Robots will be able to coexist with humans and support humans effectively in near future. One of the most important aspects in the development of human-friendly robots is to cooperation between humans and robots. In this paper, we proposed a method for multi-object identification in order to achieve such human-centered system and robot localization in intelligent space. The intelligent space is the space where many intelligent devices, such as computers and sensors, are distributed. The Intelligent Space achieves the human centered services by accelerating the physical and psychological interaction between humans and intelligent devices. As an intelligent device of the Intelligent Space, a color CCD camera module, which includes processing and networking part, has been chosen. The Intelligent Space requires functions of identifying and tracking the multiple objects to realize appropriate services to users under the multi-camera environments. In order to achieve seamless tracking and location estimation many camera modules are distributed. They causes some errors about object identification among different camera modules. This paper describes appearance based object representation for the distributed vision system in Intelligent Space to achieve consistent labeling of all objects. Then, we discuss how to learn the object color appearance model and how to achieve the multi-object tracking under occlusions.

Named entity recognition (NER) technique can play a crucial role in extracting information from the web. While NER systems with relatively high performances have been developed based on careful manipulation of terms with a statistical model, term mismatches often degrade the performance of such systems because the strings of all the candidate entities are not known a priori. Despite the importance of lexical-level term mismatches for NER systems, however, most NER approaches developed to date utilize only the term string itself and simple term-level features, and do not exploit the semantic features of terms which can handle the variations of terms effectively. As a solution to this problem, here we propose to match the semantic concepts of term units in restaurant named entities (NEs), where these units are automatically generated from multiple resolutions of a semantic tree. As a test experiment, we applied our restaurant NER scheme to 49,153 nouns in Korean restaurant web pages. Our scheme achieved an average accuracy of 87.89% when applied to test data, which was considerably better than the 78.70% accuracy obtained using the baseline system.

Electric load forecasting is essential for effective power system planning and operation. Complex and nonlinear relationships exist between the electric loads and their exogenous factors. In addition, time-series load data has non-stationary characteristics, such as trend, seasonality and anomalous day effects, making it difficult to predict the future loads. This paper proposes a locally-weighted polynomial neural network (LWPNN), which is a combination of a polynomial neural network (PNN) and locally-weighted regression (LWR) for daily shortterm peak load forecasting. Model over-fitting problems can be prevented effectively because PNN has an automatic structure identification mechanism for nonlinear system modeling. LWR applied to optimize the regression coefficients of LWPNN only uses the locally-weighted learning data points located in the neighborhood of the current query point instead of using all data points. LWPNN is very effective and suitable for predicting an electric load series with nonlinear and non-stationary characteristics. To confirm the effectiveness, the proposed LWPNN, standard PNN, support vector regression and artificial neural network are applied to a real world daily peak load dataset in Korea. The proposed LWPNN shows significantly good prediction accuracy compared to the other methods.

The mobility of tracked vehicles is mainly influenced by the interaction between tracks and soil, so that the characteristics of their interactions are quite important fur the tracked vehicle study. In particular, the track tension is closely related to the maneuverability of tracked vehicles and the durability of tracks and suspension systems. In order to minimize the excessive load on the tracks and to prevent the peal-off of tracks from the road-wheels, the Dynamic Track Tensioning System (DTTS) which maintains the optimum track tension throughout the maneuver is required. It consists of track tension monitoring system, track tension controller and hydraulic system. In this paper, a dynamic track tensioning system is developed for tracked vehicles which are subject to various maneuvering tasks. The track tension is estimated based on the idler assembly model. Using the monitored track tension and con sidering the highly nonlinear hydraulic units, fuzzy logic controllers are designed in order to control the track tension. The track tensioning performance of the proposed DTTS is verified through the simulation of the Multi -body Dynamics tool.
To enhance the production of flavonoids [baicalin, wogonin-7-Ο-glucuronic acid (GA)], which are secondary metabolites of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi(G.) plant cells, a multilayer perceptron control system was applied to regulate the substrate feeding in a fed-batch cultivation. The optimal profile for the substrate feeding rate in a fed-batch culture of S. baicalensis G. was determined by simulating a kinetic model using a genetic algorithm. Process variable profiles were then prepared for the construction of a multilayer perceptron controller that included massive parallelism, trainability, and fault tolerance. An error back-propagation algorithm was applied to train the multiplayer perceptron. The experimental results showed that neurocontrol incorporated with a genetic algorithm improved the flavonoid production compared with a simple fuzzy logic control system. Furthermore, the specific production yield and flavonoid productivity also increased.

The rise of music resources has led to a parallel rise in the need to manage thousands of songs on user devices. So users have a tendency to build playlist for manage songs. However the manual selection of songs for creating playlist is a troublesome work. This paper proposes an auto playlist generation system considering user context of use and preferences. This system has two separated systems; 1) the mood and emotion classification system and 2) the music recommendation system. Firstly, users need to choose just one seed song for reflecting their context of use. Then system recommends candidate song list before the current song ends in order to fill up user playlist. User also can remove unsatisfied songs from the recommended song list to adapt the user preference model on the system for the next song list. The generated playlists show well defined mood and emotion of music and provide songs that the preference of the current user is reflected.

This paper presents an optimized integrated task planning and control approach for manipulating a nonholonomic robot by mobile manipulators. Then, we derive a kinematics model and a mobility of the mobile manipulator(M2) platform considering it as the combined system of the manipulator and the mobile robot. to improve task execution efficiency utilizing the redundancy, optimal trajectory of the mobile manipulator(M2) platform are maintained while it is moving to a new task point. A cost function for optimality can be defined as a combination of the square errors of the desired and actual configurations of the mobile robot and of the task robot. In the combination of the two square errors, a newly defined mobility of a mobile robot is utilized as a weighting index. With the aid of the gradient method, the cost function is minimized, so the path trajectory that the M2 platform generates is optimized. The simulation results of the 2 ink planar nonholonomic M2 platform are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

The sensorless scheme for Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) drives must have the robustness and reliability because the noise and error are sensitive. These elements make electrically noisy environments due to the proximity of high current power circuits with small signal electronic circuits when SRM drives. Also, due to the leakage inductances and finite coupling capacitances, these can cause the noise on any low voltage current and voltage measurement circuit. The position estimate error occurs because the current and voltage including the noise are sued as the inputs of sensorless algorithm. In this paper the high robustness and resistance of input noise re described. The fuzzy logic based rotor estimation algorithm and the observer model are used to reduce the tolerance of input data.

In this paper, experimental studies of a neural network (NN) control technique for non-model based position control of the x-y table robot are presented. Decentralized neural networks are used to control each axis of the x-y table robot separately. For an each neural network compensator, an inverse control technique is used. The neural network control technique called the reference compensation technique (RCT) is conceptually different from the existing neural controllers in that the NN controller compensates for uncertainties in the dynamical system by modifying desired trajectories. The back-propagation learning algorithm is developed in a real time DSP board for on-line learning. Practical real time position control experiments are conducted on the x-y table robot. Experimental results of using neural networks show more excellent position tracking than that of when PD controllers are used only.

A ship's sailing route or plan is determined by the master as the decision maker of the vessel, and depends on the characteristics of the navigational environment and the conditions of the ship. The trajectory, which appears as a result of the ship's navigation, is monitored and stored by a Vessel Traffic Service center, and is used for an analysis of the ship's navigational pattern and risk assessment within a particular area. However, such an analysis is performed in the same manner, despite the different navigational environments between coastal areas and the harbor limits. The navigational environment within the harbor limits changes rapidly owing to construction of the port facilities, dredging operations, and so on. In this study, a support vector machine was used for processing and modeling the trajectory data. A K-fold cross-validation and a grid search were used for selecting the optimal parameters. A complicated traffic route similar to the circumstances of the harbor limits was constructed for a validation of the model. A group of vessels was composed, each vessel of which was given various speed and course changes along a specified route. As a result of the machine learning, the optimal route and voyage data model were obtained. Finally, the model was presented to Vessel Traffic Service operators to detect any anomalous vessel behaviors. Using the proposed data modeling method, we intend to support the decision-making of Vessel Traffic Service operators in terms of navigational patterns and their characteristics.
