  • Generation of accurate ground coordinates from high resolution satellite image are becoming increasingly of interest. The primary focus of this paper is to compute satellite direct sensor model (DSM) and rational function model (RFM) for accurate generation of ground coordinates from high resolution satellite images. Being based on this we presented an algorithm to be able to efficiently ground coordinates about large area with introducing RFM(rational function model) method applied to rigorous sensor modeling standing on basis of satellite orbit dynamics and collinearity equation, and sensor modeling of high-resolution satellite data like IKONOS, QuickBird, KOMPSAT-2 and others. The general high resolution satellite measures the position, velocity and attitude data of satellite using star, gyro, and GPS sensors.

  • In this paper, we implement a place information system for missing children using embedded board. In the implementation, the embedded board receives location information from GPS satellites, parsing GGA information which includes current time and location coordinates from the satellite information and sends them to the location management server. The server locates a missing child using the location information from embedded board together with server database. We implement an application program for the system. The program shows current location of a child and its moving path and browses the corresponding map from coordinates mapping.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of coordinate transformation between the WGS84 and the Bessel ellipsoids according to the assumed values of the geoidal height on Bessel ellipsoid at the geodetic datum origin of Korea were investigated. For this, based on GPS data of 11 control points in Chungnam and Chungbuk province, the mean shift values between ellipsoids were calculated in each case. The geoidal heights on the Bessel ellipsoid were modelled in the area and the coordinate transformation coefficients were derived, and then the accuracy of the transformed coordinates according to fluctuations in geoidal heights were studied.

  • Image retrieval is one of the most exciting and rapidly growing research issues in the field of multimedia technology. This paper proposes a new method that performs search the relevant images by using query-by-example. The proposed method for search and retrieval of images utilizes the location information where the image had been taken. The system associates the photo images with their corresponding GPS coordinates that are used as metadata for searching. Experimental results show that the proposed method demonstrates better performance improving up to 59% of average recall and 49% of average precision. Moreover, we learned from the experimental results geo-location information embedded within the image header is more effective and positive on the search and storage.

  • In the airborne laser survey with GPS/INS, based on kinematic, the installation and operation of GPS base stations is necessary to allow three-dimensional location coordinates to be obtained quickly and precisely. However, in many cases, GPS base stations operate under difficult conditions. In this paper, we investigate the substitutability of continuously operating reference stations (CORS) for base stations, and we examine the influence of the distance between aircraft GPS and CORS on the Z-value. The results of our study demonstrate that, if the performance of GPS base stations within regulation distance is replaced with that of CORS, sufficient accuracy is guaranteed. Moreover, the performance of CORS beyond regulation distance is fairly good.

  • This paper describes general procedure and results of the GPS 3rd odor network adjustment which has been carried out for determining coordinates sets with respect to new Korean Geodetic Datum, so-call Korean Geodetic Datum 2002 (KGD 2002). The adjustment begins with minimally constrained adjustments with respect to each of the 69 campaign networks. This was followed by constructing and adjusting sixteen block network. After detecting and removing outliers in the observation file, an attempt was made by applying the empirical stochastic modeling techniques used in the 2nd order network adjustment, so as to determine the magnitude of absolute and relative error for the estimated baseline vector from the GPS data processing. The over constrained adjustment were, in sequence, performed against each of the block network. In this adjustment, both of the 2nd order control points in the block network and the 3rd order control points overlapped with adjacent network whose coordinates were already determined from a preceding adjustment. The final adjustment results have shown that the accuracy of the 3rd order network adjustment was better than 1cm and 2cm in horizontal and vertical component, respectively.

  • In this paper, we studied the path determination algorithm of the guidance robot for the visually impaired. Using the guidance robot for the visually impaired, the visually impaired can go to the destination where they want without other's heir. The navigation path of the guidance robot for the visually impaired must be the optimal path not only the shortest but also the most safe, which is different from a shortest path for common people. GPS and electronic map are used for the location information of the visually impaired. We corrected the error by converting the coordinates of location information from GPS, which includes maximum several tens of meters error, to the coordinates of electronic map. Information such as simple path and direction to the destination is not enough because it may be different between a going path from the start to the destination and a coming path from the destination to the start as around environment. So, we added information which can be dangerous for the visually impaired such as driveway, sidewalk without braille blocks, crosswalk, stairs and overpass, each has weight value as dangerous degree, when matching the GPS information to the electronic map, enough large as 1:5,000 scale.

  • This paper proposed transformation coefficients suitable to South Korea for the establishment of coordinate transformation system between Bessel and WGS84 ellipsoids. For this, the coordinates transformation algorithms concerned with parameter methods was developed, and global test network which has 15 astronomical points in South Korea were designed. Based on signals received from GPS, computed the geoid undulation by GPS/Leveling, and derived parameters(3-, 4-, 6-, and 7-parameter) for transformation between each ellipsoid, applied global networks to study the characteristics of transformation according to parameters. Through the successful application of 7-parameters derived in this study and 7-parameters proposed by DMA for map projection, transformation coefficients suitable to South Korea was proposed.

  • More recently, multiple reference based RTK GPS techniques(VRS : Virtual Reference System) are becoming increasingly important for many precise GPS applications in many countries to overcome the constrained distance limitations of standard RTK systems. The precision of the position solutions of the rover receiver is closely connected with that of the corresponding virtual reference points(VRPs). The objective of this paper is to investigate the accuracy and performance of the VRPs on the test network for static positioning in post processing mode. For this, some VRPs at the inside and outside of test network have made in post mode, and the overall analysis results were presented by comparing the solution for the VRPs from the existed GPS reference station with the true values of the coordinates used to produce the observation data. The results show the reasonable accuracies of VRPs in the network area by using the VRS concept in post mode.

  • In this paper, we proposed the GPS position data correction method for autonomous land navigation using vanishing point property and a monocular vision system. Simulations are carried out over driving distances of approximately 60 km on the basis of realistic road data. In straight road, the proposed method reduces GPS position error to minimum more than 63% and positioning errors within less than 0.5m are observed. However, the average accuracy of the method is not presented. because it is difficult to estimate it in curve road or other road environments.
