Recent research has shown that elementary school students can experience epistemic affect -emotions and feelings experienced within epistemic practices, such as the enjoyment of having a wonderful idea or uncomfortable feeling of at a cognitive dissonance- during modeling process. This study explores how an introverted elementary student could participate in the modeling process by constructing an epistemic affect. Based on the theory of constructed emotion, we analyzed one elementary student's constructed epistemic affect using data resources such as emotion diaries, video recordings, and post interviews. We selected one introverted student (a fifth grader), showing peripheral and full participation during modeling. Specifically, we explored which emotions were constructed when she participated in modeling peripherally -and which epistemic affect was constructed when she participated fully- during the construction, evaluation, and revision processes. The research results showed, first, that the introverted elementary student came to participate in the model construction process by constructing the epistemic affect called aha. Second, the results showed that she came to participate in the model revision process by constructing the epistemic affect called feeling that the reasoning was wrong when confronting the rebuttals of the other student. Finally, she came to participate in the model evaluation process by constructing the epistemic affect called dislike of another student's idea. Through our exploration of the constructed epistemic affect of the introverted elementary student, we deduced that it is important to help each student to construct an epistemic affect that facilitates his or her participation in modeling. Also, we discussed that it is important to understand the impact of the emotional load that can occur for each student, depending on the constructed past, present, and future emotions.

This work proposes a 10b 100MS/s DAC based on a segmented local matching technique primarily for small chip area. The proposed DAC employing a segmented current-steering structure shows the required high linearity even with the small number of devices and demonstrates a fast settling behavior at resistive loads. The proposed segmented local matching technique reduces the number of current cells to be matched and the size of MOS transistors while a double-cascode topology of current cells achieves a high output impedance even with minimum sized devices. The prototype DAC implemented in a 0.13um CMOS technology occupies a die area of $0.13mm^2$ and drives a $50{\Omega}$ load resistor with a full-scale single output voltage of $1.0V_{p-p}$ at a 3.3V power supply. The measured DNL and INL are within 0.73LSB and 0.76LSB, respectively. The maximum measured SFDR is 58.6dB at a 100MS/s conversion rate.

The purpose of this study was to develop an efficient process in the design and construction of a 1:5 scale 10-story R.C. apartment building model for an earthquake simulation test. The reduction ratio of the specimen was determined by the size ($5m{\times}5m$) and pay load (600kN) of the available shaking table and the availability of model reinforcements. For efficiency and quality control of the reinforcement work, prefabrication was used. Construction was conducted in two steps, the wall in one step, and another step for the slab, because it was impossible to remove the formwork of a wall if the walls and slabs in a story were constructed in one step. The slip form construction method was used repetitively for walls. The formwork of a wall was made with veneer and acryl plate on each side, so it was possible to check the quality of the concrete placing. To construct this model, it took roughly six months with five full-time research assistants, for a total of 602 man days of labor in construction.
For the purpose of maintenance and prevention of earth fill dams against damage from natural hazards, automatic monitoring through various measuring instruments and resistivity survey has been carried out. Reservoirs and embankments have the structural vulnerability on the agricultural usages since most of them were built more than thirty years ago. The main aim to use monitoring method is to verify the safety and integrity of the dam. Resistivity survey can detect potential weaknesses, such as defective zones, anomalous seepages or internal erosion processes. Permanent resistivity monitoring systems were installed at a reservoir, which daily measurements have been taken every 6 hour. Using monitoring data for one year, anomalous seepage and structural defects were clarified for dam safety. Annual water level fluctuations are around 10 m. During their operation, reservoir dams are subject to a never-ending hydraulic load from the reservoir, which over the years may cause changes in the properties of the inner parts of the dam construction. Detailed analysis of the monitoring results was performed and showed that resistivities at most locations have been very stable over the full monitoring period excluding the effects of water fluctuation and seasons. To investigate the detectability of weak zone using the DC resistivity monitoring, numerical modeling with a simplified model for the drainage at a reservoir dam was also performed. The results showed that the seepage zone near drainage in a reservoir dam could be detected by resistivity response change.
A study of anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) was undertaken on Cretaceous granitic, volcanic and sedimentary rocks in the eastern region of the Yangsan fault, southeast Korea. A total of 542 independently oriented core samples collected form 77 sites were studied. The main magnetic mineral in granitic rocks is magnetite according to the magnitude of bulk susceptibility, high-temperature susceptibility variation and isothermal remanent magnetization. Both of magnetic lineation and foliation with NE-SW trends are revealed in the granitic rocks, while volcanic rocks show scattered directions and sedimentary rocks show only load foliation parallel to the bedding planes. The following evidences read to the conclusion that both magnetic fabrics in the granitic rocks have been obtained by a tectonic stress before full solidification of the magma: (i) A fully hardened granitic rocks would get hardly any fabric, (ii) Difference of the magnetic fabric trends with those of the geological structures in the granitic rocks themselves formed by brittle deformation after solidification (e.g. patterns of small-faults and joints), (iii) Kinking of biotite and undulose extinction in quartz observed under the polarizing microscope, (iv) Discordance of magnetic fabrics in the granitic rocks with those in the surrounding rocks. The NE-SW trend of the magnetic foliations suggests a NW-SE compressive stress of nearly contemporaneous with the emplacement of the granitic rocks. The compression should have caused a sinistral strike-slip movement of the Yangsan Fault considering the trend of the latter. As the age of the granitic rocks in the study area is reported to be around $60\sim70$ Ma, it is concluded that the Yangsan fault did the sinistral strike-slip movement during this time (L. Cretaceous Maastrichtian - Cenozoic Paleocene).
The problem of wheel tread defects has become a major challenge for the health management of high-speed rail as a wheel defect with small radius deviation may suffice to give rise to severe damage on both the train bogie components and the track structure when a train runs at high speeds. It is thus highly desirable to detect the defects soon after their occurrences and then conduct wheel turning for the defective wheelsets. Online wheel condition monitoring using wheel impact load detector (WILD) can be an effective solution, since it can assess the wheel condition and detect potential defects during train passage. This study aims to develop an FBG-based track-side wheel condition monitoring method for the detection of wheel tread defects. The track-side sensing system uses two FBG strain gauge arrays mounted on the rail foot, measuring the dynamic strains of the paired rails excited by passing wheelsets. Each FBG array has a length of about 3 m, slightly longer than the wheel circumference to ensure a full coverage for the detection of any potential defect on the tread. A defect detection algorithm is developed for using the online-monitored rail responses to identify the potential wheel tread defects. This algorithm consists of three steps: 1) strain data pre-processing by using a data smoothing technique to remove the trends; 2) diagnosis of novel responses by outlier analysis for the normalized data; and 3) local defect identification by a refined analysis on the novel responses extracted in Step 2. To verify the proposed method, a field test was conducted using a test train incorporating defective wheels. The train ran at different speeds on an instrumented track with the purpose of wheel condition monitoring. By using the proposed method to process the monitoring data, all the defects were identified and the results agreed well with those from the static inspection of the wheelsets in the depot. A comparison is also drawn for the detection accuracy under different running speeds of the test train, and the results show that the proposed method can achieve a satisfactory accuracy in wheel defect detection when the train runs at a speed higher than 30 kph. Some minor defects with a depth of 0.05 mm~0.06 mm are also successfully detected.
Steel-concrete composite structures have been extensively used in building, bridges, and other civil engineering infrastructure. Shear stud connectors between steel and concrete are essential in composite members to guarantee the effectiveness of their behavior in terms of strength and deformability. This study focuses on investigating the shear stiffness of headed studs embedded in several types of concrete with wide range of compressive strength, and their effects on the elastic behavior of steel-concrete composite girders were evaluated. Firstly, totally 206 monotonic push-out tests from the literature were reviewed to investigate the shear stiffness of headed studs embedded in various types of concrete (NC, HPC, UHPC etc.). Shear stiffness of studs is defined as the secant stiffness of the load-slip curve at 0.5Vu, and a formulation for predicting defined shear stiffness in elastic state was proposed, indicating that the stud diameter and the elastic modulus of steel and concrete are the main factors. And the shear stiffness predicted by the new formula agree well with test results for studs with a diameter ranging from 10 to 30 mm in the concrete with compressive strength ranging from 22.0 to 200.0MPa. Then, the effects of shear stiffness on the elastic behaviors of composite girders with different sizes and under different loading conditions were analyzed, the equations for calculating the stress and deformation of simply supported composite girders considering the influence of connection's shear stiffness were derived under different loading conditions using classical linear partial-interaction theory. As the increasing of shear stiffness, the stress and deflection at the most unfavorable section under partial connected condition tend to be those under full connected condition, but the approaching speed decreases gradually. Finally, the connector's shear stiffness was recommended for fully connection in composite girders with different dimensions under different loading conditions. The findings from present study may provide a reference for the prediction of shear stiffness for headed studs and the elastic design of steel-concrete composite girder.

This paper demonstrates the design and development of asset management systems suitable for the universities full of very various kind of assets. Universities consists of many departments, which have a multiplicity of many experimental. It is very difficult to record and manage assets with hands. In addition, the equipments are moving freely from one lab to another inside the school, which means it is tough to find the location of the assets and so some stuffs that are given lack attention are likely to disappear. So, these things occurring frequently in the university asset management environment should be considered in the design and embodiment of the asset management system. In the proposed system, location recognition of the assets is realized based on a route tracking method, so it is possible to detect the loss of the high priced assets and entrance, export, and lending of them are controlled efficiently. The system is likely to reduce the load of a manager responsible for asset management, because configured to decrease interventions of the manager in overall asset management process. Especially, the proposed system and implementation method will be suitable for small and medium-scale asset management, path tracking, history management.
An input and output buffering ATM switch conventionally operates in either Queueloss mode or Backpressure mode. Recently, a new mode, which is called Hybrid mode, was proposed to overcome the drawbacks of Queueloss mode and Backpressure mode. In Hybrid mode, when both the destined output buffer and the originfted input buffer are full, a cell is dropped. This thesis analyzes the cell loss rate and the cell delay of Queueloss, Backpressure and Hybrid modes in a switch adopting output-port expansion scheme under uniform traffic. Output-port expansion scheme allows only one cell from an input buffer to be switched during one time slot. If several cells switch to a same destined output port, the number of maximum transfer cells is restricted to K (Output-port expansion ratio). The simulation results show that if an offered load is less than 0.9, Hybrid mode has lower cell loss rate than the other modes; otherwise, Queueloss mode illustrates the lowest cell loss rate, which is a different result from previous researches. However, the difference between Hybrid and Queueloss modes is comparably small. As expected, the average cell delay in Backpressure mode is lower than those of Queueloss mode and Hybrid mode, since the cell delay due to the retransmission of higher number of dropped cells in Backpressure mode is not considered.
The energy consumption efficiency in a variety of operational test mode was considered for domestic gas boiler below 70 kW. The energy efficiency test carried out in the experimental conditions similar to the actual operation status was analyzed and compared with the current Korean efficiency test method. Four types of test modes for each boiler(Non-condensing and condensing boiler) were carried out in the condition of laboratory mode(full load, steady state) and actual operating mode. Futhermore divided into two operational status for each of these, it was applied by maximum gas consumption and consumer sales conditions. Test equipment has the function referred to gas boiler standards, such as KS or European standard EN. The equipment should be continuously measured and record the measuring factors which are the flow volume of gas and water, laboratory temperature, water flow volume for heating, return water volume after heating and quantity of the exhaust gases(CO, NO, $NO_2$). The experimental results were found that non-condensing boiler efficiency of laboratory mode is about 10% higher than that of actual mode. In case of condensing boiler, the efficiency of laboratory condition is about 20% higher than that of the actual using conditions. I suggest that the government will gradually take the efficiency test method considering the actual conditions.
