In meshless methods some techniques to impose essential boundary conditions have been developed since the approximations do not satisfy Kronecker delta properties at nodal points. In this study, new scheme for imposing essential boundary conditions is developed. Weight functions are modified by multiplying with auxiliary weight functions and the resulting shape functions satisfy Kronecker delta property on the bound ary nodes. In addition, the resulting shape functions possess and interpolation features on the boundary segments where essential boundary conditions are prescribed. Therefore the essential boundary conditions can be exactly satisfied with the new method. More importantly, the impositions of essential boundary conditions using the present method is relatively easy as in finite element method. Numerical examples show that the method also retains high convergence rate comparable to Lagrange multiplier method.
A crack model for the fracture in concrete based on meshless method is proposed in this paper. The cracks in concrete are classified into micro-cracks or macro-cracks respectively according to their widths, and different numerical approaches are adopted for them. The micro-cracks are represented with smeared crack approach whilst the macro-cracks are represented with discrete cracks that are made up with additional nodes and boundaries. The widely used meshless method, Element-free Galerkin method, is adopted instead of finite element method to model the concrete, so that the discrete crack approach is easier to be implemented with the convenience of arranging node distribution in the meshless method. Rotating-Crack-Model is proved to be preferred over Fixed-Crack-Model for the smeared cracks of this composite crack model due to its better performance on mesh bias. Numerical examples show that this composite crack model can take advantage of the positive characteristics in the smeared and discrete approaches, and overcome some of their disadvantages.
In this study, using the numerical model, the flow motion around skewed abutment is investigated to evaluate the skewness effect on the flow distribution. The skewness angle of the abutment which make with main flow direction is changed from $30\circ$ to $150\circ$ with increments of $10\circ$ while the contraction ratios due to the abutment are kept constant. For the investigation of the combined effects on the relationship between the skewness angle and flow intensities, this process will be .repeated fer different types of abutment (single and double) with different flow intensities. The maximum velocities and the velocity distributions, which can be obtained from each angle, are examined and analyzed corresponding to different angles of inclination. Based on successive model applications, an empirical expression, given in a function of contracted ratio and skewness angle, is derived for relating velocity amplifications according to the angle variations.
In this paper, a uniformly convergent numerical scheme is designed for solving singularly perturbed reaction-diffusion problems. The problem is converted to an equivalent weak form and then a Galerkin finite element method is used on a piecewise uniform Shishkin mesh with linear basis functions. The convergence of the developed scheme is proved and it is shown to be almost fourth order uniformly convergent in the maximum norm. To exhibit the applicability of the scheme, model examples are considered and solved for different values of a singular perturbation parameter ε and mesh elements. The proposed scheme approximates the exact solution very well.

Previous works about the cylindrical shape elastic body which is under longitudinal temperature distribution mostly show the results of free expansion, therefore exact thermo-elastic analysis is needed. The object of this work is to analyze the thermo-elastic problem of the hollow cylinder when the cylinder is under longitudinal temperature distribution. In this paper, the analytical solution is found by using Galerkin vector, and it is compared by the results of FEM. For displacements of cylinder, analytical values are almost same as the results of FEM, but free expansion is not fit for analytical solution and the results of FEM. stresses from analytical solution and the results of FEM show good agreement also. but the results are different near the end boundary, since St. Venant principle is applied.
Shallow water equations were applied to the flow in and through the opening to a coastal bay with different open boundary conditions. The open boundaries, shaped like a semi-circle, have various radii. the open boundaries therefore are defined in terms of radius given by multiple of the opening width, 2B. It was found from numerical experiments that for adequate results proper radius of the boundary is 3B or greater and that for radius greater than 3B the solutions become stable. For the solution of the shallow water equations a typical Galerkin's finite element method was used.
The governing equation of flow in porous media is developed on the bases of the continuity equation of fluid for transient flow through a saturated-unsaturated zone, and substitution of Darcy's law. The numerical solutions are obtained by finite element method based on the Galerkin principles weighted residuals. The analysis are carried out by using the unsteady storm data observed and rainfall intensities which are obtained by using the rainfall excess model in considering of the initial losses. The functional relationships between the hydraulic conductivity, capillary pressure head and volumetric water content are applied to the flow of water through unsaturated soil varied with changes of water content.

For the effective analysis of an engineering problem, meshless methods which require only positioning finite points without the element meshing recently have been proposed and being studied extensively. Meshless methods have difficulty in imposing essential boundary conditions directly, because non-interpolate shape functions originated from an approximation process are used. So some techniques, which are Lagrange multiplier method, modified variational principles and coupling with finite elements and so on, were introduced in order to impose essential boundary conditions. In spite of these methods, imposition of essential boundary conditions have still many problems like as non-positive definiteness, inaccuracy and negation of meshless characteristics. In this paper, we propose a new method which modifies shape function. Through numerical tests, convergence, accuracy and validity of this method are compared with the standard EFGM which uses Lagrange multiplier method or modified variational principles. According to this study, the proposed method shows the comparable accuracy and efficiency.
In this study the stress analysis of orthotropic thin plate with arbitrary shapes for different boundary conditionsis investigated. Meshfreemethod is applied to static analysis of thin plates with various geometries based on the Kirchhoff classical plate theory. According to the meshfree method the domain of the plates are expressed through a set of nodes without using mesh. In this method, a set of nodes are defined in a standard rectangular domain, then via a third order map, these nodes are transferred to the main domain of the original geometry; therefore the analysis of the plates can be done. Herein, Meshless local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) as a meshfree numerical method is utilized. The MLS function in MLPG does not satisfy essential boundary conditions using Delta Kronecker. In the MLPG method, direct interpolation of the boundary conditions can be applied due to constructing node by node of the system equations. The detailed parametric study is conducted, focusing on the arbitrary geometries of the thin plates. Results show that the meshfree method provides better accuracy rather than finite element method. Also, it is found that trend of the figures have good agreement with relevant published papers.

The understanding and prediction of the behavior of flow in open channels are important to the solution of a wide variety of practical flow problems in water resources engineering. Recently, frequent drought has increased the necessity of an effective water resources control and management of river flows for reserving instream flow. The objective of this study is to develop an efficient and accurate finite element model based on Streamline Upwind/Petrov-Galerkin(SU/PG) scheme for analyzing and predicting two dimensional flow features in complex natural rivers. Several tests were performed in developed all elements(4-Node, 6-Node, 8-Node elements) for the purpose of validation and verification of the developed model. The U-shaped channel of flow and natural river of flow were performed for tests. The results were compared with these of laboratory experiments and RMA-2 model. Such results showed that solutions of high order elements were better accurate and improved than those of linear elements. Also, the suggested model displayed reasonable velocity distribution compare to RMA-2 model in meandering domain for application of natural river flow. Accordingly, the developed finite element model is feasible and produces reliable results for simulation of two dimensional natural river flow. Also, One contribution of this study is to present that results can lead to significant gain in analyzing the accurate flow behavior associated with hydraulic structure such as weir and water intake station and flow of chute and pool.
