경제성장과 산업구조 변화에 따른 장기 온실가스 배출량 전망 시나리오 분석 (An Analysis of Long-Term Scenarios for The GHG Emissions Projections Considering Economic Growth and Industrial Structure Change)

  • Both economic growth and industrial structure have great influence on energy consumption and GHG emissions. This study analyzed long-term scenarios for GHG emissions projections considering economic growth and industry value added change. In consideration of 3 GDP and 3 industry value added outlook, total 9 scenarios were set; 'Assembly Industry Baseline(AI)', 'Assembly KEIT industry(AK)', 'Assembly Advanced Country industry(AA)', 'KDI Industry Baseline(KI)', 'KDI KEIT industry(KK)', 'KDI Advanced Country industry(KA)', 'OECD Industry Baseline(OI)', 'OECD KEIT industry(OK)', and 'OECD Advanced Country industry(OA)' scenarios. In consideration of the GDP increase rate and industry value added outlook, it is estimated that AI scenario's GHG emissions would be 777 million tons of $CO_2eq$ in 2030. On the other hand, in the case of OA scenario, GHG emissions would be 560.2 million tons of $CO_2eq$ in 2030. Differences between AI scenario's and OA scenario's were 216.8 million tons of $CO_2eq$. It can be identified by that GDP and industry value added change have great influence on GHG emissions. In view of the fact that Korea's amount of GHG emission reduction targets in 2030 were 218.6 million tons of $CO_2eq$ that the result of this research could give us valuable insight.

시멘트산업의 CO2 배출계수 개발 및 대체연료 사용에 의한 온실가스 저감량 산정 연구 (Development of CO2 Emission Factors for Alternative Fuels with Assessment of Emission Reduction in Cement Industry)

  • We developed emission factors for alternative fuels used in cement industries in Korea and also estimated reduction in emissions of greenhouse gas (GHG) by the use of alternative fuels. Emission factors for GHG of waste tire, waste plastic, waste oil and RDF were estimated to be about 89, 78, 77 and 95 ton $CO_2$/TJ respectively. When compared with previous studies, most of the results showed similar trends. The calorific value estimation and elemental analysis for energy source were implemented in order to estimate the exact emission factors and the reduction of GHG emissions using alternative fuel. In the case of 'A' company, $CO_2$ emission from alternative fuels was about 4% lower than that of bituminous coal only. Also in case of company 'B', $CO_2$ emission from alternative fuels was about 1.4% lower than that of only bituminous coal. In Germany and Japan, alternative fuel is not regarded to be fuel consumption in cement industry. When applying this rule, the emission reductions were about 4.3% for company 'A' and 6.3% for company 'B'. The results of this study may be considered as a useful information for developing strategies in reducing GHG emissions.

넙치 양식장에서 발생하는 온실가스 배출량 산정 (Estimation of Green-House-Gas emissions from domestic aquaculture farm for flounders)

  • This study aims to estimate the Green-House-Gas emissions from domestic farmed flounder in the southern sea and Jeju-Do, where is mainly produced, by the assessment of energy consumptions and GHG emissions from domestic fish farms for establishing reduce standards of greenhouse gas from a sustainable perspective. It needs to analyze such GHG emission components as feed, electricity, fuel, fixed capital, fish respiration, and liquid oxygen in two locations by 4 stage running water type farm size of small, small and medium, large and medium, large scale. The result showed that the mean GHG emissions were $36.83kg{\cdot}CO_2/year$ in the southern sea and $24.33kg{\cdot}CO_2/year$ in Jeju-Do, respectively, in the stage of production per fish 1kg at 2 locations and farm size from domestic farmed flounders, and it will give to be useful for policy, planning, and regulation of aquaculture development with establishing GHG reduction standards.

실시간교통정보 이용에 따른 가솔린차량의 온실가스 저감효과 평가 (Evaluating GHG Emissions Reduced by Real-time Traffic Information in Gasoline Vehicle)

  • Real-time Traffic Information Service could play a key role in reducing incomplete combustion time remarkably since it can provide traffic information in real-time basis. Emission characteristics of test engines were studied in terms of travel distance and speed. The present study focused on a north district in Daegu, 12 km. The driving for the emission test was done at 8AM, 3PM, 7PM which represents various traffic conditions. The reduced emissions of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) have been measured for a travel distance running at different loads (conventional shortest route and Real-time Traffic Information) and GHG ($CO_2$, $CH_4$, $N_2O$) are all inventoried and calculated in terms of existing emission factors. The emission of GHG has been shown to reduce linearly with travel distance: $CO_2$ (9.15%), $CH_4$ (18.43%), $N_2O$(18.62%).

국내외 $CO_2$ 저감 및 처리 기술개발 정책동향 분석 (An Analysis on the Policy of $CO_2$Reduction and Sequestration Technology R&D in Advanced Countries and Korea)

  • Ever since the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC) was agreed to stabilized greenhouse gas(GHG) concentration in the atmosphere at 1992, most countries including Korea have been developing strategic plans and implementing a number of R&D programs to develop the measures to reduce the emission of GHG. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the plans and programs for our country to develop more competitive technologies and to be more active and attentive in international meetings. In this paper, the energy policies of advanced countries will be analysed and be compared each other along with the Korean policy. Furthermore, the carbon dioxide reduction and sequestration R&D programs in the countries will also be studied.

온라인 국제 화상회의 개최에 의한 CO2 저감량 산출 (A Calculation of CO2 Reduction from International Virtual Video-conference)

  • 본 논문은 국제 전기 통신연합(ITU)이 온실가스 감축을 고려하여 실시한 온라인 국제 화상회의를 통하여 감축된 CO2량을 오프라인으로 수행되었다고 가정한 경우와 비교하여 산출하였다. 국제전기통신연합(ITU)이 주관하여 2009년 9월 서울에서 실시된 "The Power of ICTs to save The planet" 심포지엄은 CO2 배출 저감을 위하여 참가자들이 온라인을 통하여 원격으로 회의에 참석하도록 권유되었다. 원격 화상회의를 유도한 결과, 해외 참가자 46명과 국내 참가자 170명 중 16명이 원격 화상회의로 참석하였는데 이것은 약 94.7ton의 CO2 배출량 저감에 해당되는 것으로 산출되었다. 이번 국제 심포지엄은 탄소 저감차원에서 온라인과 오프라인으로 병행 실시되어 큰 이슈가 된 국제적인 첫 시도로서, 이러한 ITU의 움직임은 향후 다른 국제 심포지엄과 포럼 개최에 큰 영향을 미칠 것으로 판단된다.

사이드스커트와 보트테일을 이용한 대형화물차량의 연비개선 효과 및 온실가스 감축량 추정 (Estimation of GHG Emissions Reduction and Fuel Economy Improvement of Heavy-Duty Trucks by Using Side Skirt and Boat Tail)

  • Recently, the need for technology development of commercial vehicle fuel consumption has emerged. Fuel economy improvement of transport equipment and transportation efficiency, and increasing attention to the logistics cost reduction measures. Increasing attention to the logistics cost reduction measures by fuel economy improvement of transport equipment and transportation efficiency. In this study, we have installed aerodynamic reduction device (side skirt, boat tail) to 14.5 ton cargo trucks and 45 ft tractor-trailers. And the fuel consumption was compared installed before and after. Fuel economy assessment for the aerodynamic reduction value device was tested by modifying the SAE J1321 Joint TMC/SAE Fuel Consumption Test Procedure - Type II test in according domestic situation. Greenhouse gas reductions were calculated in accordance with the scenario, including fuel consumption test results. When the 14.5 ton cargo trucks has been equipped with side skirts and boat tail, it confirmed the improvement in fuel efficiency of 4.72%. One Heavy-duty truck's the annual greenhouse gas reductions value are $6.86ton\;CO_2\;eq$. And if applying the technology to more than 50% of registered 15 ton trucks, greenhouse gas reductions are calculated as $686,826ton\;CO_2\;eq./yr$.

Impact of livestock industry on climate change: Case Study in South Korea - A review

  • In recent years, there has been a growing argument attributing the primary cause of global climate change to livestock industry, which has led to the perception that the livestock industry is synonymous with greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. However, a closer examination of the global GHG emission by sector reveals that the energy sector is responsible for the majority, accounting for 76.2% of the total, while agriculture contributes 11.9%. According to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the total GHG emissions associate with the livestock supply chain amount to 14.5%. Within this, emissions from direct sources, such as enteric fermentation and livestock manure treatment, which are not part of the front and rear industries, represent only 7%. Although it is true that the increase in meat consumption driven by global population growth and rising incomes, has contributed to higher methane (CH4) emissions resulting from enteric fermentation in ruminant animals, categorizing the livestock industry as the primary source of GHG emissions oversimplifies a complex issue and disregards objective data. Therefore, it may be a misleading to solely focus on the livestock sector without addressing the significant emissions from the energy sector, which is the largest contributor to GHG emissions. The top priority should be the objective and accurate measurement of GHG emissions, followed by the development and implementation of suitable reduction policies for each industrial sector with significant GHG emissions contributions.

원자력과 신재생에너지 발전설비 확대에 따른 온실가스 저감 잠재량에 관한 연구 (Assessment of GHG Emission Reduction Potential in Extension of Nuclear and Renewable Energy Electricity Generation)

  • 2005년 2월 교토의정서가 효력을 발휘하게 됨에 따라 우리나라는 세계 10위의 이산화탄소 배출국으로서 2013년 이후에는 감축의무를 지어야 할 실정이다. 특히 온실가스 배출량의 약 30%가 발전부문에 의한 것이므로 전환부문의 에너지 소비 저감은 매우 중요하다. 이에 정부는 온실가스 감축환경에 대응하기 위하여 "제1차 국가에너지기본계획"을 발표하여 원전설비를 2030년까지 최대 41%까지 확대하고, 신재생에너지보급률 또한 11%로 높이겠다는 목표를 내세웠다. 이에 근거하여 원자력과 신재생에너지발전설비를 확대하였을 경우 온실가스 저감 잠재량과 그 유효성을 LEAP(Long-range Energy Alternative Planing system)을 이용하여 정량적으로 분석하였다. 분석결과 2030년 기준으로 총 $CO_2$ 발생 저감률은 28.8% 였다. 또한 BAU 시나리오 발전량을 토대로 하였을 때 유연탄발전 $0.85\;kgCO_2/kWh$, LNG발전 $0.51\;kgCO_2/kWh$의 단위 발전량당 온실가스 배출량을 보였다. 따라서 기존설비를 대체할 시, 유연탄발전을 대체할 경우에 온실가스 저감 효과가 크다는 결론을 보였다.

포항철강산업단지의 온실가스 잠재 감축량 분석 (Analysis of Potential Greenhouse Gas Mitigation in Pohang Steel Industrial Complex)

  • 포항철강산업단지의 온실가스 잠재 감축량에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 2010년 기준 철강산단의 온실가스 배출량은 4,174,000~4,574,000 $tCO_2-eq$로 추정되고, 정부의 온실가스 감축 목표를 달성하기 위해서 2020년까지 최소 552,000 $tCO_2-eq$의 온실가스 감축이 요구된다. 온실가스 잠재 감축량을 추정하기 위하여, 자발적 온실가스 감축사업에 등록된 사례 기술들을 온실가스 목표관리제도 대상으로 지정된 51개 기업의 공정에 적용하였다. 기술적 용이성과 투자비 회수기간 측면에서 분석한 결과, 연료전환과 폐열회수를 이용하여 단기적으로 160,000 $tCO_2-eq$를 감축할 수 있는 것으로 예상된다. 중기적으로는 철강금속 산업 분야에 적용 가능한 열 부문과 전기 부문 기술을 이용하면 각각 229,000과 125,000 $tCO_2-eq$를 감축할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다. 온실가스 예상 목표 감축량 대비 중 단기 기술로 달성할 수 없는 차이(38,000 $tCO_2-eq$)에 대해서는 장기적으로 근본적인 공정 혁신과 최신 설비 및 신재생에너지 기술 도입을 통한 감축 노력이 필요하다.
