This study was to investigate the distribution of the garment pressure in daily wearing and in ordinary posture. Ninety-nine college women students majoring the fashion were participated for this study. IBP questionnaire, garment pressure, personal preferring pressure sensations(questionnaire), and subjective garment pressure sensations were measured. There were no significant differences between the data of 2003 and those of 2005. Participants preferred T-shirts and jeans and also preferred slightly fitted style to the loose style. They were classified with the high garment pressure group and the low garment pressure group. Garment pressure from lower garments were usually higher in the high garment pressure group than in the low garment pressure group. There was no significant differences in the upper garments weights between two groups. The lower garments weight of the high garment pressure group showed $533.3{\pm}182.11g/m^2$ and that of the low garment pressure group was $453.4{\pm}181.6g/m^2$. There was a significant difference in the lower garments weight between two groups(p<.01). In a standing posture, there were no significant differences among the distribution of garment pressure. There was a significant garment pressure differences between sitting on a chair and sitting on the floor(p<.001). Participants included in the low garment pressure group felt a higher garment pressure than participants included in the high garment pressure group.
The aim of this study was to investigate the appropriate elasticity of the textile material used for making women's girdle. Background: The elastic textiles have been used for making girdle. The hard type girdle gave high pressure on the body to make slim look. However, excessively high garment pressure caused negative effect to human bodies. This study studied the material giving proper garment pressure in girdle. Method: In this study five experimental girdles were made fabrics with various elasticities. The change of garment pressures and body girths were measured after subjects wearing the experimental girdles. The garment pressure was measured at 10 points. Body girths measured at abdomen, hip, and thigh. Results: The garment pressure of the commercial girdle was high at side of waistband, side femur and back gluteal fold. The experimental girdles made with high elasticity material definitely lowered garment pressure at those points. After wearing experimental girdle their abdomen and hip girths measurements were decreased. But, thigh girth was not reduced. Conclusion: The girdle made with excellent elasticity materials reduced garment pressure significantly and it made body slim as much as the commercial girdle except the thighs. Application: This study provides guideline for the developing girdle that applying optimum range of garment pressure with body slim effect.
With considerable development of comfortable and functional clothing in recent years, we need to evaluate the effects of garment pressure in daily wear on each parts of human body because the garment pressure is important to design the clothing. This study was designed to examine the effects of body postures on garment pressure on each parts of human body in the actual clothing conditions. All the data were collected from 50 volunteered subjects. The Garment pressure was measured in lune and December with 8 points CPMS clothing pressure system from scapular, upper am, elbow, under arm, front waist line, side waist line, abdomen, crista ilica, upper hip, middle hip, front thigh, back thigh, front knee and back knee. The postures of subjects were controlled with 3 positions such as standing (posture 1), sitting on the chair (posture 2), and sitting on the floor (posture 3) during measurement of clothing pressure. Clothing weights were more in men than in woman. It showed that clothing weights had no effects on the garment pressure. In this study, however, just the garment pressures on scapular and top of the hip increased significantly by clothing weight (p<. 05). Clothing horizontally pressed on scapular and top of hip but not on other parts. When subjects stood up, the garment pressure was the highest on the side waist. Especially, clothing pressure on the front waist point was lower than that of the left side waist. On the upper parts of the human body, the garment pressure of left side waist was the highest, and followed by front waist, crista ilica, and abdomen in order. When subjects were sitting on the chair, the garment pressure on the lower parts of the human body was the highest on the top of hip. When the subjects were sitting on the chair or on the floor, the surface area on their skin of hip and waist parts increased by postures. In addition, it showed that men felt more comfortable than women on higher clothing pressure level.
A girdle is a body-shaping article of clothing. The garment pressure of the girdle is considered an indispensable factor. The purpose of this study was to identify changes in body size and distribution of garment pressure after donning the girdle. The changes of body size and garment pressure were analyzed by body types. Korean women (n=19) in their 20s participated in the experiment. Their body types were classified according to four factors: the index value(hip girth-waist girth), and waist, hip, and thigh girths. The garment pressure was measured at 12 points. The results of this study showed that the hip and thigh girths were reduced mostly after donning the girdle. These values were 2.0~2.8cm and 1.7~2.3cm, respectively. The garment pressure was high at the waist band, the hip joint, and the gluteal furrow region at the back. The subjects whose waists, thighs, or hips were well developed showed great garment pressure in the hip area, but their hip girth decreased very little. The subjects with less developed or slim thighs or hips showed a slimming effect, with moderate pressure in the hip and thigh regions. These results show that the hip and thigh can be slimmed with moderate pressure by donning a thigh-length girdle. High garment pressure is not necessary for the girdle's body shaping effect. The hip area is hard to get body slimming effect with high garment pressure. The current girdle sizing system needs to be revised in order to lower garment pressure in the hip region. The researchers suggest using 3cm size intervals rather than 6cm size intervals for hip girth.
Korean clothings are admired for their beauty and traditional value. On the other hand, many of Korean women complain of chest restriction. Korean skirts may give high garment pressure to the wearers because the Korean skirt-band do not resolve physical tensions in size or in stretch. This paper aims at the identification of the garment pressure caused by the Korean skirt-band and the cardiopulmonary change caused by garment pressure. The Korean skirt-band were made in 3 kinds of size, and 21 women were selected for wearing test. The garment pressure was measured in front, side, and back parts of the body. The measured cardiopulmonary parameters were vital capacity, respiratory rate, heart rate, and blood pressure. The results were as follows: 1. The smaller the size of the Korean skirt-band, the greater the garment pressure. The pressure during inspiration was significantly greater than the pressure during expiration. 2. The pressure in side part was the greatest of the three measurements and the pressure in back part was the smallest. 3. The small size of the Korean skirt-band revealed low vital capcity and great respiratory rate. 4. As the small size grement was dressed, the respiratory rate and the heart rate during walking and rest after walking were significantly high. 5. Subjects felt uncomfortable when they wore small sized garment.
This study aims to analyze short sleeve cycling tops from three brands for a change in garment fit and pressure depending on the static and cycling postures. To this end, it used a 3D virtual garment system to virtualize the garments. Further, a cross-section of the 3D virtual garment data was obtained, and the space length was measured in the design-X program to prove the objectivity of the 3D virtual garment. The results indicated that three brands had a large space length at the front than the back because of the bent posture in cycling. Therefore, appropriate ease was required for the waist and abdomen. Although there were various cutting lines of the bodice panel by brand, the design of the cutting lines should consider the changes in the surface to reflect the bent posture in cycling. The results of this experiment confirmed that the wrinkles present in the 3D virtual garment were reflected in the cross-section and that the space length was small in the high-stress area, as shown in red. Therefore, it was proven the stress of the 3D virtual garment could be used for 3D virtual garment evaluation.
The purpose of this study was to confirm the difference of garment pressure and comfort depend on age group wearing the Korean skirt-band. A loadcell was used for measuring garment pressure, and 25 female subjects were chosen for each of young, middle, and old age groups. Garment pressure was measured in front, side, and back parts of the body. The results were as follows: 1. The younger the subjects, the greater the garment pressure. This suggests that the young age group wear the Korean skirt-band more tightly than needed. 2. The measurements of the pressure in 3 parts of the body were different. In young and middle age groups, pressure decreased from side to back, while in the old age group the order was side, back, and (rent. 3. The young age group felt high restriction of pressure. And the pressure in side part of body is the greatest among the three measurement.
This study was to decided the proper garment pressure level on the human body parts. Six volunteers (female: 30-40years) put on the same types of bands, a brief, and a non-woven gown. Garment pressure was measured in regular order with the elastic band on the human body parts such as the upper arm, the waist, the thigh, and the calf. At the same time, physiological responses such as the skin blood flow rate on 2 fingers, 7 different skin temperatures, rectal temperature, heat rates, and subjective responses about the pressure sensation, thermal sensation, and humidity sensation were measured and inquired. The results were as follows; 1. The thicker subcutaneous fat thickness, the higher the mean garment pressure on pressurizing the upper arm(p<.001). Also the thicker subcutaneous fat thickness. the thicker the upper arm circumference. 2. Heart rates increased pressured the upper arm and decreased pressured the waist, the thigh, and the calf. The higher the garment pressure, the higher heart rates on all body parts were pressured. Especially lean subjects showed higher physiological load than others. 3. On pressurizing the upper arm, heart rates, rectal temperature, and mean skin temperature were higher than without pressured state and pressured other body parts.4. The proper garment pressure levels were decided 30gf/$cm^2$ for fat people, 20gf/$cm^2$ for others on the upper arms and 24gf/$cm^2$ on the calf.
The purpose of this study was to analyze and determine the relationship between physiological responses including blood flow rate and garment pressure, and the feeling of restrictive tightness associated with the wearing skinny pants as a popular clothing style. Evaluation was based on material type, posture and activity type, and body part location. Five female college students took part in this research. Five kinds of experimental clothes with waist measurements of 66cm were chosen. An analysis of the selected skinny pants demonstrated the degree of the whole looseness was higher in this order: clothing type A>B>D>C, and E with E being knitted cloth. Garment pressure was the highest in the front knee portions and was lowest in the outside thigh region. Garment pressure was highest in this sequence : clothing type C>=D>A>=B>E. In terms of posture and activity types, garment pressure was the highest when research participants were crouching, and was the lowest when standing. The blood flow rate was highest in this order: clothing type E>D>B>A>C. Type C skinny pants impeded blood flow and demonstrated the tightest and most restrictive relationship. Blood flow rate varied depending on the type of movement and was highest in this order: getting up, rowing, kicking, jumping and O-shaped leg posture. The results of subjective pressure evaluation demonstrated that pressure was highest in this order: E>=C>B>A>D. These results suggests the need to improve on the patterns and the material design in the area of the front knees. The degree of the looseness when wearing skinny pants did not always correspond to garment pressure or subjective sensation.
This study was to select the measurement points for the brassier and the waist-nipper. 15 subjects (ages 30-40) were chosen by % body fat to represent various physical types. Subjects put on each garment, brassier and a waist-nipper, in turns. Measurement points in the underwear were selected according to the parts of human body. The characteristics and surface area of each garment was considered carefully when the measurement points were selected. Selected measurement points on a brassier and a waist-nipper were chosen from the anterior midsagittal line, the side-seam line, and the posterior midsagittal line. Three points on the brassier and three points on the waist-nipper were selected as the measurement points. There was a highly significant correlation between % body fat and mean garment pressure. There were no significant relationships between thickness of subcutaneous fat and mean garment pressure by measured parts.
