  • This study is to reveal the meaning of the interaction between a player and a game with the approach of an operational interaction such as joystick and keyboard, and also a representational interaction that the player takes during the game. It has been usually recognized that cut-scene in existing games is just limited to the role of opening scene that delivers mainly a background story of the game, and has the only passive function that serves additionally the expression of the state of the player or the replay of the results of the player's action. But in the aspect of game-direction, the study of the player's action about the interaction movie of 'Uncharted2', for example, one of the most representative video games, shows the possible classification of interaction movie along with three functions(situation direction, induced selective-action, information transfer). As a result, it is judged that interaction movie is not an additional element for the game-play, but rather takes the function of as an interface. The effective application of interaction movie could help a smooth connection between the recognizability from the view point of the player and the playing from the main character's viewpoint, ultimately leading to a direct means to maximize the delivery of the story.

  • Cinematic camera techniques are being increasingly applied to the game development these days. In this study, the object movement and camera effect for the game development using the curve in the 3D space were discussed. The Catmull-Rom spline algorithm follows the curve more closely than the other curve algorithms. With the algorithm proposed in this study, the Catmull-Rom spline was dynamically created according to the user's input in multiple sections in the 3D space, and objects smoothly passed along the route. In addition, Cut-Scene section is specified using the Catmull-Rom spline and the object movement can be observed. The results of the study on the accuracy and efficiency of the curve showed that the Catmull-Rom spline is very efficient not only for the object movement but also for the cinematic camera technique.

  • The secondary animation technology for the detailed objects including accessories is being studied and applied to the modern game development. The jiggle-bone deformer is used for 3D graphic tools as a technology to create the animation of these objects, but it is disadvantageous in that the real-time modification is difficult and the graphic developers need much time. The secondary animation can also be realized using a physical game engine, but the cost of animation process increases when many objects in a scene of a game are rendered, and it has a low efficiency. This paper proposes a dynamic jiggle-bone animation algorithm, which can be modified in real time and has the similar effect to the physical game engine. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, tests were conducted with varied number of bones and for the case of one scene with the animation of many jiggle-bones, and the results were adjudged relatively efficient.

  • This paper presents a semi-autonomous authoring method which can intuitively create 3D game/ animation contents for unexperienced users. In particular, this method considers their convenience to provide them with easier authoring environments. The 3D game/animation contents created by this method consist of several scene components connected to each other in a logical flow structure. Thus, it is possible to easily understand the overview of 3D content description for its production and manipulate these scene components for efficient management. Four different genres of game/animation contents have been developed by using an authoring tool based on this method. According to results of a survey intended for game developers who created game contents with the authoring tool, this method is shown to save contents development cost/time as well as raise the efficiency and convenience of whole process of contents creation to the expected level.

  • Recent development in game technologies has offered various game environments, but the existing games have not provided realistically felt game environments because the element of the game is virtually generated in most of the games. Therefore, we propose a mixed game environment based on spatial augmented reality by using a creature that really exists. In the proposed game environment, tracking based on camera images created in real-time enables the provision of information about the real creature that is both still and moving. The game environment is presented with virtual object by using the coordinate of a real creature. Then, spatial augmented reality technology is applied for mixing a real creature and virtual game elements. Thus, the game scene is displayed by the spatial augmented reality technique based on the real-time coordinate of real creatures. Moreover, by providing the realistic game environment based on the spatial augmented reality, our system can be applied to various game contents that are actually felt as real. Most importantly, our system arouses the players' interest in a new kind of game environment.

  • Oculus Rift is the most universal VR (virtual Reality) headset for gamers and FPS (First Person Shooting) is the most suitable game genre to play with VR. Using VR can increase the player's sense of reality and make them feel as though they are in direct contact with the enemy while battling. The suggested VR game is a first person game where the player must defend a specific target against the surging enemy all within the time limit. Many objects will need to be used in this method. Object pooling will be used in order to manage all the numerous objects. When an object is repeatedly created and deleted it typically overwhelms the memory. To resolve this issue the game initially summons the object at the beginning of the scene and afterwards only uses the object when needed, lessening the burden on the memory. A ranking system is implemented to keep the game records in order to stimulate a competitive spirit between the players, and the game has received positive response during test play among college students in their 20s.

  • If there exists a model that calculates the proper candidate position whenever the game of Go is in progress, it can be used for setting up the prototype of the candidate generation algorithm without using case-based reasoning. In this paper, we analyze Go through combinatorial game theory and on the basis of probability matrix (PM) showing the difference of the territory of the black and the white. We design and implement a candidate generation system(CGS) to find the candidates at a situation in Go. CGS designed in this paper can compute Influence power, safety, probability value(PV), and PM and then generate candidate positions for a present scene, once a stone is played at a scene. The basic strategy generates five candidates for the Present scene, and then chooses one with the highest PV. CGS generates the candidate which emphasizes more defence tactics than attack ones. In the opening game of computer Go, we can know that CGS which has no pattern is somewhat superior to NEMESIS which has the Joseki pattern.

  • Although computer games seem to be efficient tools for facilitating and supporting situated learning in Europe, GBL(game based learning) is less likely in Korea. The objectives of this paper are to address the causes of the problem and evaluate a serious game for history GBL. We review various cases of history GBL projects in European School Net, commercial games and serious games which are related to history. We draw a demand of our game's structural type, learning criterion, basic model of instruction, and executable prototype from the analysis results. Scene management educators pursue and dependencies of turning points in the history are critical differentiator. An evaluation team of educators, learners, and edu-game managers evaluates that the prototype is suitable model for application in history instruction.
