  • Over the recent years, there has been a sudden surge in interest over character-related products among mobile game developers in South Korea as a business strategy to extend mobile game lifespans. However, even with the majority of mobile game players aging around 18~35 and higher, there has been a lack of study regarding design preferences and consumption tendencies of adult players-or kidults-when it comes to character-related products. In this study, three distinctive decision patterns among kidults were identified using an online Q-Sort method: (a) Character Oriented, (b) Item Oriented, and (c) Character-item Oriented. The similarities and differences of these three types are further analyzed to provide insight into important factors that play decisive roles in purchasing decisions made by kidults. The results from this study can aid mobile game developers in establishing reference points for future character business directions.

  • A new trend has been emerging in recent years, with video game live streaming becoming a meeting ground for gamers, as well as a marketing strategy for game developers. In line with this trend, the emergence of the "Let's Play" culture has significantly changed the manner in which people enjoyed video games. In order to academically explore this new experience, this study seeks to answer the following research questions: (1) Does engaging in video game streaming offer the same feeling as playing the game? (2) If so, what are the factors that affect the feeling of telepresence from viewers' perspective? and (3) How does the feeling of telepresence affect viewers' learning experience of the streamed game? We generated and empirically tested a comprehensive research model based on the telepresence and consumer learning theories. The research findings revealed that the authenticity and pleasantness of the streamer and the interaction of viewers positively affect telepresence, which in turn is positively associated with the gained knowledge and a positive attitude toward the streamed game. Based on the research findings, various practical implications are discussed for game developers as well as platform providers.

  • Game is the cultural product, which gives users high authority in usage process with its high interactivity. This study is about the user innovation based on customer empowerment, and the possibilities to change the game itself applying high activity of the game. Especially, game modification, which users transform the original game, is an example that the interactivity and changeability of game are maximized. However, these elements were not considered when constructing frameworks to investigate the competition and strategy in game industry. Therefore, this study is based on the customer empowerments of the game modification. Moreover, this study proposes the newly reorganized strategic group map in game industry, which is based on game user innovation and user evaluation.

  • This paper summarizes the features and functions of game video on each platform through a study on streaming technology. Game videos have a high relationship with game content itself for the purpose of marketing and disseminating game play methods using games as the subject matter. The video length is short and it is easy to spread. The main types of game video content are game commentary, game strategy, funny, imitative, music video, and game information. As a game promotion video function, etc., it is used as a direct or indirect publicity for the game by the producer and the user for each reason. This article analyzed the production subject and production conditions of game videos, focusing on the production process. The production subject is divided into professional creators, non-professional creators, and general users. The motive for producing game videos is mainly to obtain economic benefits. The production process was extracted and presented through examples of game videos.

  • To enhance the effect of learning in vocabulary learning, it is important first of all for learner to take active learning and be interested in learning, not cramming education. Due to this background, the instructor sometimes takes advantage of the game concepts in producing the courseware for vocabulary learning. But because of overwhelming overload in making the game-based courseware, it have been not made practical application to vocabulary learning. In this research, we study on the strategy for making practical application of the game concept to producing the courseware for vocabulary learning. And, based on the strategy, we design and implement the authoring tool of courseware for vocabulary learning based on crossword puzzle game. This tool enables instructor to produce the courseware based on crossword puzzle game easily and quickly and to make efficiently the courseware for vocabulary learning with level.

  • Nowadays, learning of agents gets more and more useful in game environments. But it takes a long learning time to produce satisfactory results in game. So, we need a good method to shorten the learning time. In this paper, we present a strategy for improving the learning performance of Q-learning with prediction information. It refers to the chosen action at each status in the Q-learning algorithm, It stores the referred value at the P-table of prediction module, and then it searches some values with high frequency at the table. The values are used to renew second compensation value from the Q-table. Our experiments show that our approach gets the efficiency improvement of average 9% after the middle point of learning experiments, and that the more actions in a status space, the higher performance.

  • Based on revised 2015 curriculum, diversified SW education methods for elementary school students are researched, developed and applied. However, as most of SW education is based on English text, its coding process may be difficult for low graders of elementary school who are not familiar with English and Math. Under this situation, Kodu game lab based 'icon card board' by which coding could be learnt with ease through game and icon was developed and story activity, coding activity and collaboration activity (SCC) strategy based 17th session SW curriculum was applied and verified. As a result of research, in terms of satisfaction of students for SW class, students more than 86% recognized such class positively and a significant effect was obtained from students' interest level and learning model for coding.

  • The study analyzes the optimum Korea-China FTA negotiations by utilizing the Putnam's two- level game theoretic approach. According to the Putnam's theory, the size of the win-set depends on the strategies of the Level 1 negotiators. The size of the win-set depends also on the level 2 political institutions and the distribution of power, preferences, and possible conditions among Level 2 constituents. The basic principles for the successful future Korea-China FTA negotiations should be based on comprehensiveness, substantial liberalization and gradual liberalization with consideration of sensitive sectors. This study concludes that mid-level FTA strategy with comprehensive but low tariff reduction would be of best strategy for Korea. This study also suggests the utilization of the EHP(Early Harvest Program) for the successful Korea-China FTA negotiations.

  • Recently, many games provide data related to the users' game play, and there have been a few studies that predict opponent move by combining machine learning methods. This study predicts opponent move using match data of a real-time strategy game named ClashRoyale and a multi-label classification based on machine learning. In the initial experiment, binary card properties, binary card coordinates, and normalized time information are input, and card type and card coordinates are predicted using random forest and multi-layer perceptron. Subsequently, experiments were conducted sequentially using the next three data preprocessing methods. First, some property information of the input data were transformed. Next, input data were converted to nested form considering the consecutive card input system. Finally, input data were predicted by dividing into the early and the latter according to the normalized time information. As a result, the best preprocessing step was shown about 2.6% improvement in card type and about 1.8% improvement in card coordinates when nested data divided into the early.

  • A study about two-dimensional pursuit-evasion dynamic games is presented and discussed. A pursuer tries to intercept an evader by a strategy based on proportional navigation guidance, while the evader tries to maximize a miss distance by the optimal control. The study is applied to a ball game and an air-combat game. The results show the same features exist in both games, therefore the study will be able to apply for general two dimensional dynamic games. In the ball game, the study is extended to cases where a goal exists, while in the air-combat game, some three-dimensional problems are solved and the results are also shown.
