  • The purpose of this study was to examine how students' perception of their mathematics teachers' instructional practices is associated with students' attitude toward mathematics, taking into account their self-efficacy in mathematics. The sample contained 4669 Korean fourth graders who participated in Trends in International Mathematics Science Study 2015. We used exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis to explore the factor structure of three latent variables and conducted structural equation modeling to examine the hypothesized model. The results revealed that when students positively perceived their teachers' instructional practices, they tended to have a positive attitude toward mathematics. We also found that students' self-efficacy beliefs in mathematics positively mediated the relationship between perceived teachers' instructional practices and personal attitude toward mathematics. We discuss the practical and methodological implications of these findings and offer directions for future studies.

  • With the advent of the 4th industrial revolution era, many countries around the world are making efforts to prepare for a new future. In addition to changes in the industrial structure, efforts are being made to reflect new changes in the education system to cultivate human resources. As one of the important parts of change, software education is reflected as a core area of the curriculum and introduced as a future competency in order to cultivate human resources who can prepare for and lead the change into a computer-oriented intelligent information society. In this study, the purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions of pre-service teachers on software education, analyze the direction and thoughts they have about elementary school information education, and examine the necessity and direction of the subject. Based on the responses of preliminary teachers, it was suggested that project-based learning is necessary for how SW education is carried out in the school field, and they answered that the evaluation should be performed through observational evaluation. In addition, as a result of examining the perception of prospective teachers, it was possible to see the result that SW education is recognized as an important competency for preparing for the future society.

  • This study analyzes the domestic kindergarten attached to elementary school, and that is to present the basic data to be established in the future on the basis of the problems seen in kindergarten attached to elementary school analysis of construction planning. For this study, selecting 10 kindergartens in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, and the selected spatial configuration of kindergarten. And then, analyzes Space Organization, Circulation Plan, Area Distribution, Spatial Hierarchy of them. The results were as follows. 1) The current kindergarten attached to elementary school is associated with the most elementary building planes are independent. 2) Most of them don't have space for secondary activities such as playroom or hallway space between the classrooms and the entrance. 3) Interior space is composed of educational space, service space, administrative space. 4) Kindergarten attached to elementary school should plan increase the area because it is small scale there are a lot of dead space. 5) The main users of kindergarten children should be planned simultaneously in a space that is used along with the teacher. Such a kindergarten attached to elementary school in order to be implemented in construction and environmental characteristics of the kindergarten curriculum developers and juxtaposition of kindergarten teachers and architects such exchanges should be made a doctor of the tripartite briskly.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how elementary science specialized teachers operate and how they have a perception of the science class in the COVID-19 situation. The number of participants in the study is 21 who are dedicated to science subjects in 2020. 21 teachers were given an open survey of science classes and future directions in the COVID-19 situation, and 8 out of 21 teachers were interviewed in-depth on how and why they did so. As a result of the study, first, the science classes before and after COVID-19 of primary science teachers were different. Under the COVID-19 situation, teachers identified the characteristics of online and offline classes and operated them in a way that was specific to their characteristics. Second, there was a common perception of teachers' classes on the basis of this science class operation style, which is that science classes should be operated as activities, that I would like to have classes that suit my taste as long as the policy allows, and that online classes cause students to lose motivation and widen their educational gap.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the trends of domestic research on mathematics teacher education in terms of timings, topics, methods, and subjects. For this purpose, a total of 111 articles dealing with mathematics teacher education, published since 1992 by the Korea Society of Educational Studies in Mathematics, were analyzed. The results of this study showed that the number of such articles has been rapidly increased since the late 2000's. Research on the professional development for teachers has been the most frequent topic but the studies dealing with teacher knowledge or orientation tend to be popular. Qualitative research methodology, specifically case study, has been most frequently employed in studying mathematics teacher education. The subjects for research included a similar portion of in-service and pre-service teachers, and elementary and secondary school teachers. Given these results, this paper closes with several implications for future research direction on mathematics teacher education.

  • Purpose: To investigate the prevalence of smoking behavior among elementary students which may serve as basic data for developing a smoking prevention program. Method: Questionnaires were given to 734 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders in five elementary schools in U county, North Chungcheong Province. Data were collected from 8 to 20 December, 2003; and analyzed using SPSS/PC for descriptive and chi-square statistics. Result: Of these students, 19.9% reported that they had smoked and 0.8% answered they are current smokers. They reported that the first smoking started during third grade (26.0%), at their homes (38.4%), and out of curiosity (74.0%). They reported severe coughing when they first smoked (56.2%). Smoking experiences were significantly related to grade, gender, and academic performance. Similarly, environmental characteristics such as residential area, parental status, father's job, parental attention, home atmosphere, and smoking siblings or friends were significantly related to smoking behavior. Among non-smokers, 86.4% intended not to smoke and 1.4% would like to smoke in the future. Conclusion: Certain school and environmental characteristics were associated with smoking experimentation. Therefore teachers and parents should use this information to develop and guide smoking prevention programs.

  • Elementary education in Korea has variously changed and developed during the last thirty years. Among all the progressive changes, the improvement of teaching conditions is considered to be the most fundamental one. The number of students assigned to a class or a teacher has decreased to a considerable extent. Cyber teaching-learning has been peformed at school and home, and English education has been emerged as a significant part of the Korean public education. The research issues constantly considered essential over the past three decades starting in the 1980's are those related to curricula, teaching-learning methods, training of teachers in-service, and education for upright characters. The practical and political issues should be dealt with to revise the three integrated subjects and text books into a sole integrated subject and text book, to double the credential of teachers in terms of professionalism and to decrease the number of students per teacher in Korea to the OECD level.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the accomodations for the disabled children of the elementary schools in Suwon and to give helpful information to the parents and teachers for the improvement of the independence of disabled children at school. We measured the ramps, toilets, doorways and other accomodations in 64 elementary schools according to the checklists. The checklists of these facilities were based on the legal requirements of "The Act for the Benefit of the Disabled, Elderly and Pregnant Women". The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics and the ${\chi}^2$ test. None of the investigated schools satisfied all the legal requirements of the facilities. Fifteen elementary schools had adequate accomodations for the disabled children which allowed them to move independently from the entrance of the school to their classrooms located on the first floor. Only eight of fifteen schools had elevators to access their classrooms upstairs. The schools were divided into two groups according to their construction dates; before and after April 11th 1998, when "The Act for the Benefit of the Disabled, Elderly and Pregnant Women" took effect. There were statistically significant differences in the number of toilets, the width of the toilet entrance, and the slope of the ramps between the two groups (p<.05). We suggest that the accomodations for the disabled children need to be established on a systematic and on-going basis in the future. The teachers and administrators should be more aware of the legal requirements for appropriate accomodations for the disabled children.
