This game machine has been installed in a silver house for one month that the elderly could play the game as they like in their convenient times. To promote their participations to practice the game, we set 3 contests with gifts for the high scores and collect their data through inspection, questionnaire and interviews by the researchers as well as in-game measurement for the play. Eight people volunteered to join the project. While the result analysis for the usability area of easiness of control, learnability of the game play, memorability and challenge didn't show the statistical confident t-value, most elderly players participated 2~3 times a day for a month even though most of them are suffering mild cognition impairment. They showed good subjective satisfactions in their interviews that we could go on the project further to expand its applications.

The reading game consisted of six steps according to the process of reading (familiarizing with consonants and vowels, acquiring whole words, combining consonants and vowels, reading words, phonological rules, reading fluency). In this study, parents experienced steps one through three of the reading-game app and evaluated the general design features and Universal Design for Learning on a five-point scale. Regarding the general design features, parents rated usability (18 items in total) as high in the following order: interactive design, instructional design, and interface design. Regarding the Universal Design for Learning (9 items in total), parents evaluated usability as high in the following order: providing multiple means of representation, providing multiple means of action and expression, and providing multiple means of engagement. Lastly, suggestions for the improvement of the app, practical implications, and suggestions for future research are discussed.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the usability of serious-game apps for robots that are being developed for hospitals to add familiarity to hospital life for hospitalized patients. We conducted a usability test of 10 experts and 12 elementary school students with inpatient experience. The usability evaluation of the developed apps was based on the professional (MARS) evaluation tool and the user (uMARS) evaluation tool. The results of the usability test of the serious game robot app were $3.67{\pm}0.342$ for professionals and $3.68{\pm}0.592$ for children. The expert group obtained the highest score in the aesthetics category, and the user group obtained the highest score in the functionality category. In the subjective comments, the experts pointed out the game layout and the consistency of the style. According to the children, the methods were easy to learn, and the screen movement was mainly described. Both groups received low ratings in terms of engagement through participation. This study will provide useful reference material when the functional game app is actually installed in the robot and the usability test is conducted again after the results obtained in this study are considered.
