative. The common-rail fuel injection system, which is the key technology of the clean diesel vehicle, has adopted injection strategies such as high pressure injection, multiple injection for better atomization of the fuel. In addition, the emission regulations in the future is expected to be more stringent, which a conventional engine is difficult to deal with. One of the way for actively proceeding is the study of alternative fuels. Among them, the bio-diesel has been attracted as an alternative of diesel. So, in this study, spray characteristics of bio-diesel was analyzed in the common-rail fuel injection system with three injectors driven by different operating mechanism.

액체로켓 핀틀 인젝터의 분사조건이 미립화 성능에 미치는 영향 (Injection Condition Effects of a Pintle Injector for Liquid Rocket Engines on Atomization Performances)

  • Effects of injection conditions on a pintle injector which is proper to recent liquid rocket engines requiring low cost, low weight, high efficiency and reusability were studied. The pintle injector with a typical moving pintle was used for atmospheric experiment using water and air. Injection pressures of water were considered 0.5 and 1.0 bar, 0.1 to 1.0 bar for injection pressures of air and 0.2 to 1.0 mm for pintle opening distance. Sauter mean diameters (SMD) of spray was measured at 50 mm distance from a pintle tip and SMD was treated as a representative parameter in this study. As a result, because of shape characteristics of the pintle injector, there was a transient region between the pintle opening distances of 0.6 and 0.7 mm and this region affected to mass flow rates and SMDs. Also, Reynolds numbers for gas, Weber numbers and momentum ratios were adopted as major non-dimensional paramters and the momentum ratio has strong correlation with SMD.
