  • This study was carried out fusion-welded butt joints in SWS 490A high strength steel subjected to tensile test that load-deflection curve. The windowed or short-time Fourier transform(WFT or STFT) makes possible for the analysis of non-stationary or transient signals into a joint time-frequency domain and the wavelet transform(WT) is used to decompose the acoustic emission(AE) signal into various discrete series of sequences over different frequency bands. In this paper, for acoustic emission signal analysis to use a continuous wavelet transform, in which the Gabor wavelet base on a Gaussian window function is applied to the time-frequency domain. A wavelet transform is demonstrated and the plots are very powerful in the recognition of the acoustic emission features. As a result, the technique of acoustic emission is ideally suited to study variables which control time and stress dependent fracture or damage process in metallic materials.

  • The rigid body properties of a structure may be estimated easily if the mass-line of the structure could be taken exactly. However, the exact mass-line may be hard to be obtained exactly in experiments. The mass line value can be read from the mass line in frequency response function. However, the mass lines in the frequency response function sometimes show the fluctuation with frequency, and it cannot be read correctly. In this paper, the wavelet transform is applied to obtain the good mass line value. The mass line calculated by using wavelet transform has unique value and showed in the range of fluctuated values of frequency response function. The rigid body properties obtained by wavelet transform also showed better results than those by fourier transform.

  • In this paper, adaptive Facial Emotional Recognition system based on Gabor Wavelet Neural Network, considering six feature Points in face image to extract specific features of facial expression, is proposed. Levenberg-Marquardt-based training methodology is used to formulate initial network, including feature extraction stage. Therefore, heuristics in determining feature extraction process can be excluded. Moreover, to make an adaptive network for new user, Q-learning which has enhanced reward function and unsupervised fuzzy neural network model are used. Q-learning enables the system to ge optimal Gabor filters' sets which are capable of obtaining separable features, and Fuzzy Neural Network enables it to adapt to the user's change. Therefore, proposed system has a good on-line adaptation capability, meaning that it can trace the change of user's face continuously.

  • This paper presents a vowel onset point (VOP) detection method based on the human auditory system. This method maps the "perceptual" frequency scale, i.e. Mel scale onto a linear acoustic frequency, and then establishes a series of Triangular Mel-weighted Filter Bank simulate the function of band pass filtering in human ear. This nonlinear critical-band filter bank helps greatly reduce the data dimensionality, and eliminate the effect of harmonic waves to make the formants more prominent in the nonlinear spaced Mel spectrum. The sum of mel spectrum peaks energy is extracted as feature for each frame, and the instinct at which the energy amplitude starts rising sharply is detected as VOP, by convolving with Gabor window. For the single-word database which contains 12 vowels articulated with different kinds of consonants, the experimental results showed a good average detection rate of 72.73%, higher than other vowel detection methods based on short-time energy and zero-crossing rate.

  • The design of optimal filter yielding optimal texture feature separation is a most effective technique in many torture analyzing areas, such as perception of surface, object, shape and depth. But, most optimal filter design approaches are restricted to the issue of computational complexity and supervised problems. In this paper, Our proposed method yields new insight into the design of optimal Gabor filters for segmenting multiple texture images. The optimal frequency of Gator filter is turned to the optimal frequency of the distinct texture in frequency domain. In order to show the performance of the designed filters, we have attempted to build a various texture images. Our experimental results show that the performance of the system is very successful.

  • In this paper, a higher-order feedforward neural network called ridge polynomial network (RPN) which shows good approximation capability for nonlnear continuous functions defined on compact subsets in multi-dimensional Euclidean spaces, is presented. This network provides more efficient and regular structure as compared to ordinary higher-order feedforward networks based on Gabor-Kolmogrov polynomial expansions, while maintating their fast learning property. the ridge polynomial network is a generalization of the pi-sigma network (PSN) and uses a specialform of ridge polynomials. It is shown that any multivariate polynomial can be exactly represented in this form, and thus realized by a RPN. The approximation capability of the RPNs for arbitrary continuous functions is shown by this representation theorem and the classical weierstrass polynomial approximation theorem. The RPN provides a natural mechanism for incremental function approximation based on learning algorithm of the PSN. Simulation results on several applications such as multivariate function approximation and pattern classification assert nonlinear approximation capability of the RPN.

  • For successful guided-wave damage inspection, the appropriate signal processing of measured wave signals is very important. The objective of this paper is to introduce an efficient signal processing technique especially suitable for the guided-waves used for damage detection. The key idea of this technique is to model guided-waves by chirp functions of special form considering the dispersion phenomenon. To determine the parameter of the chirp functions simulating guided-waves, the matching pursuit algorithm is employed. The damage information in waveguides can be extracted by pulse-characterizing parameters. The effectiveness of present method is checked with the guided wave-based damage inspection.
