Fumed Silica/Ceramic Wool 무기복합재의 제조 및 열적 성질 (Fabrication and Thermal Properties of Fumed Silica/Ceramic Wool Inorganic Composites)

  • Fumed Silica와 섬유상의 Ceramic Wool을 사용하여 경량의 무기복합재 샘플을 제조하기 위한 조건과 만들어진 샘플의 단열특성을 살펴보았다. 정량된 Fumed Silica 미세분말과 Ceramic Wool을 혼합한 반죽을 몰드에 넣고 상온에서 안정화시킨 후에 $150^{\circ}C$ 오븐에서 완전히 건조하여 샘플을 제작하였다. 소량의 PVA 계면접착제를 사용하지 않는 샘플에서는 Fumed Silica 조성비가 10-70wt% 사이에서 벌크밀도가 0.6-0.8 $g/cm^3$이었으며, 50wt% 이상의 샘플에서는 건조 수축으로 인한 크랙현상이 관찰되었다. 그러나 3wt%의 PVA를 사용한 샘플의 벌크밀도는 절반 정도로 크게 감소하면서도 기계적 특성과 단열성은 향상되었다. 만들어진 샘플들은 $800^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온에서도 열크랙 없이 안정한 열적 특성을 보여주었으며, 샘플의 단열성은 Fumed Silica 조성비가 높아질수록 향상되는 것으로 나타났다. Fumed Silica 30wt%인 샘플의 열전도도는 $500^{\circ}C$에서 약 0.08 $W/m^{\circ}K$의 우수한 단열 특성을 보여 주었다.

Analysis of PVDF Coating Properties with Addition of Hydrophobically Modified Fumed Silica

  • In this study, hydrophobically modified fumed silica was added to the PVDF coating to improve corrosion protection performance. Two types of silane modifiers, trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS) and hexamethyldisilazane (HMDZ), were used for hydrophobic modification of the fumed silica. The composition of modified fumed silica was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The dispersion of modified fumed silica in the PVDF coating was observed by the transmission electron microscopy, and the hydrophobicity of PVDF coating was analyzed by the water contact angle. Surface properties were examined by the field emission scanning electron microscopy and scanning probe microscopy. Potentiodynamic polarization was conducted to confirm corrosion protection performance of PVDF coating in terms of hydrophobically-modified fumed silica contents. As a result, the average surface roughness and the water contact angle of the PVDF coating increased with modifier contents. The results of the potentiodynamic polarization test showed an increase of the Ecorr values with increase of the hydrophobicity of PVDF coating. Thus, it clearly indicates that the corrosion protection performance of PVDF coating improved with the addition of the hydrophobic-modified fumed silica that prevents the penetration of moisture into the PVDF coating.

실리콘 고무인상재의 물성에 미치는 충전제의 영향 (Effect of Filler on the Physical Properties of Silicone Rubber Impression Material)

  • 침전실리카와 친수성 및 소수성 흄실리카를 사용하여 첨가량에 따른 실리콘 고무인상재의 젖음성과 기계적 물성 향상 연구를 수행하였다. 고무인상재의 경화시간에는 흄실리카 종류보다는 입자크기가 영향을 미쳤으며, 입자크기가 가장 작은 A300을 사용할 경우 약 9분 정도의 경화시간 지연을 초래하였다. 소수성 흄실리카인 R972를 대체 사용할 경우 고무인상재의 젖음성 특성이 가장 우수하였다. 침전실리카와 A300 흄실리카를 85:15로 혼합하여 사용할 경우 인열강도가 약 1.5N/mm 정도 증가하지만 경화시간의 과도한 지연과 더불어 점도가 상승하기 때문에, 흐름성 및 기계적물성 측면에서 침전실리카와 흄실리가(A300)를 90:10으로 혼합하여 사용하는 것이 최적이었다.

  • The effect of fumed silica loading on the thermal stability and mechanical properties of fluorosilicone (FVMQ) rubber was investigated. The distribution of fumed silica inside FVMQ was characterized using scanning electron microscopy, and the thermal stability of composites was evaluated using thermogravimetric analysis and by the changes in mechanical performance during thermo-oxidative aging. The function mechanism of fumed silica was studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results show that with increasing silica content, the crosslink density of composites, the modulus at 100%, and tensile strength also increased, whereas the elongation at break decreased. Furthermore, increasing the silica content of composites increased the initial decomposition temperature (Td) and residual weight of the composite after exposure to nitrogen. In addition, the thermal oxidative aging experiment demonstrated improved aging resistance of the FVMQ composites, including lower change in tensile strength, elongation at break, and modulus at 100%.

흄드실리카로부터 제조된 실리카졸의 분산인자 상관성 연구 (Correlation Research of Dispersion Factors on the Silica Sol Prepared from Fumed Silica)

  • To study the dispersion factors of silica sol prepared from fumed silica powder, we prepared silica sol under an aqueous system using a batch type bead mill. The dispersion properties of silica sol have a close relationship to dispersion factors such as pH, milling time and speed, the size and amount of zirconia beads, the solid content of fumed silica, and the shape and diameter of the milling impellers. Especially, the silica particles in silica sol were found to show dispersion stability on a pH value above 7, due to the electrostatic repulsion between the particles having a high zeta potential value. The shape and diameter of the impellers installed in the bead mill for the dispersion of fumed silica was very important in reducing the particle size of the aggregated silica. The median particle size ($D_{50}$) of silica sol obtained after milling was also optimized according to the variation of the size and amount of the zirconia beads that were used as the grinding medium, and according to the solid content of fumed silica. The dispersion properties of silica sol were investigated using zeta potential, turbiscan, particle size analyzer, and transmission electron microscopy.

  • The quartz glasses were prepared by sintering of fumed silica powders and the effect of OH concentration on their surface on sintering was studied. Through the firing process, the fumed silica was crystallized from 1180 to $1260^{\circ}C$ region. The amount of hydroxyl group decreased with increase in calcination temperature and consequently the crystallization was prevented. A transparent quartz glass was obtained from fumed silica, previously calcined at $1000^{\circ}C$, by the sintering at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 1 h.

  • 나노실리카볼 입자를 합성하고 표면에 비닐기를 부여하는 합성 연구를 통해 다양한 크기로 조절이 된 유-무기하이브리드 입자인 비닐-나노실리카볼이 합성되었다. 다양한 크기의 비닐-나노실리카볼 입자를 상업적으로 적용되고 있는 아크릴-멜라민 클리어코트에 후첨시키고 경화시켰을 때, 클리어코트의 광택도 증가 및 유지 특성에 대해 연구하였다. 실리카볼 입자가 250 nm 정도인 경우 Matting effect에 의한 광택도 감소가 관측되었으나 20~30 nm로 작아지면 광택도 유지 효과가 약 7%까지 증가하였다. 나노실리카볼 대신 상업용 친수 실리카 Aerosil 200 (Hydrophilic fumed silica, 평균입도 12 nm, Degussa)을 사용하여 비닐- fumed 실리카 화합물을 합성하여 클리어코트에 적용하면 광택도 유지 효과가 약 2% 정도만 증가하였다.

Preparation and Properties of in situ Polymerized Poly(ethylene terephthalate)/Fumed Silica Nanocomposites

  • We have prepared poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) nanocomposites filled with two different types of fumed silicas, hydrophilic (FS) and hydrophobic (MFS) silicas of 7-nm diameter, by in situ polymerization. We then investigated the morphological changes, rheological properties, crystallization behavior, and mechanical properties of the PET nanocomposites. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images indicate that the dispersibility of the fumed silica was improved effectively by in situ polymerization; in particular, MFS had better dispersibility than FS on the non-polar PET polymer. The crystallization behavior of the nanocomposites revealed a peculiar tendency: all the fillers acted as retarding agents for the crystallization of the PET nanocomposites. The incorporation of fumed silicas increased the intrinsic viscosities (IV) of the PET matrix, and the strong particleparticle interactions of the filler led to an increased melt viscosity. Additionally, the mechanical properties, toughness, and modules of the nano-composites all increased, even at low filler content.

  • The quartz glasses were prepared by fumed silica powders sintering method at $1210^{\circ}C$, $1230^{\circ}C$, $1250^{\circ}C$ in air and the effect of sintering temperature on their properties were investigated. The X-ray diffraction pattern, the OH concentration, the light transmittance, the apparent porosity and the density were analyzed. The transparent quartz glass were obtained above $1230^{\circ}C$. The OH-group and macroscopic pores were removed above $1230^{\circ}C$ and highest density and light transmittance were obtained at $1250^{\circ}C$.

Dependence of Nanotopography Impact on Fumed Silica and Ceria Slurry Added with Surfactant for Shallow Trench Isolation Chemical Mechanical Polishing

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference of the wafer nanotopography impact on the oxide-film thickness variation between the STI CMP using ceria slurry and STI CMP using fumed silica slurry. The nanotopography impact on the oxide-film thickness variation after STI CMP using ceria slurry is 2.8 times higher than that after STI CMP using fumed silica slurry. It is attributed that the STI CMP using ceria slurry follows non-Prestonian polishing behavior while that using fumed silica slurry follows Prestonian polishing behavior.
