A Study on Characteristics of Knocking in Gasoline Engine through ECU Control (ECU 제어를 통한 가솔린 엔진의 노킹 특성에 관한 연구)

  • A burning principle in gasoline engine is the one of being burned, by which a mixer in air and gasoline enters a combustion chamber and causes a spark in the proper timing. This is formed, by which ECU controls the fuel-injection volume and the fuel-injection timing, and determines the performance of engine. The purpose of this study is to test the characteristics on knocking in gasoline engine with the knocking-sensor equipment and to research into the characteristics in knocking while directly controling the optimal igniting timing and the fuel-injection timing through engine ECU. Given controlling ECU by grasping the characteristics in knocking, which becomes the most problem in the engine tuning market, the tuning in a true sense will be formed in gasoline engine.

  • Dimethyl ether (DME) has a high cetane number that is suitable for diesel fuel. DME does not contain sulfur or nitrogen, and is an oxygenated fuel so it produces no particulate matter when combusted and is environmentally friendly. DME fuel for diesel engines show excellent material properties such as a lower volumetric heating value, lower boiling point, lower lubricity, and stronger solvent effect than light oil. This study experimentally examined a lubricity improver (LI) for dimethyl ether. A diesel LI based on biodiesel and fatty acid methyl ester was tested among DME LI candidates. The long-term storage stability and physical properties of the optimum LI for DME were determined.

  • In this study, the graphic simulation system of multi joint manipulator is developed to analyze and optimize the remote handling processes for the spent fuel assembly. This system consists of a 3-D graphical modeling system, a device assembling system, and a motion simulation system. To analyze and optimize the processes involved in multi-joint manipulator operation such as NFBC transportation process and bottom nozzle removal process, the virtual work place is implemented using a computer graphic technology. This virtual workcell is exactly same as that of the real environment. This graphic simulation system of the multi-joint manipulator can be effectively used for designing the main processes and maintenance processes of the spent fuel management.

  • A dynamic model of proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) system is designed to understand the performance of the PEMFC in residential power generator(RPG) over various balance of plant(BOP) options. In particular, since the performance of PEMFC system should be optimized for given operating ranges, it is necessary to design suitable BDP components which can support the operating ranges. The objective of this study is to develop a dynamic system model for the study of PEMFC performance over various BOP options. Therefore, a dynamic model is composed of a PEMFC stack model, a water management system model, a thermal management system model and a fuel/air supply model and the model is integrated under SIMULINK(R)environment. Basic simulation results will be presented.

  • The remote handling and maintenance devices in the nuclear hot ceil should be checked prior to the hot operation in view of reliability and operability. In this study, the digital mock-up is implemented to analyze and define the process equipment maintenance processes instead of real mock-up, which is very expensive and time consuming. To do this, the parts of equipment and maintenance devices are modeled in 3-D graphics, assembled, and kinematics is assigned. Also, the virtual workcell of the spent fuel management process is implemented in the graphical environment which is the same as the real environment. This simulator has the several functions for verification such as analyses for the manipulator's working area, the collision detection, the path planning and graphic simulation of the processes etc. This graphic simulator of the maintenance devices can be effectively used in designing of the maintenance processes for the hot cell equipment and enhance the reliability of the spent fuel management.

  • Gas turbines generating power operate in high temperature condition and use natural gas as fuel. For that reason, there are many cases where damage is done to the hot gas parts caused by the high temperature and many accidents occur like gas explosions, then various efforts are needed to maintain the hot gas parts and prevent accidents. It is difficult to find the root causes of damage to the hot gas parts from the gas explosion caused by gas leakage through rotor cooling air line from fuel gas heat exchanger during the shut down. To prevent gas turbine from damage, removal of gas leakage inside of gas turbine is required by purging the turbine before firing, improving the fuel gas heating system and installing alarm systems for detecting gas leakage from stop valve to turbine while the gas turbine has shut down.

  • A development and application of machine vision system is introduced, which automatically recognizes the serial number of nuclear fuel tube. For the recognition, a indirect back light illuminating system is designed and a pattern matching algorithm based on neural network is applied. The various operation and management functions are also developed, on a PC under windows OS, for easy operation and data management, respectively. By the successful application of the vision system the productivity of the nuclear fuel tube recognition process is highly improved.

  • Data mining is the process of finding and analyzing data from a big database and summarizing it into useful information for a decision-making. A variety of data mining techniques have been being used for wide range of industries. One application of those is especially so for gathering meaningful information from process data in manufacturing factories for quality improvement. The purpose of this paper is to provide a methodology to improve manufacturing quality of fuel tanks which are auto-parts. The methodology is to analyse influential attributes and establish a model for optimal manufacturing condition of fuel tanks to improve the quality using decision tree, association rule, and feature selection.

  • The performandce of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell depends on the effective management of heat and product water by the electrochemical reaction. This study is designed to investigate the parametric change of heat management along the channel of polymer electrolyte membrane. The model was developed by an aspen custom modeler that it can solve differential equation with distretization model. The model can simulate water transport through the membrane electrolyte that is coupled with heat generation. In order to verify the model, it is compared with the experimental data. The water transport behavior is then evaluated with the simulation model.
