  • This paper describes a Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system based on the radar driven fusion with camera. The objective of FCW system is to provide an appropriate alert with satisfying the evaluation scenarios of US-NCAP and a driver acceptance. For this purpose, this paper proposed a data fusion algorithm and a collision warning algorithm. The data fusion algorithm generates information of fusion target depending on the confidence of camera sensor. The collision warning algorithm calculates indexes and determines an appropriate alert-timing by using analysis results of manual driving data. The FCW system with the proposed data fusion and collision warning algorithm was investigated via scenarios of US-NCAP and a real-road driving. It is shown that the proposed FCW system can improve the accuracy of an alarm-timing and reduce the false alarm in real roads.

  • This paper proposes a data fusion algorithm of nonlinear multi sensor dynamic systems of synchronous sampling based on filtering step by step. Firstly, the object state variable at the next time index can be predicted by the previous global information with the systems, then the predicted estimation can be updated in turn by use of the extended Kalman filter when all of the observations aiming at the target state variable arrive. Finally a fusion estimation of the object state variable is obtained based on the system global information. Synchronously, we formulate the new algorithm and compare its performances with those of the traditional nonlinear centralized and distributed data fusion algorithms by the indexes that include the computational complexity, data communicational burden, time delay and estimation accuracy, etc.. These compared results indicate that the performance from the new algorithm is superior to the performances from the two traditional nonlinear data fusion algorithms.

  • Recently, Ryu et al. proposed a multiple target DOA tracking algorithm, which has good features that it has no data association problem and simple structure. But its performance is seriously degraded in the low signal-to-noise ratio. In this paper, a measurement fusion method is presented based on ML(Maximum Likelihood), and the new DOA tracking algorithm is proposed by incorporating the presented fusion method into Ryu's algorithm. The proposed algorithm has a better tracking performance than that of Ryu's algorithm, and it sustains the good features of Ryu's algorithm.

  • A novel multifocus image fusion algorithm based on NSCT is proposed in this paper. In order to not only attain the image focusing properties and more visual information in the fused image, but also sensitive to the human visual perception, a local multidirection variance (LEOV) fusion rule is proposed for lowpass subband coefficient. In order to introduce more visual saliency, a modified local contrast is defined. In addition, according to the feature of distribution of highpass subband coefficients, a direction vector is proposed to constrain the modified local contrast and construct the new fusion rule for highpass subband coefficients selection The NSCT is a flexible multiscale, multidirection, and shift-invariant tool for image decomposition, which can be implemented via the atrous algorithm. The proposed fusion algorithm based on NSCT not only can prevent artifacts and erroneous from introducing into the fused image, but also can eliminate 'block effect' and 'frequency aliasing' phenomenon. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieved better fusion results than wavelet-based and CT-based fusion method in contrast and clarity.

  • A filtering algorithm based on the decentralized moving average Kalman filter with uncertainties is proposed in this paper. The proposed filtering algorithm presented combines the Kalman filter with the moving average strategy. A decentralized fusion algorithm with the weighted sum structure is applied to the local moving average Kalman filters (LMAKFs) of different window lengths. The proposed algorithm has a parallel structure and allows parallel processing of observations. Hence, it is more reliable than the centralized algorithm when some sensors become faulty. Moreover, the choice of the moving average strategy makes the proposed algorithm robust against linear discrete-time dynamic model uncertainties. The derivation of the error cross-covariances between the LMAKFs is the key idea of studied. The application of the proposed decentralized fusion filter to dynamic systems within a multisensor environment demonstrates its high accuracy and computational efficiency.

  • This paper presents a simple sensor fusion algorithm using neural network for navigation of mobile robots with obstacle avoidance and trap recovery. The multiple sensors input sensor data to the input layer of neural network activating the input nodes. The multiple sensors used include optical encoders, ultrasonic sensors, infrared sensors, a magnetic compass sensor, and GPS sensors. The proposed sensor fusion algorithm is combined with the VFH(Vector Field Histogram) algorithm for obstacle avoidance and AGPM(Adaptive Goal Perturbation Method) which sets adaptive virtual goals to escape trap situations. The experiment results show that the proposed low-level fusion algorithm is effective for real-time navigation of mobile robot.

  • As current algorithms unable to perform effective fusion processing of unknown complex radar signals lacking database, and the result is unstable, this paper presents a multi-level fusion processing algorithm for complex radar signals based on evidence theory as a solution to this problem. Specifically, the real-time database is initially established, accompanied by similarity model based on parameter type, and then similarity matrix is calculated. D-S evidence theory is subsequently applied to exercise fusion processing on the similarity of parameters concerning each signal and the trust value concerning target framework of each signal in order. The signals are ultimately combined and perfected. The results of simulation experiment reveal that the proposed algorithm can exert favorable effect on the fusion of unknown complex radar signals, with higher efficiency and less time, maintaining stable processing even of considerable samples.

  • This paper presents an target tracking algorithm for fusion of radar and infrared(IR) sensor measurement data. Generally, fusion methods with Kalman filter assume that processing data obtained by radar and IR sensor are synchronized. It has much limitation to apply the fusion methods to real systems. A key point which is taken into account in the proposed algorithm is the fact that two asynchronous dissimilar data are fused by compensating the time difference of the measurements using radar's ranges and track state vectors. The proposed fusion algorithm in the paper is evaluated via a computer simulation with the existing track fusion and measurement fusion methods.
